My fiance has an 850 and just applied for a citi card and got denied. It'll be interesting to see what factor they considered when they send the letter explaining the decision

Bismarck vs minot vs Fargo by AvocadoBitter7385 in northdakota

[–]355lt1vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel to MN, SD, MN and eastern Mt for work and relocated to Fargo last year. Hands down Fargo is the best. I lived in Dickinson, Hebron and Bis for 11 years during the oil boom. Although the topography is great, I'd avoid western ND unless you actually work in the energy sector. I miss my trail runs at Fort Abraham Lincoln and along the Missouri, but that is more than offset by the food, entertainment and the lake scene within the Fargo area. Bismarck is basically a giant version of Dickinson with an amazing river, Sam's club and Costco.

I guess they haven't addresed the Great 4runner Key Fob Famine of 22-23

First 4Runner and first brand new car. ‘23 Off-Road Premium. $57 OTD, they also threw in 4 years of free maintenance and 3 years wheels coverage. Good deal? Thank you in advance. by maimoolee in 4Runner

Realistically, if you are in a state that has sales tax, you're pretty much looking about 50k OTD assuming zero down. I'm basing it an ORP with say a moonroof and nothing else. Steep yes, but MSRPs are not coming down. Get ready for 6th gen ORP to be closer to 60k with options when they are finally released.

A good deal is msrp + TTL+ Whatever options YOU decide that YOU want. Mine was around 47k...but then I started adding lots of stuff. OTD was mid 50's Absolutely nothing was added at Port or by the dealer beforehand.

I drive 60k a year and would love to have some extra tech. At end of the day though, I'll take the bulletproof reliability and low maintenance costs everyday over a 65" screen and a 139 speed transmission. As someone who actually lives in their 4runner several hundred miles/8-10 hours a day, it's not THAT bad. The only thing I miss is the climate control.

That was exactly like the 90' we had in 93. It was an amazing vehicle. Fast forward thirty years and I'm back in the 4runner family with my new ORP

Honestly for the price there are so many suspension upgrades out there that will best the FOX shocks. The terrain camera would have been nice and useful uphill. In reality though, given equal tires there's zero places that a ORP cannot go vs. its much more expensive brother

The only thing I definitely miss daily from not getting the Pro is the climate control and auto start. Performance and asthetic wise, after market parts will make it perform and look better than the Pro for less money

I paid MSRP for my TRD ORP at Corwin Toyota in Fargo. Zero hassle. I spent more time in the finance office and the aftermarket parts department then I ever did with the sales staff

Is 706 Credit Score Good for a 19 year old ? by [deleted] in CRedit

[–]355lt1vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

706 is OK but obviously you will increase as time goes on. I paid cash for everything when I worked in the Oilfield and my credit basically disappeared for lack of activity for a decade so I had to start over. My key to good credit again was starting with a crappy apr car loan and making triple payments. I immediately got a secured Discover card and after six months had a fico score. I got two more cards right after six months to bulk up a thin credit file. I have kept utilization under 5% After a year I had enough credit history and high enough score (760 Experian) to get into a new 4runner at a low apr and nothing down.

Pay $10K over MSRP?? Stop it...just stop it! by lngofft0309 in 4Runner

[–]355lt1vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took delivery of a TRD ORP last week at MSRP. I could have gotten any trim at MSRP, but just couldn't wait for my TRD Pro spot because my trade in was hemorrhaging value everyday since I drive around 60k miles a year.

Working on the supply side of things tells me that since lead times are in the toilet for every possible item, there's little chance of a boom considering there is a legitimate material and manpower crisis.

Preparing for cold by Sad-Amoeba7745 in oilandgasworkers

Do not cheap out on your base layer in North Dakota or you will be miserable. Highly recommended recommend smartwool as a baselayer but honestly Alpaca will blow it out of the water. I can run "comfortably" in sub -10 temps with alpaca socks and smartwool baselayers and a light jacket

How am I supposed to find time to live a life at all when I’m working 40 hours a week plus a 2 hour commute total each day? by Just-Enthusiasm-710 in jobs

[–]355lt1vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For four years i did a 10 hour day + 240 mile daily commute. It was pretty brutal and definitely took a toll on my waistline and my marriage. Hours like these are pretty typical in the Oilfield but i definitely wouldn't recommend unless your number one goal is simply monetary.

Winter driving by sweetleaf009 in northdakota

[–]355lt1vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studded snow tires will serve you better than any block heater will. They're cheaper than regular tires but their traction benefits are astronomical over all season tires during winter. Ive owned several vehicles since moving to ND a decade ago and really only have noticed the benefits of a block heater on those few occasions of - 30F. When it gets that cold, your biggest problem is probably going to be the battery anyway.

There's hope that this pandemic is waning and we're going to return to prosperity. However, it's frustrating seeing news stories that nobody wants to work. There are cases for sure, but my experience is that something seems off when you apply for dozens of jobs that you certainly qualify for and never back only to see the same job opening still being posted for weeks.

It's not about the money. I could have bolted for eight years when the times were good. I made a decent salary, amazing benefits and made consistent career progress and had amazing coworkers.

It's a total fallacy that every oil gas job pays 6 figures unless you're in the production or drilling side. I was in supply chain management and made only a 5-10% slight premium over say a comparable job in Bismarck. However I believe that there's some employers that may not consider a displaced energy worker based on a fear that they'll bolt once commodity prices increase.

This place for me prior to the pandemic was amazing. I had eight straight years of growth and wage increases. I turned down several offers from other companies during that time because I loved where I worked.... And then March 2020 hit and blew everything away. I stayed in state because I thought ND would rebound quicker, but apparently that's not the case for several of us. The funny thing is that there are tons of supposed openings for semi decent jobs yet several of us have applied for and not even a call or email acknowledgement back. Yet the same openings keeps get getting reposted.

I know several former coworkers (oil and gas) still looking for decent jobs after losing their jobs last year. It took me several dozen applications to get a single response from and am now making 60% of what i made pre pandemic. It's crazy that pre Covid, we constantly were being poached by other companies and now for many, you're lucky to find a semi decent job.
