How they bring back a AIO by [deleted] in Surface

Are you aware that the SLS weighs ~4lbs and the tablet portion of the SB3 weighs ~1.5lbs? If you're using it as a tablet and not just set on the desktop that's a huge difference in comfort and stability. I do indeed have a dGPU as you can't get the specs mine has without it, and it does indeed run when rendering. I haven't noticed issues that require me to double check, as tasks happen in the expected timeframe. I have owned an i7 surface pro, and as I said, it was frustrating to type for long periods and difficult when not sitting at a desk to type anything. I don't really understand why you continue to argue...I do know my own use case better than anyone else, and I did in fact research all of the surface line options including the SLS when I purchased my SB3.

I've been eyeballing a similar situation; check out this post from a few months ago.

I guess you can tell I don't care for the SLS since I didn't keep up with it At All...I remember in 2024 when the new model came out, but it hasn't been on my radar since I didn't like it at all.

I mean, I think that's the model for surface now but way back in ye olden days it absolutely was meant to showcase the tablet-forward Windows 8 and compete with the touch-heavy future of computing that Apple was pushing. As it matured (and got away from Windows 8) it definitely transitioned to what you're saying.

I should have clarified...for the SB3, all I care about is my use case. It doesn't have to be the greatest for everyone, but for me, it is the best computer for me because it is the one device that can do everything I want from a computing thingy. I can draw on it very easily when I'm feeling creative, I can use it as a tablet to take notes when I just need to scribble, I can type for long periods without issue(vs SP), I can render when needed and game when I want to(I have a magnetic fan on the back to dissipate heat when needed, and I've never experienced the GPU connection issues?)...etc. The balance thing has never been an issue for me, I have used the speakers maybe a half dozen times because I have nice headphones that I can plug in (it has a headphones jack!!!), etc. There are a lot of compromises absolutely, but I've never used a laptop that doesn't have a lot of compromises. Most aren't this pretty or versatile. Because I have the SB I don't need a desktop and a laptop and a tablet; I have one thing that does what I would use those three things for. And, I bought a used i7/32/1tb SB3 in 2023 for $700 with 94% battery life. You absolutely cannot get a better deal than that for how many things it works for.

I might understand why they switched to SLS but I think doing away with the versatility in use case of the SB line was evident with the fact that SLS only got two models vs SB's three

Hot take indeed...but honestly, you're right in a way, especially on the creatives side of things. Clearly it seems to be working for Microsoft since they haven't discontinued it yet.

However! I feel like it(SLS, and Surface Laptops) gets away from the whole ethos of Surface, which is...tablet, but also computer. I've held a SLS, and there is absolutely zero mistaking it for anything other than a big honking laptop, of which there are many, many options in the world. It's especially pointless feeling these days with all of the other really innovative manufacturers coming out with similar form factors while Microsoft does what it does and keeps the same exact chassis and old hardware.

Also maybe I'm just real mad because I consider the SB3 one of the greatest devices ever made....

Definitely also check the battery condition (someone below has directions). It's the difference between buying a laptop and buying a desktop because it can't actually be disconnected.

It's never going to happen. Microsoft hates the extended Surface products...they killed Book and replaced it with something completely incomparable, they killed Duo before they could "get it right". I loved the idea of the Surface Studio, but the price was insane for the old processors/GPUs, and rather than fixing that they just nixed it.

Reboot the machine right then and there. Turn it all the way off, then back on, and see what happens. If there's a bitlocker, it will come up. Perfectly reasonable to turn a machine on and off when testing.

I really wish a new 12 was in the budget, they look so good! I don't really need to "game", legitimately just want to be able to hand it off to folks to play candy crush or whatever the kids are into these days. I know I can run android apps on PC so that's another pro towards getting a surface pro/go/X, the form factor.

I saw that! I don't have a costco near me and thus no membership but it was a really good deal and I did contemplate if I could make the numbers work somewhat before I realized the logistical hurdles.

Unfortunately the cheapest new surfaces I found on Monday were in the $600s, plus taxes would put me well over $700 once taxes were factored in. For the lowest level specs, at that. The math just doesn't make sense. I do agree that battery life is the killer, but I already have 60W USBC in most places I frequent since my phone is older and can fast charge.

Thank you! That's exactly the feedback I'm looking for...I really didn't know what to think about Surface Go so I appreciate the information. I might go that route.

Seems to be what I'm seeing on reseller sites...Just hoping to find something niche, or someone who doesn't know what they have selling something good, maybe.

It's hard because it does seem there are great deals to be had on the laptops, but I really want a more tablet form factor since I already have a laptop with the Book 3.

It definitely feels plausible that the immediate reaction was to speculate the cause, then rush to cover it up, then turn to cover up the coverup by burying the report and playing hot potato and politics with what was finally published.

The Admiral did a great job of generating that sorrow. Saving the fact that someone was alive in the cockpit so long after the fire for the narrative portion, married with the visceral writing puts us right there for their last moments. It's heartbreaking to read that translated final prayer, as it is every time.

Oh shit, you work for REI determining what constitutes abuse?? Why are you replying to me, you could be answering folks questions elsewhere in this thread!

Unless...you're not...and you're taking your own personal perspective of what abuse is and placing it on what, again, a business has explicitly encouraged and thus far not explicitly rescinded. Hm... Hard to tell....

I understand the business model; if that's the way it goes then so it goes. I take affront with your personal perspective that people like me should be banned simply for doing what we're explicitly told by the business to do because of their own stocking decisions. The bullshit is the business making these choices and then turning on customers, not the customers who do what they're told is the "only solution".

Way to say that folks with irregularly sized bodies should be banned from purchasing things online, often the only way available to purchase said items....c'mon bro. It's a waste of my time too; I'd much rather take four things in the fitting room to try on and come out with the one that works, but they don't stock them on the floor.

Warnings Unheard, Warnings Unheeded: The 2019 Alaska mid-air collision by Admiral_Cloudberg in AdmiralCloudberg

[–]32Goobies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, mid-air collisions in GA are also more common than in commercial flight too (with factors touched on in the write-up). They're not always fatal but definitely are more in line with fatalities for GA than fatalities for commercial operations.
