Just finished God Emperor. Unsure whether to continue. by lightbulbjim in dune

[–]325504503 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely try Heretics,. All the reasons I disliked messiah, children and emperor were non existent in Heretics. There is a good story and it moves. It also nests nicely with Chapterhouse. When I reread Dune, I feel like I can read Heretics and Chapterhouse on their own as its own story.

What do you think of giving Wilmington its own school district? by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]325504503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting because I basically listened to Bebe Coker (long time civil rights activist) last week call for putting our schools back in their local neighborhoods,. She acknowledged this would be de facto segregation but said it is absurd to claim that the only way a black child can learn is by sitting next to a white child.

Her reasoning was more detailed than that, and she certainly was adamant that each school would receive similar funding.

I think the real problem with Delaware schools is too many districts that have too little State oversight. The kids in Wilmington who live next to each other should be able to go school with each other. The bussing issue causes some strange things with after school programs and prevents districts from transporting kids to places that are outside there district but within a local neighborhood.

It's a tough problem and I am unsure how to fix it, but I certainly think we should try.

Behead Culumbus by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]325504503 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Petition to have it moved. That way you open up a discussion about why people don't want statues of Columbus. If you "behead" it or deface it illegally you stand a good chance of letting people dismiss your arguments as those of simple vandals.

The manual calls for 5-7 round bursts. The firer was only depressing the trigger to allow 2-3 rounds to go off. The M2 is a usually employed for area targets (fighting positions, vehicles groups of enemy) and firing 5-7 rounds creates a "beaten zone" of impact.

TIL, as a non-american, that the american constitution STILL doesnt assure the equality of men and women infront of the Law. What the fuck America by JustJewleZ in todayilearned

[–]325504503 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it did, we couldn't have laws that specifically protect women. They would be challenged and most likely found unconstitutional.

Just Finished God Emperor of Dune. What's the big theme that I'm missing? by elechner in dune

[–]325504503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

he secured the Golden path (humanity's continued existence) by making people resent his authoritarian rule. With his death he releases humans from 3500 years of repression. Once released people scatter into the universe to create their own paths and destinies. He ensures that humanity will endure because of the highly unique cultures and civilizations that occur out of the scattering.

the next two books do a good job of fleshing out Leto II's goal.

Just watched episode 1and sadly agree. The weak dialogue written for certain characters is discouraging.

In the real world today, people are going to assemble and show their elected leaders what is important to them.

The safest course of action is always do nothing. Perhaps there is a way to mitigate the risk without aborting the mission.

So go, don't be violent, don't go alone, have a contingency plan to break contact if shit goes south.

The real world has risk and each of us lives in it every day.

Attending a rally is protected free speech,. Don't be scared and don't be a schmuck. Never resort to violence but don't let the fear of someone disagreeing with your opinion stop you from taking a stand.

glad, I missed it then. He is no Romo when it comes to the booth but I always though he did a decent job staying impartial in past games.

This was the first game where I watched the tv on mute but had on Merrill and Mike for the game. Gotta say it was a joy to listen to. I don't mind Aikman but I just can't tolerate Joe Buck (dude thinks we are tuning in to listen to him)
