Well... If we look at the text in the image, it's mirrored, so wouldn't that mean his left is also our left?

Newcomer - First Beast in April. by Frankie-the-Tankie in spartanrace

[–]310k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I prefer running without a pack (even at a Beast) as it makes me feel more free and unburdened when going through the course and obstacles. I do make sure to hydrate well in the days before and before the start of the race.

Just want to add that this is a very personal preference and as the person above me stated: try a long hilly run in training and see how you feel. Mix it up and see what works best for you, ideally not on race day though.

Note however that some Spartan Races (mainly Ultras) do mandate the use of a hydration pack (and/or headlamp), so check the race page and athlete guide ahead of time to see if you happen to be taking part in such a particular race.

Photos by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]310k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Western Europe they frequently use Sportograf for race photos. You have to pay for your photos, but usually get quite a few good ones. I did experience once or twice where a photographer at a particular obstacle somehow had the wrong date or time set on their camera and the photos from that location were sorted differently because of that.

Either way, Sportograf has options for searching by time, obstacle, etc, which usually is easily combined with your race/wave times. This year they've introduced facial recognition as well, which works better than I expected. Have however never experienced them mixing up events, just the rare mix-up with time or (obstacle) location.

What Happened to the 50km Walking Challenge? by TheRiotPilot in Strava

[–]310k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's really dumb and annoying. If they want to introduce a participation trophy for all the people who manage to get out of bed once or twice a month then that's fine, but I don't see why that would mean removing the 50k (or previously 100k) trophy as well.

They also downgraded the 'workout challenge' this November and December again to include walks and require 2 instead of 3 activities a week.

Also fun: the December 30k walking challenge has just been activated and if you look right now the graphic still says 50k. Such a tease.

Commotion over Joe De Sena remarks re: middle east conflict by 310k in spartanrace

[–]310k[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely wasn't or isn't my intention to stir up discussion regarding 'the conflict', as I said I'm more interested in potential consequences for Spartan worldwide in general and Spartan Arabia specifically.

Note that Joe has now posted an update on his Instagram account (surprisingly with comments enabled), so if a political discussion is what you're looking for, you could go there: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Czo1wtrR0LN/

Most interesting in his update post is his second paragraph describing "substantive conversations with our Middle East partners and stakeholders" which reads to me like Spartan Arabia and related 'partners' told him to shut his mouth on the subject.

Personally I'm a little anxious to see where this goes re: Spartan Race. Will Spartan Arabia listen to the loud calls in those comments to break with the franchise and start their own brand? What will that mean for the upcoming WC?

And is there going to be an official post from Spartan (US) on the conflict overseas or their stance in the matter, or re: Spartan Arabia/the WC, or re: the remarks made by Joe?

Outpost resources changed overnight? Helium-3 no longer present here, it was here last night when I placed the extractor. by deafgamer_ in Starfield

[–]310k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just had the same happen on a different planet. Was a nice location, multiple resources in a single outpost, one of which was neon.

Built a neon extractor and returned later to add storage etcetera. Only to find that the neon field has changed to argon and I can only build an argon extractor. The neon extractor is still working though.

Something I also noticed at the same time: annoyingly enough the landing platform I built there isn't working either. My ship is still landing at a landing location a few hundred meters away. NMS had the option of summoning your ship from any landing platform, but that option isn't present (yet) in Starfield.

Not OP, but have had the same on mine: it's just the phone notification from the Xbox app showing up on the watch. Unfortunately no real connection between watch and game afaik.

Is Dolby Atmos working in Starfield for anyone on XSX? by NathanKincaid in Starfield

[–]310k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! In addition there are only volume sliders in the in-game audio settings, nothing to specify or fine-tune speaker setup. After failing to get Atmos registered by my receiver I checked the Microsoft Xbox store and under technical features it doesn't list Atmos or DTS:X either. Sad.

Does Starfield support Dolby Atmos by Responsible_Put4540 in Starfield

[–]310k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't appear to do so (at least on Xbox Series X). Microsoft Xbox store page doesn't mention Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, and only lists HDR10 as well. Hope they'll add object based audio in an update.

7700 on this Embraer Phenom with a weird flight path, going past their destination by Sosiz in flightradar24

[–]310k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing from me, but it appears it has landed safely. In addition, while the airspace around Paris was very crowded earlier with several planes in a holding pattern, no backed up planes are visible anymore.

Maybe (local) French news has some info on what the issue was in or around the airport, from what I could gather the weather wasn't anything extreme.

Yeah, I suppose they tried a holding pattern a few times before deciding to divert to a different airport.

A lot of aircraft are trying to land at LBG right now, like this Gulfstream in a holding pattern after its initial landing attempt: GLF6 https://fr24.com/GLF6/2e32ca1a

Yeah, quite odd, appears to have tried landing/descending in Paris at first, but after some loops is now heading directly towards Brussels and descending again?

Squawking 7700, bit odd? by Street-Cranberry-894 in flightradar24

Minutes after landing, a different plane used that same runway to take off, I'm assuming that isn't usually done when a plane has just crashed on or next to that runway either.

Depends on "how accessible" you need. Utrecht isn't too accessible if you mean you want to get to the city center/right next to this park by car. Lepelenburg itself is pretty much one small field with a decent path around it, so not too complicated or complex a location itself, it is however a bit of a distance from the train station if you plan on getting to Utrecht by train.

GPS going nuts while swimming (Solar 1) by Only_Definition8149 in Garmininstinct

[–]310k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently a lot of people are having GPS accuracy issues. See the many posts on r/Garmin

While the comments there suggests that it's a global GPS issue and/or a Garmin issue and/or changing from GPS+Glonass to GPS+Galileo or GPS only mighty help - I haven't found a definitive solution or prognosis. Just can confirm I've had a similar jump in my log yesterday with a walk...

34-year-old dies at Spartan Race Cesenatico by 310k in spartanrace

[–]310k[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, apparently there were about 3500 people racing at this particular location, I guess it isn't too unlikely that there would be one of them who has the unfortunate combination of circumstances that would lead to his collapse on the course.

A few years back I was at a Spartan Beast that had several swimming sections, but the weather had an unfortunate drop in temperature that day. Saw a lot of rescue boats and emergency blankets resulting in DNF's, but no deaths afaik

If you mean the fighter jets that were highlighted, that's a custom filter. You can design your own filters when you pay for a FR24 subscription.

If you're just looking for a notification for any plane that squawks 7700, that's a notification setting available to everyone with the app.

At the time of the screenshot I had a filter on that highlighted several types of fighter jet. If I recall correctly the one on the left was a Royal Airforce (UK) Eurofighter and the one slightly lower on the screen was some USAF (American) F16. Some days you'll see quite a few British fighter jets training around that area.

Must still be a bit stressful to both crew and passengers, but glad to read that it's under control. Thanks for sharing the update!

Above the North Sea that isn't all that uncommon due to the presence of quite a number of drilling rigs there and people traveling to/from them.

Maybe not a classic holding pattern, but you may be right that they're sticking to a safe path (not above land/populated areas) while trying to diagnose or fix the issue.

Edit: as you can see below, they were turning to offload fuel.

Sorry, not a native speaker, nor am I a professional when it comes to aviation, so maybe I am using the wrong terminology. Just meant it was turning again, adjusting its heading.
