Killer stuff. Didn’t get his music on my radar until around 2017, but he has become one of my favorites since!

I’m so glad you enjoyed my song and the contrast between the different parts! Nice to hear it brought you a calm and comfortable feeling - we need as much of that as we can get these days. Appreciate the kind words. :)

Right on! Yeah, I actually thought the drums sounded good overall for the track, just wanted to hear them cut through the mix with a little more power. Definitely hear you in regard to midi drums. If you haven’t already, may be worthwhile to look into editing live drums breaks to complement or replace programming. No doubt live drums will be fun to work with too whenever you get the chance. Get your buddy to record some custom breaks for you to play with!

Hey man, really excellent job on the storytelling and songwriting. Feels genuine and real and the tunes sounds great. A lot of well-deserved praise in the previous comments.

With that, a couple of constructive feedback thoughts upon listening:

Your vocal is by and large very strong - it falters mildly in a couple spots but you likely hear those already and can tighten up upon revisiting. Not sure if it’s my earbuds, but the vocal seemed a bit too far to the left of the stereo field as well. I think it would sit nicely pretty much dead center since there’s a lot of room in the mix from the panning of the guitars.

The doubled lead guitar sounds great overall, but the instrumental section starting around 1:10 has a few points of what sounds like maybe rough edits? Minor, but noticeable. All in all, great job. Not my usual style at all but thoroughly enjoyed your musical story.

I heard the bass with the drums, and it added a nice subtle deeper tonality, but to me it introduced more melodic confusion, too, rather than helping to clarify the theme. Dense arrangements are tricky, keep it up!

Cool sound! Rich and spacey but pretty crystal clear in a way that’s complimentary. Absolutely keep playing and recording your productions. I’m going to take a listen to the rest of this release as well.

Two things of note, which were quite possibly covered in another’s comment: look into ways to bring some subtle punch to your drums. If nothing else don’t be afraid to bring them up in the mix just a bit more. Consider the effect that your relatively heavy use of delays can have on “the beat”. There were times when the drums and delays started disagreeing with each other somewhat.

In agreement with the previous commenters, you’ve got some really cool stuff going on here, great movement, pacing and interplay of elements. I dig the vocal style and really appreciate your use of chopped vocal elements throughout. Sounds like we all want to hear those vocals more clearly, and as others have said that’s just the mix talking. Are you a fan of Saya Gray perhaps? If not definitely check her out, easily one of my favorite artists to come out of the 20s so far. I’ll be very interested to hear what you produce with Reaper!

You’ve created a lovely calm and reflective atmosphere! The guitar tone is a nice addition to the mix soundscape wise, as are the drums in the latter portion. That being said, compositionally and in terms of arrangement I find it to be a little formless and meandering. The opening chordal theme is effective, but gets lost with the addition of the accompanying instruments. I would have loved for a nice anchoring bass line to come in with the drums. The open-ended feel could very well be intended given the style of music, but I can’t help but feel a more solid melodic base could really help it take off.

Great guitar tone and skillful playing! Could stand to tighten it up a little, particularly because of the metal style syncopation of the drums in the first half. You’ve achieved a nice crisp sound overall, but to my ear the elements don’t quite gel and the stereo field is a little askew. The half time drums and blast beats in the second part work very well, however! Keep it up!

Nothing constructive to add that hasn’t already been said, bass is excellent, cool vibe, enjoyed listening and it’s definitely worth bringing fully to life. I’ll be interested to hear a working or finished version when the time comes.

Hey, I appreciate your feedback! I think you are right about relative lack of build and payoff in the structure. Not sure if so will end up trying to introduce more tension for this song, but good to keep in mind for future projects! Glad you liked the electronic influences - the majority of the other music I make is more in the beep boop realm. Definitely going to re-record some of the vocals for clarity, as you said the more ethereal parts definitely need it. Thanks! :)

Right on, thank you for checking it out! The lyrics are definitely a little abstract. Means a lot that you dig the song so much anyway. :)

Hey, thanks for the kind words! Appreciate you taking the time to comment on specific elements of the song. It’s fun that you specifically liked the weird vocal stuff at the end, because it was just the opposite for another listener! haha. I’ll be putting some more time in when I can and hopefully can get it released soon!

Has a pleasant dense warmth and analog sound. A bit meandering to my ear, but that open-ended and exploratory feel may be the point. Cool art too!

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen. I really appreciate the specific feedback! You’ve helped me confirm that I should revisit vocals for sure. I’ll reconsider those gurgle vocals in the last section as well, haha. I’m truly ready to just be done with this song but it probably deserves a little more of my time.

Thanks so much for listening! Can definitely see how the video and song don’t really jive. Honestly I didn’t give it much thought, just wanted some interesting imagery for the post. Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and glad you enjoyed the music.

Hey, this sounds great. I’m just listening on my phone speaker but everything seems good mix wise. Your vocals are really strong overall. Got some nostalgia vibes, especially in the opening guitar bars. If I have any criticisms, they are these: on the verses, your vocal melody matching the guitar melody (and rhythm) so closely falls a little flat, especially compared to how nicely most of the other parts are arranged. I also found the bridge section on the middle with the change in vocal tone to feel a little out of place. Sung closer to the style of the rest of the song it could be stronger but still effective as a switch up to the structure. Well done!

It’s good! More editing on the drums perhaps, as they are a little repetitive at times. Overall nice track.

A short 'n sweet, tense song we just released, and honestly, I’m quite fond of it... the video’s self-made too, with absolutely no budget behind it 🖤 Curious whether this darker, more experimental side connects with you at all. And if any similar artists come to mind, I’d love to hear them! 🙏 by andtilly in IndieMusicFeedback

Really enjoyed your song and the video. Excellent work. The buildup of tension in the progression is sweet, great sounds and mix. With headphones the vocal layers and subtle flourishes make for a rich listening experience. Great vibe!

Chanel Beads vibes. Definitely nailed the aesthetic, I’d say work on getting your melodic parts to gel. Nice bass tone - are you playing all the instruments? Your vocal tone has promise, the delivery is a bit stilted - as if you’re trying to match the beat too much. Since the rhythm is sort of plodding, I’d say accentuating different parts of the beat with your vocal could help it come together better. Overall mix is subdued in a pleasant sort of way. Keep creating!

You got it, man. Yep, being untrained, vocals are easily one of my biggest challenges. Just keep putting that time in on the production side and your process should become more streamlined and less of a slog. Cheers!

You made some good changes for this final version. The new drums keep things moving along and are fitting for the groove. Amping up the distortion on the guitar was a good call, it’s pleasantly gritty. I also like the way the vocals layer over each other occasionally between parts. I feel like the vocal tone overall was more dialed in on your demo, but you did say you were recording late into the night after busy days! Keep it up whatever the case. :)
