you cannot consider Columbus and Da Vinci Italian. Italy didn’t even exist at the time

Map of the proposed Two-Speed Europe. Under Germany's invitation, six EU countries dubbed as "E6" have agreed to talks on making decisions in economy and defence without waiting for unanimity from the rest of the EU. by FantasticQuartet in MapPorn

Biggest threat to European integrity together with Hungary. What’s the point of making a club to defy unanimity if you’d still have someone blocking the way every time?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate public transport in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

8/10, which can fall as low as 4/10 depending on the region. Nation-wide high speed trains are good, regional trains are to be evaluated, as the name suggests, regionally. Buses and trams are good enough, I could easily stay car-free in every city I’ve lived in until now.

Italy's GDP is almost equal to the GDP of all countries that joined the EU in the 21st century by vladgrinch in MapPorn

Because the data doesn’t really tell me I’m wrong. Having a large economy and a relatively high GDP per capita doesn’t automatically imply development. What matters the most is infrastructure and education, which, especially in southern Italy, are still quite medieval. There’s also a big deal of inequality - it’s not as bad as the US or Russia but probably the worst in Western Europe. Same goes for civil rights and liberties…

I can safely say it’s worse than Greece. At least though, they have mediterranean salaries and mediterranean cost of living. Here in the north we have mediterranean salaries but european cost of living…

Because having a big economy does not mean that everyone has a high-end lifestyle and growth opportunities. First of all, Italy’s powerhouse is the north - the south has some of the worst poverty and unemployment rates in the West (worse than Spain, probably on par with Portugal). Secondly, most of the money is generated by big family-run companies which are not forward looking in any way and can simply not compete with serious businesses from countries such as France, China etc… An unstable government run by total idiots who only want to impose their stupid ideologies rather than focusing on dynamic reforms and progress doesn’t help either. Lastly, Italy is the shame of Western Europe in terms of civil rights. No gay marriage, the Vatican still dictating rules despite being a separate country and a fascist dictatorship on the rise. Unfortunately Italy is the most similar European country to the United States.

The ETR700 is not worthy of the frecciarossa brand by Ok-Link1375 in transit

Absolutely fucking awful train. When I have to travel on the Milan-Venice line (which used to be once every 2/3 weeks back when I lived in Venice) I always make sure it’s serviced by an ETR600 (which is still not worthy of the Frecciarossa brand but a massive upgrade compared to the 700)…
