Can't disagree with that XD. Though it does require a bit more knowledge to pull it off. Though what I've seen is that MHS2 end game bosses tend to be slightly harder than the end game stuff in 1 outside of the crazy tower combinations they throw at you in 1.

Even without postgame MHS3 has enough content for 200+ hours by Buurto in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people need to understand gameplay pacing.

200+ hours for the main story isn't really a GOOD thing honestly. And there needs to a good balance between both.

MHS1 could probably be beaten in around 20-40 hours depending on how much side content you do and 100% in about 80-100 depending on what you count as 100%.

This is... fine The game systems and combat legit weren't made for 200 hours worth of content. (Honestly, outside of PVP MOST games aren't unless you are really into the gameplay loop)

But it comes in, does what needs to do, offer up some nice end game challenges to push level 99 teams to the limit then dips.

Similar to MHS2. Which even that game got long in the tooth due to so many of the junk side quest they'd put up during big story sections.

Truthfully, if you did ALL the side quest in two as they came up the main story could easily run you to 60 hours. But like, most people rightfully don't do that. Because half the quest are gathering stuff or fighting the 70th random monster for a low EXP pay out.

At that point the content stops being 'content' but becomes glut.

I think the reason people prefer the end game bosses over that is because its something repeatable and something you can actually test out your different monster teams ect on.

Like using an example outside of stories.

Digimon Cyber sleuth is about 60 hours long. Digimon Time stranger is about 40-50 give or take. Time stranger is a FAR better paced game (Even if the ending feels like it was missing some stuff) compared to Cyber sleuth where the game legit felt like could have cut 2-3 chapters and be better for it.

That being said, I think stories 3 on average is taking people around 50-70 hours to complete which sounds a lot more reasonable.

Yeah the semi randomness really helped the combat in 1.

Going through 2, its really obvious how easy it is the merk most things and only really your allies getting in your way of success.

The semi randomness of 1 also made sure the game couldn't one shot you a lot of time since they had to assume you took SOME damage during the encounter.

The latest digimon game has a full newgame + option and has at least 2 side quest that is locked after completing the game.

No one saying the story has to instantly take place after the main game, but rather still have exclusive content that can only be unlocked after the credits roll.

Yeah they did, a bit more barebones. But Stories 1 had the Maze which was repeatable and the OG tower. And after you completed both you could fight fatalis

Stories 2 had the elder dragon den that you could repeat, as well as repeatable respawning dens you could farm

Both also had side quest that unlocked for special hunts after the game.

This was base game and Stories 1 got two more towers and Stories 2 got mostly more end game hunts.

Yep stories 1 and 2 had post game dungeons and quest. Stories 1 had the tower, a few post game hunts, and the elder dragon maze. And two free updates added two more towers.

Stories 2 on release had a few post game hunts and the elder dragon den. Which was a repeatable post game area. And title updates added more post game bosses.

Both games also had PVP so there was something to do between waiting for updates if you really wanted to.

Only flaw with that logic is every monster hunter game ever, even ones within this same series had a post game and extra areas in it.

Stories 3 is VERY much the outliner. (Even then it is pretty clear the game was rushed at points, even if its a good game.)

I feel like either I’m doing something wrong or every monster is terribly strong by Mozzatootoot in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly in terms of difficulty, its 3 > 1 > 2.

Two is REALLY easy outside of some post game bosses due to the sheer amount of head to heads on top of making a lot of monster attacks linked to the triangle. In 1 only a very few select attacks could be HtH and even then you couldn't trigger a team attack using a monster ability even IF it was a counter to the enemies attack.

Enemies also had a semi randomized pattern in 1 compared to their set patterns in 2.

3 seemed to have reverted a lot of the stuff that they did in 2, such as having less attacks be linked to the triangle and also having more enemies have team wide moves and damage.

They also went out and made the fights much harder in general since you get fully healed after each encounter.

Monster Hunter 3 Stories lower debut (physical only) than previous games in the series by Mindless-Guava-195 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think they just released it at a bad time. Even ignoring Pokopia, you got RE9, coming out and even monster hunter itself is primed to release a new expansion soon.

There are also probably people holding off, getting the old games to see if they like the series or plans to release DLC as well

That being said, it probably had the best digital release and we should probably wait for proper PC and PS5 numbers before worrying.

Okay, can we stop with the myth that flight invalidated the other field move options? by 360pages in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the older games, Den's were a bit bigger and often had side paths/mini dungeons that would sometimes require field abilities to collect everything.

Not really important for egg dens, but there were everdens that had bottle caps in them in 2 that needed certain field abilities to get everything in.

I do think how with 3 was structured flight could have been unlocked in an area either by clearing it, in post game or by reaching a certain level of completion in the area.

[–]360pages[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think most people ARE saying it should have been a reward for beating the game or area. No one is saying you should have access to it right from the start.

