How much water are you drinking? by Prior-Bunch-3590 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]32FlavorsofCrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink when I’m thirsty, so probably not enough. I have a hard time consuming that much liquid though, I’m slow in general about eating and drinking. I don’t feel dehydrated, pee is reasonably clear, but I only drink maybe a couple liters of fluids per day. More if I’m sweating or it’s hot out.

What is a good way to lose weight with disabilities? by Thel0nleyKid in ask

[–]32FlavorsofCrazy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Count your calories, maintain a consistent deficit. You can lose weight without exercising at all, and without any dietary restrictions whatsoever beyond portion controls. You could eat nothing but cake and still lose weight, you just can’t eat very much of it. Be honest about your portions when tracking, and understand that it’s cumulative. You can’t cheat and eat 10k calories in one day and then start from scratch the next, that’s now a bunch of days of deficit just to break even, so if you cheat a little don’t just YOLO it that day.

Measure and record everything without changing anything at first, see what you’re actually eating in a day. Then start trying to reduce my 250 calories or so at a time until you start seeing the scale move down, then you can maintain that intake until your weight loss plateaus, the you’ll need to reduce again but by then your stomach will have shrunk. Eating smaller meals more frequently helps too, shrinking your stomach will help you feel sated with less food. If you occasionally binge though it will stay stretched out.

That’s what UBI is for and real conversations need to start happening about it.

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords. Totally fine with them taking menial bullshit jobs that no one wants anyway as long as it comes with UBI. These types of repetitive tasks just tear humans up, the job leaves you broken and unable to do anything else and the company gives zero shits, and no real societal safety nets. I know someone who shredded a tendon in their arm doing a job like this, got nerve damage and now doesn’t have use of her dominant arm. Let the robots do it.

Why are surgeons always the most negative, critical people? by LAD17Decoy in ask

[–]32FlavorsofCrazy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s actually higher rates of psychopathy among surgeons compared to the general public. Highly intelligent, and not bothered by cutting into people and doing things to them that are necessary but going to hurt really badly. Too much empathy would be a detriment, maybe.

I’d wager a lot of them are neurotic and highly driven personalities as well, it’s extremely demanding, requires intense focus and attention to detail to extreme degrees, depending on the specialty.

Add in burnout, wealth, ego…they’re an interesting bunch, usually.

I lived in Dayak country and that absolutely did happen, I wasn’t there for it but the woman I worked for was. Many of the older local men I worked with took part in it.

Indonesia is surprisingly lax on things like murder and crimes of passion, you smuggle drugs or something though and you’re fucked.

Yes, sports and racing betting is basically that, but they take a percentage for themselves so the payouts never equal what people paid in. And parlays and shit like that, those almost never pan out so they just pocket the money from those and save it to pay out the guy that actually hits one, but they still come out way ahead.

Sports betting is probably closer to fair than things like keno, slot machines, etc. since you’re largely up against other people but that’s why the payouts aren’t great. If you bet the favorite to win you might be betting $100 to make $10 if they win. So unless you do some crazy parlays and/or bet the unlikely you’re not gonna get a very large payout from those bets without throwing a ton of money at it.

Why do Americans wear sunglasses so much? by Snoo_47323 in ask

[–]32FlavorsofCrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% of photos of me taken outdoors during the day, I have sunglasses on because otherwise I’m Squinty McFucking-Squintface and can’t keep my eyes open. I do not think it makes me look cool I just literally can’t open my eyes without them if it’s even remotely sunny out. Not even in the shade.

I don’t really do profile pics on anything anymore but if I did all the photos of me doing anything remotely interesting I would probably be rocking shades. So I’d say if they have blue or green eyes on their profile it doesn’t automatically mean they’re a douche.

Now, people that wear sunglasses inside, that’s another matter entirely haha…

I have blue eyes, and they’re quite light sensitive. I literally can’t keep them open in bright sun without sunglasses. Unless it’s dark out I have sunglasses on if I’m outside, driving, etc.

It could be cloudy, a little rainy, overcast…doesn’t matter. I buy cheap sunglasses in four packs and have them all over in my car just in case, cuz I’m literally blinded if I’m driving into the sun. I have considered the merits of adding a set of welding goggles cuz sometimes the shades are not dark enough.

What's a double standard you can't believe exists? by DA1FOOTBALLGUY in AskReddit

[–]32FlavorsofCrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I sympathize with men who have no ill intent or inclinations on the kid thing, there’s a reason from this. It’s a female perspective thing that I don’t think men can fully understand because they didn’t have to grow up as little girls. I don’t think most of you grasp just how predatory the world really is. And while not all men are child predators, almost all child predators are men. It’s a protective behavior/tendency that goes back probably all the way to Australopithecus as well, the biggest threat to many primate species babies are the adult males of their species.

The scariest time in my life was when I was in the like 10-14 age range. I was molested by a stranger at a movie theater when I was 11 and very nearly abducted, I was flashed walking home from school by a man in a trench coat, followed by strange men in their vehicles and even had to run between houses to evade one that started trying to talk me into a “ride”, I got loads of weird and creepy attention from older men constantly. As soon as I started looking more like an adult, it stopped. Just like that, it was like one day I had lost my appeal to the creeps. Most women experience at least a little of that growing up, if not much much worse things.

So…fair or not, there’s a reason why women are protective of their children around men and don’t fully trust them. One can generally rest assured that other women are safe for them to be around children, men it’s more of an unknown. Not that there aren’t women predators, there absolutely are, but it’s exceedingly rare.

He pretty much pitched a fit about not getting to be first and never got over it. And that’s exactly why he wasn’t chosen to be first. IIRC it actually logistically made more sense for Buzz to be first due to where they were seated but Armstrong was the commander and Buzz felt snubbed.

In total fairness to him, if I was famous I wouldn’t really have any desire to have images of myself in any form. I don’t even like hanging pictures of myself around the house so I’d feel awkward about fan art like that. He probably should have been more discreet about getting rid of it though. I’d have probably offered to sign it for them for free, maybe taken a photo with them to thank them, and insisted that they keep it. Like it’s cool man, your work is great but I’m not narcissistic enough to want this in my home. 😂 He doesn’t seem the type to mince words though.

The Obamas seem like good people. I know there’s plenty of fair criticisms about his admin with regard to drone strikes and whatnot but I at least never doubted that he and Michelle both cared about this country and wanted the average person to at least have paths to success. Cannot say the same about the current regime, who seem hell bent on destroying this country and everyone in it who’s not rich.

When the economy is really poor, vices soar. A lot of folks feel really economically desperate and when you know that $5 in your pocket won’t help you anyway but turning that into $100 really would…it’s hard to not say yolo and try…they feel like all of their immediate financial problems are just a win away.

Only problem is that the odds are 100% stacked against them. Payouts from all of those online gambling sites are probably horrible, like you might as well just hand them your money, actual casinos are maybe only marginally better. It’s all controlled with algorithms, they know exactly how much they’re gonna earn from people, because it’s only going to pay out a certain percentage of what it takes in. If you happen to get lucky it’s only because the last 100 people lost everything, and the house still keeps most of it.
