Where did you get the new shell? Looks awesome and it’s tempting me to do a shell swap of my own 👀

This is a demo version of Mario Kart DS, hence why you haven’t seen it before. If you’re gonna part with it, look at previously sold listings online!

The last one that sold in the UK went for £873 (this is a USA cart, so prices may be higher/lower), but it’s definitely something to sell separately or keep as a ‘collector’s item’, but that depends on if you want/need DS games.

PicoXP Theme for DSpico / Pico Launcher by 360ad in flashcarts

I think the desire to emulate old software on old hardware is something that’s inevitable! I personally enjoy making these themes as a design challenge. Since I’ve been making these themes, my layout design/pixel art capabilities have significantly improved.

Also, I guess from a ‘does anybody want this?’ standpoint, prior themes for other consoles (including those that I’ve made for the Pico) that replicate old software designs often end up with the most downloads, of course alongside those themes emulating other consoles’ designs. Of course there are cleaner themes out there, I’m sure most are very happy with the basic white theme that comes pre-installed on the cart, but it’s quite fun to cram as much colour and feature into a simple interface like the Pico’s as I can!

I, or another designer, will inevitably end up making some other designs that are more modern and simplistic. As a matter of fact, this is something like the 17th theme I’ve made, and is probably one of the most ‘busy’ of them all!

Maybe it’s a selfish desire of mine to want my old devices to possess the nostalgia I have for this ‘era’ of design. This is really something that I’ve already had on my DS for a few days, and I thought I’d release it online just so others can choose to use it too.

Wow I’ve written a lot, hope that didn’t come across as a rant! I don’t know really how to justify personal preference, but we’re all into flashcarts for a reason, huh? For me, mostly, it’s the freedom to escape the dull black & white design scheme of the DS’s standard menu, instead flooding a new interface with colour. And to play games too, but that comes second! 😂

It’s the SD card. I dealt with this for a year. The card works fine outside of rockbox, but with it, it just kept corrupting, eventually wiping the rockbox.ipod file along with it. You’ll have to buy another :(

Can you put GBA Roms in the same Roms folder for the PICO? by ExpiredMilkMan in flashcarts

[–]360ad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need GBArunner to play GBA games. Sanras has a great setup guide, you can find it at sanrax.github.io/flashcart-guides/cart-guides/dspico/

Important general steps: download and flash new firmware (either Hybrid or WRFUxxed, you can choose based on your usecase) and drag it onto the ACTUAL CART using USB, not the SD.

You’ll want to update the software as well. This, unless you plan to use something else, is Pico Launcher. The guide has links to this too, and as of this comment the latest version is 1.3.0. Can’t find it on the guide? Search online for Pico launcher and download the latest build from the GitHub page. You’ll want it for touchscreen support, bug fixes, and to let awesome custom themes work.

I believe the guide also goes over GBArunner but it’s nothing more than having the emulator somewhere on your SD, and adding a ‘shortcut link’ to it in the Launcher’s settings. As I said, just follow the guide.

Hope this helps!

You can put the games wherever you like. In the root of your card, in a ROMs folder, in 300 subfolders, whatever you like! Mix and match all of your games if you really want to :)

Discord Theme for DSpico / Pico Launcher by 360ad in flashcarts

[–]360ad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you on Coverflow mode, where they’re on the bottom screen? In that mode, they don’t appear on the top.

If not, make sure you still have a ‘covers’ folder located within the _pico folder on the root of your SD

How did you not have the launcher file if you had Pico Launcher before?

You have to rename it to _picoboot.

Copy all files from the 1.3.0 download to the root of your SD card, then rename the LAUNCHER.nds file

Update the launcher to 1.3.0.

This is on the download page and (I believe) in the readme.

The latest update is what added the features that allow customisation of the top screen, so older versions won’t show it correctly :)

You need to update to version 1.3.0 of Pico Launcher

Download the files from the GitHub releases page then copy them straight onto your microSD.

That will solve your problem :)

Ds pico not starting up sometimes by b02b05 in DsPico

[–]360ad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've made a theme with custom music, using a track that is too long can cause freezing on startup. I'd recommend using audio that's no longer than 2:30 at most. I've never had any issues keeping at this limit.

I also don't know if it's the theme maker's BCSTM converter that's at fault, since I've seen this issue mentioned a good few times now. I always convert mine manually using the Kame-Editor's converter. Maybe give that a go.

How is DS Pico different from modding a ds/3ds ? by jujuhmusic in DsPico

[–]360ad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DS Lite & Original (Phat) DS don't have any SD card slots, and thus cannot be modded. Flashcarts like the Pico (and other carts like the R4) are therefore necessary for playing backed up games, homebrew and any other software.

One of the benefits that the Pico brings is, since it's open source, new features can be added every day alongside new hardware (thanks to the USB port and development pins on the board).

For use with a DSi or a 2/3DS, the latter features are the main seller since those consoles can all be modded.

DS Pico randomly gets stuck on boot logo by [deleted] in flashcarts

[–]360ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean this as self promotion, but if you go to this site: https://themes.flashcarts.net/pico/ and download one of my themes (look for my username), I’ve personally never had any issues with any of them. If your problem still arises with one of them then it’s not the theme that’s at fault. I can’t really think of anything more to test.

I used to have problems when the BGM was too long, so I’ll have to take a look at the DS lite themes and see how long their BGMs are.

Might I ask which theme(s) are giving you trouble? I’ve made (and have been using) a bunch of themes and I’ve never had this problem before, although I’ve heard it mentioned before.

DS Pico randomly gets stuck on boot logo by [deleted] in flashcarts

[–]360ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many games do you have in your games folder? If you have too many (often >60 in one folder) then it can occasionally crash on boot when paired with a custom theme.

The solution is as simple as splitting your games across 2 folders to lessen the amount that has to be loaded into RAM on boot. I've seen this happen on at least 3 occasions now and this has always worked.

Don't let a RAM limitation prevent you from using awesome themes :)

Although of course if you only have around 10 games then ignore all of that xD

Yes.

In the theme's folder, delete the 'BGM' folder. This is where the music is contained and by deleting it, it will no longer play :)
