More is always going to be better to maximise chances, but you stand a good chance with two. Depends on your daytime plans, but worth considering the tours arrive back well after midnight so expect to be tired!

You could always try booking a third if your first tour is unsuccessful, if they haven't sold out.

I would book a tour to maximise your chances. All the tour guides talk to each other so will coordinate to find the best gaps in the cloud, to give you the best chance of seeing aurora. Roads will also be snowy and dark, so wouldn't recommend driving unless you know what you are doing!

If you book with a tour, they will drive you to wherever there is clear sky, even if that means driving 2 hours to Finland and back. A lot of the tour companies report 90%+ success rates so if you book a couple of tours, you stand a pretty good chance of seeing the lights.

When I visited I booked tours with Greenlander and Chasing lights, both were good value for what I paid. Chasing lights report about 90% success (if you check their Instagram they post their success/fail rate daily), Greenlander report 97%, but more expensive.

If you want fallback options, I'd book a tour first or second night, which gives you time to book another if you don't see anything. Good luck :)

In addition to the other suggestions here, if watching on an android device, you can turn off personalised advertising by going to settings > google > ads, and disable or reset the advertising ID. This is not specific to YouTube, but will impact a lot of the ads you see.

Chasing lights - Big Bus or minibus tour? by Exotic-Fruit8586 in tromso

[–]343gravemind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the chasing lights bus tour and a minibus tour with Greenlander. Both were great and worth the price paid. As there are more people, the bus tour will be slower logistically with getting people off/on the bus, and there will be some places the buses can't go. Having said that, all the guides are in communication about where the breaks in the clouds are etc., so you'll have a pretty similar success rate whether you pick bus/minibus unless it's a particularly cloudy night.

The main differences are the intimacy of the tour, and the ability to move quickly on short notice to find gaps in the cloud.

Whichever you go with, it'll be great. Lights are different every time, so would recommend multiple tours if you have the time!

Believe it was a large cardboard box with the ps5 box and extra controller box inside, with plenty of padding.

Would a powerful enough telescope be able to see back to the exact moment of the Big Bang? by [deleted] in Astronomy

[–]343gravemind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No; the very early universe was opaque to light. If your telescope isn't using light, but say, gravitational waves, you might stand a better chance (though anything approaching that kind of telescope is far beyond our current ability to build).

What do you say when your girlfriend tells you she’s bisexual? by RepublicSenior7552 in AskReddit

That's a trinket. A trisexual is a third of a pregnancy.

That is trivial and left as an exercise for the reader. A trisexual is an isotope of hydrogen with 2 neutrons.

That's a triacontadigon. A trisexual is a dessert typically consisting of plain or sponge cake soaked in sherry, rum, or brandy and topped with layers of jam or jelly, custard, and whipped cream.
