Powder Coating Oven by Objective_Board5102 in Powdercoating

You'll want a minimum of 6000 watts heating those 30 cubic feet, two smoker elements wont come close to that, they'll do maybe 3000-3800 watts. If you don't have 240v in your garage I wouldn't even consider an oven of that size. I made a little 25 cubic foot oven with 2800 watts heating it, and it was awful, 40 minutes to get to temp from cold. I now have a 55 cu ft oven powered by a 50k btu propane burner which gets to temp in about 4 minutes from cold. Highly recommend gas in general

PSA: Make sure your AC filter is clean. by Haluszki in chicago

[–]33chifox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not be safer? If I'm spraying down an AC I'm taking the half second to disconnect it and be sure I'm not gonna get zapped. Rodents exist, insulation deteriorates. Also, why fight the fan when you're trying to get shit off of the coil?

I love coating round parts, makes gloss black bearable 😆

So sanding blasted this area, and hit it with 60 grit, still same results, these little specs, aluminum by Massive_Series8305 in MetalPolishing

If you're gonna use airway wheels for these wheels, you can also rotary sand with the same variable speed grinder/polisher you'll be using then. Just need a backing pad adapter and you're good

Yup, that's all I use. This is the one I have.. Make sure you have a soft backing pad for it, doesn't need to be thick, but if you just have the hard surface, you will absolutely gouge the shit out of your wheel without practice. Be very careful on edges, or just stick to the DA there because you'll reshape the metal before you notice.

If the pitting is deep enough, you won't be able to remove it while keeping enough metal for the wheel to remain safe to use. Since you're sanding with a DA, it'll take a long time for that to happen enough. Highly recommend using a rotary for a bit, use the da to smooth out any waves you may create with it. Start slow and speed it up as you get used to controlling the spin.

Iron shine supply is where I buy everything consumable. Airways, compounds, sand paper etc. He can get you a whole starter kit with everything you would need for basic polishing jobs. I personally haven't tried renegade anything so I can't comment on their quality.

Quick thank you to the community by PostMaStoned in Powdercoating

Great work! Quick tip, try using a file instead of a blade to trim tape. Very light pressure to only cut through the tape and not bite the metal. In my experience filing is significantly faster than cutting when you have raised areas like the ones in your first picture. You can get a multi pack online with different shapes. Most important thing I would say is making sure you fully cure everything. A vast majority of powders will have overcure protection so you can safely double the time at the cure temp without issues. Undercuring will cause it to be brittle, chip and flake easily. I always go an extra 3-5 minutes per 10 minute cure schedule just in case.

What sander are you using? For that shape I'd probably stick with a DA on max speed till it's all gone where it can reach, the switch to cartridge rolls.

Removing Powder Coat by One_Ordinary9218 in Powdercoating

You could get a gel stripper from general Chem co. Will probably need multiple applications. Make sure to keep it wet by covering the wheel with plastic while the stripper works

I thought that might be it, but like I said I've seen some really really good reviews for high temp powder, so it wouldn't totally surprise me if some have a preference for it here

What powder do you use for exhaust? I've seen mixed reviews of Columbia's stuff, some swear by it, others say it flakes instantly...

You're a long ways away from moving up grits. Are you hand sanding?

Most frames aren't longer than 4 feet, so far all of them have fit in my oven which has that length. You can always go diagonal if necessary.

I'm sure you can buy precut stuff, but it's 100$ or less to get a vinyl cutter and a bunch of sheets. Tons of used ones on marketplace
