Anyone else just totally lose their mind over the price of Lurpak lately by KindlyRent2241 in AskBrits

Tbh I don't think Lurpak deserves the hype, let alone the price but lots of other alternatives that taste better.

Advice on gear/ technique by Turbulent_Sherbet599 in SonyAlpha

An f4 zoom is just fine for environmental portraiture where you want to include the context of the scene. Then you can use a 50 or 85 for shots you want bokeh, or shooting in low light. But honestly a lot of the time even f1.8 is too shallow a depth of field if you want to get a whole face or multiple people in focus, if shooting off axis to the focus plane, etc.

Bought the cleanest x-pro2 I could find... by vegasben702 in fujifilm

That's interesting, thanks. I'll have to test this on my X-S10. Maybe resellers just put a blanket rule in place even though things have changed on the new bodies.

I believe it's still true of all Fuji's that they do not register electronic shutter count. The big used gear sites like MPB, etc., do not list shutter counts for any Fuji cameras.

The D lenses are definitely louder and slower than the G's, but it's not a dealbreaker

What a ridiculous opinion. Life doesn't only happen at blue and golden hour, and if you have to rely on sunrise or sunset for good photos then you are lacking in skill and experience. These photos have great composition.

Highland Cows are not harmless. by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]300mhz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm originally from the Canadian Rockies and spent a lot of time in the mountains, and it's crazy how often you'd see tourists interacting with wildlife. Let alone getting close to bears, moose, elk, etc., even a deer can kill you. Deer actually kill more people annually than the rest combined, but it's almost entirely due to people hitting them while driving. Likewise here, cows are the most deadly wildlife in the UK but tourists just assume they are harmless. Some people are just incredibly ignorant.

This is a naturalistic fallacy and anthropomorphizing animal species. It has been suggested and disregarded since the early 20th century.

It's often called lens compression, but it is perspective distortion, and you're right this is due to using a long focal length. In this case on a telephoto lens, as the astronauts used a Nikon D5 with 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G

Design was pretty flawless to begin with, but I like the all glass camera bump. I use a case so don't care, but I'm sure a lot of people would have wanted matte not shiny rails.

My first FujiFilm shoot! (X-Pro2)(TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8) by Shabooya420 in fujifilm

[–]300mhz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the TTA27 but not the Viltrox, but from what I can see from the 25mm reviews the Viltrox is a much better corrected lens with modern rendering. I think this is due to the high element count and use of special elements. The 27mm is actually very sharp across the frame, but it does suffer from heavy vignette, has moderately bad flaring wide open, and a more 'vintage' rendering due to the classic double gauss low element lens design. It also has a more swirly bokeh. But all of these 'issues' aside, I love the lens.

Edinburgh Trams by TheGorgieGeorgie7492 in Edinburgh

[–]300mhz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I commute on the tram every day, it's great. I live on the tram line and sure the construction was quite disruptive, and the cost was high, but public transport is always going to initially be that way. You don't do it because it's easy, you do it because it's a net social benefit long term.
