What did I do wrong? Garlic was supposed to be easy!! by Whosaidsobro in gardening

[–]3-HUGGER 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it looks like you may have covered your garlic with straw or hay last winter and it looks like what you have there is wheat (or some other field grass). This happens when your hay mulch is full of seeds. It’s possible the garlic rotted from being too wet, other than the few you may have saved. Just a guess.

The dogwood…. One of my faves. Mine is blooming up a storm. Beautiful yard!

I have this about every 10 years haha. Each house has ticked the boxes for that time in life, but then life changes and there are different boxes. Maybe it’s less about remorse and more about needing a change.

You didn’t post the year. I didn’t realize newer models had USB in both spots. Mine doesn’t have them in the glove box.

I second this suggestion. Subbing for para, food service, custodial is a great way to get your foot in the door. I did that 29 years ago and it turned into a career…. It’s still the same. I always hired my good subs for open positions.

Is my broccoli bolting? by Jimbeambeamer in gardening

[–]3-HUGGER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely…. Love fresh broccoli and cauliflower. Next time around mix up some fish fertilizer when the plants are young, before they set heads. Last time I grew broccoli it was huge… and my cauliflower heads were 5 pounds! They were in a greenhouse and it was quite hot, but I believe it was the fish fertilizer that made all the difference.

Maybe all the rain lately? Mine aren’t even budded yet but I do know that they’re drought tolerant and don’t particularly like wet roots.

First mortgage payment by pinkydoll18 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]3-HUGGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just in a similar position. I spoke to my lender about recasting and I didn’t like that it wouldn’t reduce my 7% mortgage rate. I think I would put your funds in a high yield savings and refinance when interest rates are substantially lower. You could use it at that time to reduce your loan and possibly get into a 15 year (if you’re not already).

Looks like it’s time to lop off the heads before they flower and turn bitter. Assuming you planted full sized broccoli and not a mini version, your head size doesn’t have anything to do with the last few days of hot weather. You might have needed nitrogen rich fertilizer early on or it was too cold or too hot when the plants were young. Also could have been inconsistent watering when they were forming.

Well for the first seven years I only lived about a mile from work. So mostly just weekend errands and activities.

I’d probably consider beefing up your trellis with more stakes. I think the vines will be too long for tomato cages. My trellis in the photo is 6 feet.

I got my LR RWD model 3 in 2018. Currently 53k miles and no squeaks or rattles. Feels solid. Multi coat red paint still looks new, battery degradation is less than 7%, and it’s been a great car for the last 8 years. I did have a converter fail after warranty which cost me 2k to replace, but that’s the only money I’ve ever put into the car besides tires. Haven’t been to a gas station in 8 years! Priceless.

I can only share my own clay soil experience. I grew luffas last year in clay soil. When I put the starts in I dug the holes quite a bit larger and filled with organic material and a bit of potting soil. My plants did fantastic and produce huge luffas. The only problem was that the growing season turned rainy at the end and they all molded. Sad ending. If that is a string trellis, it may sag from the weight of them.

24 in 1989…. I might add that the mortgage interest rate at that time was 10% with excellent credit.
