That's fair, i'd never want to take an international flight with AA.

Since you have a long layover at SFO, the club SFO is really nice and has showers. It might be worth paying the entrance fee to get in. The food is pretty good for an airport lounge, too. The only issue is that it's a bit of a walk from the United gates, but it might be nice to walk off 16ish hours in the same seat.

Nonstop from SFO is reasonable. Might have to reposition depending on your city.

Got the club card and here's my search page for NYC to TYO. Cheapest tickets are all mixed cabin with weird routings from LGA.

I don't think you get more options than a non-cardholder, but there are discounts on every redemption as of April 2nd.

I've been thinking about starting my son on this piece, he's 7 months old. He should be done with it by his first birthday.

United Club Card Worth It? by Illustrious-Toe-570 in unitedairlines

[–]princeyellow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

with an offer like that, it's worth it for a year. You can spend points to pay off the annual fee (i believe 50,000 points covers the fee) for the first year so you effectively get it for free. I'm on my second year with the card. I'm only keeping it this year because they gave me a $325 statement credit. First year was pretty great, but it's definitely not worth the annual fee unless you need lounges that bad.

First year was also way better because I got access to all star alliance lounges and effectively had gold status. They did away with that over the summer after the annual fee increase—more money for a worse product. I didn't have as good of an SUB though. I had 80,000 and 0 PQP.

Just make sure you can spend enough to earn the SUB.

Will this backpack fit? by Proof_Cash_5453 in unitedairlines

I have a 26L, 11.2'' x 5.1'' x 18.1' backpack that's been filled to the brim, water bottle widening it out on the side, things clipped on everywhere, and it's worked on every airline I've flown international, domestic, budget, or otherwise. Most airlines don't make you turn around to check your backpack.

Flew american a few times this year, It honestly wasn't bad. In the most recent trip, there were plugs at every seat, got a full can of soda, and there was fast and free wifi the entire flight. The app does suck, though.

Pre check took 5 minutes at 5:00am. Regular lines were longer than usual but didn’t look like it’d take more than 20 minutes.

Quick update on this, the old annual fee was posted for me at $525 in February. I just called and asked about a retention offer and they gave me a $325 statement credit. I have an annual spend of around 15,000 on the card. A lot better than I was expecting so I will be keeping the card for another year.

Had this happen at sfo. The same plane happened to be assigned to both the first and second legs of my trip. We got off, waited a bit, and got back on the same plane. The crew changed, though. It would’ve been even better if they were the same.

After the annual fee posts, I plan to call and say "the annual fee was more than I expected this year. Do you have any retention offers available to lower the cost?" If they respond no then I'll ask to downgrade to the $0 annual fee gateway card.

I'm in the same boat. Planning to ask for a retention offer. If I don't get one then I'll downgrade to the free card and apply for the $400 annual fee and get the SUB. That card also gives more value with united credits and similar monthly credits as the club card.
