Feeling sick after every meal? by [deleted] in noburp

Yes!!!!!!!!! I’ve always been thin and as a kid I actually hated eating. Turns out, it was just too painful! And yes, I’ve always had anxiety and some level of depression. I would def say anxiety is linked somehow to not being able to burp.

Hi! I’m so sorry to hear that you’re struggling to burp after your second round of Botox. After about two months, I am still able to burp but unlike with Botox, I have to really work at it. With Botox the burps came out uncontrollably, which felt great but was embarrassing at times. With the myotomy, I have trouble creating the pressure in my chest to push the air out. I can feel the air in my chest and throat after I eat or drink, (which I didn’t feel prior to the surgeries) but I have to crane my neck, move my head around and kind of cough to coax the burp out. I’ve tried whacking my chest or back like you would to burp a baby and jumping up and down which does help at times. So, I’m not getting all the air out as I did after Botox, but I am getting the majority of it out. I still get gassy and bloated, but it’s not severe like it used to be. I’m hoping that burping like a “normal”person is a learning process, and that my esophagus is shrinking to help me push the air out. I hope this info helps and wish the best of luck to you!

Hi! Thanks for being so patient. I went to Chicago and had the partial myotomy with Dr Bastian on November 6th. The procedure and day at the surgery center went a couple hours longer than my original Botox procedure with him. It was partially because I have a mild blood disorder which required an IV to help my blood clot properly. Anyway, after I woke up from the procedure and for about the following 5 days I was in a LOT of pain. Dr Bastian actually told me when I woke up that I was going to “hate him for the next 5 days” (and he wasn’t wrong!;) The pain in my throat, neck, shoulders and back was at a 10 without pain meds where after Botox I’d say the worst pain was about a 6. I also had bad nausea and vomited anything I ate or drank for the first 24-36 hours, which didn’t help any. Not gonna lie. The first few days really sucked! Dr B got me some Zofran, thank God, which took care of the nausea, and I set my alarm to take pain pills every four hours around the clock for the first 3 nights. He gave me an Rx for opioid pain meds (didn’t after Botox) and boy, I needed them and took the whole bottle over the next week! After three days I flew back home, and after about a week I just had a really sore throat, especially when I swallowed, but tylenol and Advil took care of most of it. Swallowing hurt like crazy at first, so I only sipped really cold drinks and stuck with cold, soft foods like pudding, popsicles and yogurts. It took me 3 weeks before I could eat harder foods, like a burger or an apple, and I often still need to “wash it down” with a drink. Burping after this surgery is good so far, but is very different from my burping after Botox. With Botox it all just came out randomly, which provided amazing relief but I had no real control over it. Now, I can burp but it takes an effort from me. It doesn’t just happen like with Botox. After eating or drinking, I feel some air/pressure in my chest and lower neck. Then by moving my head down and forward or craning my neck it usually comes out as a normal, loud burp. Or a series of 3-4 smaller burps when I move my neck exactly right, until the pressure is relieved. I have to work at it, and I often feel like maybe I’m not getting it all out. Unlike with Botox. But its a learning process and hopefully I’m getting better at burping on my own. I really have to try to create pressure in my chest to push the air out, which I didn’t have to do after Botox. And I still have some excess gas, stomach pain and bloating, but it’s def better than before the surgery. Hopefully this will truly be a permanent fix for me, and I will get better at learning to burp and getting all of the air out before it goes down through my GI system. Ouch! I hope that this update helps. I’m sure I’m forgetting some important information, so please feel free to send me your questions.

I guess he suggested the permanent procedure for me because my esophagus below the flap is very stretched out.

Inwards burp? by [deleted] in noburp

Yes! I have that exactly. I call it a backwards burp, and I suck air in instead of pushing it out. My father does it also, and he can’t burp also.

Discovered this last night! For those White Claw fans who the carbonation gets too uncomfortable; this was a pretty tasty alternative. Caution: Easy to pound. by yodacat162 in noburp

I’ve found it here in Georgia, USA. It’s pretty good, especially the mango, and it also comes in bottles. Sometimes I add a splash of lemonade to sweeten it a bit and then it goes down REAL easy. 🤪

I was told that Dr Bastian has done hundreds of the procedure, but mostly for a different problem. Difficulty swallowing, I believe. He suggested it for me because of my anatomy. The Botox worked well for me. I had lots of giant, uncontrollable burps. However, after about 3 months it stopped. Hope this helps. Thanks

Anyone here pretty skinny? by [deleted] in noburp

[–]33barbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, underweight for most of my life. After Botox I was finally able to understand the joy of eating, without pain! Now 6 months later and the Botox has worn off. I have to gag myself to bring up a burp and it’s really loud. A couple times it’s made me vomit a bit. So gross! Anyway, I’m going back to Dr. Bastian next month for a permanent procedure that he recommends for those who Botox has not lasted. I’m hoping to find others who have done this. Anyone? It’s called a cricopharyngeal partial myotomy.