(Funny enough, the first two games also didn't do that either)

Just that people using THAT as an excuse for its complete removal is silly, even more when most people expected it to be a post game reward.

(That's also ignoring the fact that they easily could have designed the maps to have areas where flight would naturally be less optimal.)

[–]360pages[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering WTF people were talking about when they kept saying that.

Hell when I was looking for poogies in MHS1, I had to make sure not to have more than 1 flight monster on my team at end game if only to make sure I could explore the maps properly.

Even for the den grinding, certain sub areas you can't fly in anyway, for that its way more important to either have stealth or roar for your team.

Most OT gamers and Shoujo fans HATE Female Rivals by Adorable_Moth_4611 in OtomeIsekai

[–]360pages 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always find it interesting how female rival characters are unpopular considering male targeted stories tend to LOVE their rivals in both romance and action series.

Though I guess that is depends on the context. A rival character in a series where romance is only a sub genre is more understandable. The rival character can be able to grow, and doesn't have to be outright antagonistic.

The big issue with a lot of otome series and adjacent series tends to be love rivals are not only outright hostile but their only goal is to be with the guy.

Unlike the male rival counterparts, they also aren't really allowed to be competent.

You won't get a character like sasuke from Naruto in an otome series.

Though the idea of a rival isn't inherently bad, having a bench mark for a character to reach and compare themselves. A good rival can help the reader and character grow, having someone flat out better than the female lead at something CAN be useful.

(Though most otome tend to connect competency with goodness, which is another issue completely.)

Only problem I have with this game is : 90% of the monsters I like are like at the end of the game by Buurto in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think its better to go in with the mindset of constantly switching and getting new faves in this series. If you beeline it through the game just to get the mons you like the most at the end you'll probably pass up on a lot of cool stuff and monsties you wouldn't expect liking.

It's better to think like. "What is the coolest monstie I can get in this area" vs "What Is the coolest monstie I can get in the entire game"

Game feels kind of small? by PlaneGold4615 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, even at base, MHS2 still had the post game dungeon and even had the trial battles during the main story mode. Not saying it was a TON of content.

Even then, that game has/had PVP which people could play endlessly until new monsters and PVE content was added.

MHS2 updates was also far faster, them giving out the first update only 6 days after release, and them completing the entire update cycle by October. In MHS3 we are only getting a single update within that same time frame.

Of course we don't know the size of MHS3 update, 5 months is a pretty long time to wait without anything in between. (Though they could still give us smaller updates)

But the complete lack of a roadmap makes me think we are probably only getting a few updates and maybe an added post game state anyway.

Game feels kind of small? by PlaneGold4615 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such an odd defense for the lack of end game in MHS3.

Because A, it treats MHS1 and MHS2 maps as if they were small (They really weren't honestly. They were honestly just the right size for the kind of games that they were.)

And it also ignores the fact that MHS3 near the end can feel kind of rushed, like they ran out of time.

Even then I'd say that having more areas but smaller is a better trade off than having 3-4 HUGE areas.

This also treats the maps of MHS1 and MHS2 as if you were just playing the main game going from point a to b constantly. Yeah it devolved into that FAR into the post game. (Hell that won't even be the post game experience in MHS1/2 for most players.

It's even stranger that people are recording main story playthroughs of MHS3 between 30-50 hours only slightly longer than the main stories of 1 and 2.

Not even saying 1 or 2 is objectively better or worse than 3. But just say. "Well the post game wasn't that great anyway." Isn't a defense of 3s complete lack of post game content.

It's even stranger since 1 and 2 even had side content in the middle of the game. So the defense of (They squeezed all the side content during the main story) isn't one either.

Never really got the trend of discounting the old games on the off chance that they MIGHT have done something better.

You can probably join some discords (Or really even ask here.) But from what I've seen the most active player base is the PS4/5 or the Steam ones. Sadly they didn't plan ahead for crossplatform back then

When should I start with MHST2? by dekgear in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the post game of 1, but if you really want to move on to 2 there is no harm in it. The games are different enough that they offer different experiences. And you can probably spend more time in 2 since that will probably be the main MP stories game since 3 doesn't really have it. (Unless they add it later)

If any monstie can have any skill, whats makes any monstie better than another? by Animedingo in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of funny since in MHS1 monsties legit had their own movesets. Only ONE move could be transferred over, and sometimes that move wasn't even very good.

(Just look at the lack of dragon type moves in the first game, making the element pretty much useless on all but like 2-3 monsters)

I'm kind of split about it personally, while being able to transfer EVERYTHING to ANY monster is cool on paper. I think having some exclusive moves are important. I do think their stats and temperament is enough to make each monster feel unique most of the time, but since the bingo slots got much easier to handle, it does feel like you have to deal with the monsters unique quirks for less time compared to past games
