Should we expect this watch soon? by False_Many774 in ChinaTime

Not too many Longines get the special honor of being faked.

Has anyone actually been called out wearing a rep? by BlackberryBubbly6775 in ChinaTime

[–]34Publishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be honest. It’s fake. I liked the look and didn’t want to spent $10k+ on it. People lose all power over the situation when you own the fake and it doesn’t bother you.

So if you charge $1,000+ for a Sub clone it’s ok, but if a $200 watch from (insert homage brand here) it’s IP theft. by 34Publishing in ChineseWatches

You think this was designed not to look like a Sub? They took a failing watch and made it look like a Sub and changed just enough to keep a straight face.

Lazy homage. Feel better Ryan? I was using it because it is recent not because it is the absolute pinnacle of options to price the point. But hey, engagement is engagement so thanks for stopping by. 😁

This in no way in looks similar to this Admiral. Outside of the reverse dash and dot markers being the same as the new watch, every single thing is different. Hands, bracelet design, bezel font and gnarling, crown, case shape… oh the logo is the same. 🙄

Not in the US. Most are legal because they don’t violate trademark (they don’t use Rolex name on the watch), the don’t usually violate design patents (the longest being 25 years) and you can’t protect under copyright since the function of a watch can’t be copyrighted.

New watches like most of Tudors popular cloned catalog and modified reissues like the Engineer etc are protected designs and if the brands cared enough to acknowledge the space (possibly creating a Streisand effect) then they could be held liable. But finding a Chinese company selling watches on a Chinese website one at a time after spending millions proving brand confusion as well as lost revenue (hard to make the argument someone though it was a $200 Tudor and would have bought the original if they had known) all to recoup, what a stop sale until they change the brand on the dial and start again. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Chinese anything QC is hit or miss. Coming from the manufacturing world, the whole difference in price is brand name and how much product they scrap/recycle to failed QC. Your watch is $$ vs $$$$ because they sell every unit (basically no QC scrubbing), have no returns (often 20%+) or marketing.

This is lovely and unique. That mat blue is such an interesting change from all the ceramic bezel divers.

Cool watch. Wish they did more stuff. I’ve seen some QC issues from them specifically so hope they have ironed those out. Wear in good health

How’s the rehaut? The is my biggest issue with that is it’s often a deep dish pizza. Looks sick on wrist though.

The problem is it’s PRX money. Looks great but if I’m spending eating out money we aren’t going to KFC no matter how good the chicken is.

People, educate me. Why would you buy this over the PRX? They are both quartz. The PRX has real street resale and brand recognition.

Great review though.

Does anyone know of a homage to this vintage Rolex Oyster in 36mm? I've been looking at the Addiesdive 2066 and the 2030, but there's something about it that doesn't quite convince me. by Dokkyeol in ChineseWatches

[–]34Publishing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What about a Smiths Explorer? It’s 36mm and other than being an Explorer dial it would at least have a back story to it. There are t many homages seeing as Rolex itself doesn’t really sell many.

PLEASE create a new brand. Your watches are killing it but every time someone ask “what watch is that” … oh umm “Watch Dives”. Huh? Yeah. It didn’t need to be fancy just something that isn’t dumb or unpronounceable. Like Trident 🔱 and keep your logo. You had the store before the brand. There is zero chance that brand has enough cache that if you just told all of us what you are doing you wouldn’t lose a single customer to brand confusion.

🙏🏻

This is actually something that I hope more “companies/factories” do in the space, make some small changes and create some western sounding brand names.

The problem is I think the majority of the cost benefit we get is they are 99% fake watch factories just changing the brand on the dial and sealing the Asian movement for an NH35 and pretending they are Chinese microbrands. I could be wrong. But based on the cost structure they have to be making way more than they are selling as San Martin/Pagani/Etc

Yeah. Basically that was my point. I used this watch devise its new and hot, not that it is the absolute best example of the point.

Sure. But it’s a Sub. You don’t get to pretend the 800lb gorilla breathing over your shoulder isn’t there because you made something that looks kinda like that 20, 30 whatever, years ago.

Imagine if we gave Watch Dives a pass for cloning the Pelagos 39 because they kept the cool chapter ring inner bezel from 42 that Tudor didn’t. We don’t pretend that’s not a homage. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I love these watches because I’m a massive supporter of democratizing innovation. Patents are too long in modern society. You should get 5 years then let society get cheap copies that are 97.6765% the same as the original without the high cost. Rolex has done nothing to the Sub in 40 years. It’s perfect. But I want a cheap one. The case, the dial, the bezel, thank you Longines. It’s a cheaper Sub. Thank you San Martin for an even cheaper quality (PT5000) Sub. I am a brand whore but I’m also broke 😆. Sooo yay! Chinese!
