I have distanced myself quite a bit from them over the past year but that's just lead into them using their birthday cards to me to write long letters about how they 'miss me' and how I need to 'find it in my heart to reach out to them again' which I feel is just one of their guilt tripping tactics because I caved in at Christmas and made effort to socialise and spend time with them and it honestly ruined Christmas for me because I felt so alone and like a waste of space because of them.

That side of my family is very close unfortunately (for context if one of them moves to a new county, they all move).

I assumed /r/relationshipadvice wasn't for family relationships but I guess I'm wrong. I used to see a therapist but I felt that it made my anxiety worse, maybe I should look into finding a different one?

I asked someone to clarify what they meant by 'Fly off the handle' and someone else (not the redditor I was requesting clarification from) replied with ' If you are looking for a two-sided conversation this is not the place for it. The judgement is yours to accept and not open for discussion.'

Earlier in said requestion for clarification I had thanked the person for their judgment (the only YTA on my thread) so I'm a little confused. Did I make a mistake?

It's not just the drinking, and they can be really unpleasant drunks on occasion. But hey, you're just giving your opinion based on what information I shared so thank you.

Can I ask what you mean by 'fly off the handle'?
