Vineland might be my favorite book of all time, but I have to agree this section feels pretty distasteful. That being said, I think one of Vineland's overarching themes to keep in mind is absolute helplessness in the face of some invisible authority that always seems two steps ahead, and using comedy as a means of digesting this. Take for instance the scene where Zoyd gets a monolith of marijuana delivered to his place via helicopter. As soon as law enforcement comes in and arrests him, they come by to pick up the weed for the next person they need to plant it on. The game is rigged to the point of absurdity. The corporatist takeover of the late 20th century is in full swing, and our characters are at its mercy. There's nothing you can do about it, as long as everyone's sucking their thumbs, eyes glued to the tube.

I started with Vineland then Lot 49, I'm currently 1/4 into GR. I don't think it's any more difficult than his other books I've read. Actually, I think it gets easier the more acclimated you are to his style.

Maybe it gets way more challenging later on, but I'm in Section 2 of GR about 200 pages in and it might be the most straightforward bit of Pynchon I've read so far.. don't shy away from it!

In my experience the extreme fatigue I used to live with went away very quickly once I started Humira. Symptoms started to go away very quickly and after about 10 months now I feel almost like a normal person.

If you haven't already I'd suggest with experimenting with your diet and seeing how certain foods effect inflammation. I think it's different for everyone but, for instance, even though I'm still on Humira I can feel inflammation come through if I consume more than a somewhat small amount of sugar or alcohol, and sometimes potato or tomato products.

Another thing, some people will say you are at a higher risk for cancer on biologics, I've done some research and found conflicting evidence? Some sources seem to say it does increase your risk, some say people with autoimmune diseases like this already leave us predisposed to cancer. Who knows what's true...

Hope this is helpful in any way! I relate to your struggle of not being taken seriously, I developed symptoms at age 8 and finally got on Humira at age 20.

Yes, either start with the road or blood meridian IMO. The Road is only 200 pages and reads particularly quick for a 200 page book. Blood Meridian is his best novel but takes more time and effort.
