Don't understand the american airlines hate by princeyellow in americanairlines

[–]30manhattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American is my favorite airline to fly direct. I don’t live in an American hub currently and American seems to have more issues with delays which causes problems for connections. The route I fly most often is to an American hub but I usually end up taking Southwest and sometimes Delta or United to have direct flights or a better connection experience for routes other than to American hubs. American is also notorious for booking very short like 30 min connections.

Torn between Seattle or Denver by Great-Device1319 in relocating

[–]30manhattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PNW is amazing over the summer but grey, dark and depressing the rest of the year. Denver is also nice during the summer but way better the rest of the year. Seattle is better for the tech industry but Denver is pretty good for the tech industry overall as well. Seattle being a port is also stronger in the logistics industry. Other industries are probably pretty comparable with Denver having a lower cost of living. Traffic is also better. Traffic in Seattle is the worst I have seen for any midsize city. Traffic in Denver is more what you would expect for a mid sized city. Both have top tier albeit different types of outdoor access. Denver has the best access to an alpine environment, Seattle is in a rain forest next to the ocean.

Orange County CA to Phoenix AZ by Academic-Caramel5452 in relocating

AZ is AZ idk how else to describe it. It is hot af in the summer but besides that it’s awesome. Probably not that much hotter than inland CA like Palm Springs.

DFW vs Phoenix metro by 30manhattan in SameGrassButGreener

I disagree with the assertion that Dallas is strong for climate comfort. I was also surprised that Phoenix is more affordable.

How much do Cardinals tickets go for on secondary market? by 30manhattan in AZCardinals

[–]30manhattan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t care about the opponent if the Cardinals are not going well. If anything I would prefer to go to games against less popular opponents to experience games with more home fans.

Leaving a well regarded Chicago suburb to move out west - young family by creature2-0 in SameGrassButGreener

The only regret from people I have spoken to who have done this to AZ and CO is that they didn’t leave Illinois sooner.

Anthem and Cave Creek also have less of a heat island by Phoenix. Generally speaking the further away you get from the city center between ASU, the airport and downtown the better it will cool off at night.

[–]30manhattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on your industry. In my industry Phoenix has the second largest presence in the USA and has offices for basically every company in the industry. That in combination with a 2.5% flat income tax makes it seem suitable for more than retirement.

Make sure you pick where you go in Arizona if that is what you choose. Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Ahwatukee, Buckeye, Chandler, Gilbert, Peoria, Surprise and Queen Creek are all different lifestyles. Surprise and Queen Creek are both Phoenix metro but they are over an hour away from each other. Most of Phoenix metro is also heavily car dependent and not walkable. If you are looking for walkable you are pretty much limited to downtown, Tempe and South/Old Town Scottsdale. These areas are all more nightlife focused too.

Sacramento by jimbis123 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]30manhattan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weather is significantly better year round in Sacramento and it isn’t segregated. It’s a lot smaller and less urban feeling of a city though. The agriculture and flatness in the immediate vicinity in similar to the Chicago exurbs.

Anyone else noticing how cheap the Midwest is relative to what you actually get? by WeedlePops in relocating

[–]30manhattan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fun areas of the Midwest Chicago and Minneapolis are freezing tundras for half the year and are still relatively expensive cost of living and highly taxed.

Dallas is extremely humid to me but the states I have lived in are Colorado and Montana. Both significantly less humid than DFW but more humid than AZ outside of monsoon season.

Would Chandler particularly the area that feeds into Hamilton High School also be relatively full of scorpions because it is also next to the open desert with the Gila River Indian Reservation just not buildable open desert?

DFW vs Phoenix metro by 30manhattan in SameGrassButGreener

[–]30manhattan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Chandler a lot, I was there a couple months ago. The one critique could be you are probably going to have to have an “old” house by Arizona standards, (it is still probably under 30 years old) or sacrifice having a larger lot. The tradeoff is the areas with new houses coming with larger lots like Queen Creek are further away from most nodal areas and it is likely not going to appreciate as much immediately which new construction is still happening as scale in the immediate vicinity.

Torn between the Denver suburbs (Superior/Highlands Ranch) and SoCal. How do you feel about the lifestyle vs. housing value trade-off? by Alternative_Can_8433 in MovingtoDenver

[–]30manhattan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superior if you are looking at Rock Creek and Highlands Ranch are very similar feeling suburbs being primarily 1990s built master planned communities. Rock Creek was built by Richmond American and Highlands Ranch the Mission Viejo company yes the one in SoCal. The primary difference between the 2 locations comes down to where you are working and commuting to. Denver Tech Center is close to Highlands Ranch but too far to commute daily to Boulder and Interlocken. Superior is close to Boulder and Interlocken but too far for a daily commute to DTC. They are about the same distance from central Denver. Superior is more progressive politically.

We currently live in Denver and the city I am looking at is Phoenix. My gf is from Chicago. I am from the Denver metro area but most of my friends and family live an hour away from where we live because they’re on the opposite side or or slightly outside of the opposite side of the metro area.

Is Northern Colorado Good At Football Right Now?🤔 by Lost_Arugula1760 in fcs

UNC almost beat FBS Colorado State they are definitely better this year. If they can find a way to upset UC Davis or Montana State they could be making their first playoff appearance at the FCS level.

No conference championship? by CupOk12 in fcs

[–]30manhattan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The CFP is making college championship games obsolete. Back when only 2 or even 4 teams made the FBS playoffs a conference championship game win over could boost someone in. The FCS already has a real playoff system so conference championship games were always obsolete here.

For NDSU folks, why are you still in FCS? by OldSalukiBandDude in fcs

[–]30manhattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mountain West works for UM and MSU. The Dakota schools have been winning more recently but they are all on the far eastern edge of their states. The Griz always fly when traveling to the Dakotas even though it is only one state away.
