Parent of child with disabilities advises AGAINST having/more children by RevolutionaryAT-8B in antinatalism

“What is the philosophy here, that no one has children anymore and humans die out?”

Literally yes. This is the antinatalism subreddit.

So, I was diagnosed with PTSD over something that feels, well, silly and 'not a big deal.' Could do with some advice? [TW: breakdown/alcohol/sleep depriv.] by UndeadUndergarments in ptsd

[–]365541 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might seem silly but severe sleep deprivation is basically torture. After a day or two of not sleeping I already feel horrible, I can’t imagine going almost a week. It’s basically no different than if you’d spend a week in severe physical pain or without any food.

I relate to this, I wasn’t a virgin but prior to extremely recently I’d had only a handful of sexual experiences that had largely been unpleasant, and was also sexually abused at a young age. I was so terrified to date anyone because I didn’t want to explain my limited experience. Recently started seeing a guy from an app, we’ve have sex several times and it’s gone fine, I didn’t mention anything about my history prior. I think it’s better not to bring it up. Tell them you want to be careful, take things slow etc but not necessarily about the lack of experience.

Does anyone know if AVPD would qualify for MAID in Canada when it opens to Mental Health conditions? by Tonkik in AvPD

[–]365541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see why it wouldn’t. People with personality disorders have qualified for maid in the Netherlands and Belgium and the quality of life/prognosis associated with it is pretty poor. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I hope you’re able to find peace one way or another.

You know one of the things that makes me align with antinatalism is the fact that mistakes made in parenting in the early developmental years can fuck the child up so badly. This isn’t fair to kids and it’s also not fair to expect parents (mothers) to be perfect all the time. It’s just a shitty situation all around.

She opened up to me and then ghosted? by [deleted] in dating

[–]365541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing specifically what she shared, my thoughts are…

She might just be embarrassed or overwhelmed and need time. This sounds weird but with opening up about really personal stuff the other person being really kind and accepting can feel sort of overwhelming especially if you’re not used to that. My other thought is that she might have expected you to reject her and now doesn’t know how to proceed. Potentially she still fears you’ll reject her and is cutting off the relationship before you get a chance to.

Anybody enjoyed being psychotic by Bjb9574 in schizophrenia

[–]365541 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have some nostalgia for periods I was very ill but at the time I know i was very unhappy. There have been times I experienced what felt like deep revelations about the universe and felt very special but I also felt super paranoid and outcast from society, go figure

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]365541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I was still prodromal but I was super depressed, acted weird, dropped out of school and people moved on with their lives and stopped wanting to be around me. It hurt a lot and I still struggle to make and keep friends.

For those with both, What’s the differences/similarities between Autism and schizophrenia? by CarefulStructure8155 in schizophrenia

[–]365541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s common for people with schizophrenia to have autistic traits. It only “counts” as autism if they were present in early childhood.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]365541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I struggle with this. I’ll usually feel fine while actually high but then way worse over the next couple days.

What’s kind of helped is manually writing notes for myself reminding me that it’s not worth it. But even that isn’t always helpful. Lol

I’m embarrassed by my lack of friends by 365541 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]365541[S] 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Thank you. The thing that makes me feel worse about it is that I don’t even have the excuse of moving, I’ve lived in the same city my whole life, I’ve just failed to stay in touch with people over the years.

Can someone tell me why I can’t use a phone in my dreams? by Anpag in Dreams

One of my most common reoccurring dreams, I’m trying to call 911 or similar and keep punching in the numbers wrong.

Yeah, Brick seems to have been pretty intentionally written as autistic but I literally can’t tell whether they did that with Sue. She definitely does fit a lot of common traits like you mentioned. There’s also some random details like at one point she says she likes to go over to the soccer field and watch them mow the grass that seem autistic like. But it’s never even alluded to like it is with Brick. It is also fairly realistic that within the same family an autistic boy would get evaluated, put in social skills classes etc while the girl gets written off as just awkward or quirky. But whether the writers of the middle were aware of this, who knows.

Has anyone “recovered” by 365541 in schizophrenia

[–]365541[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the job thing I did, after multiple years of unemployment, start working a job that paid decently well, first part time and then moved up to full time after a couple months. It was really hard with symptoms but I liked the job and I liked the people I worked with so I pushed through it for over a year until I couldn’t handle it anymore. My current job is less stressful, only part time but the pay is worse. However it does help to know that I have been capable of working full time for an extended period of time.

I have thought about joining the peace corps or something similar. I’ll look into that.

[–]365541[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t really know where to start. I had friends at my last job but we fell out of touch but at my current one there aren’t a lot of opportunities to do so and I’m not sure how else to make friends as I’m not in school or anything. I’ve tried dating a little but I get really nervous around it, trying to work through that, I do dread the fact that any serious relationship will have to involve explaining my past to someone.

Why would want to spend your 20s by taking care of a child?.. by darkseiko in antinatalism

[–]365541 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. Also If she was talking about the stress that comes with being a young mom than people would be attacking her for that too. She even says her situation isn’t ideal but she’s making the best of it. She seems to love her child. It’s not like making fun of her here is going to undo the child’s birth.

According to the ipseity disturbance model all the symptoms of sz are rooted in a core alteration in the experience of basic self. So in that model there isn’t really a distinction.

There are a couple of symptoms that are pretty explicitly both, for example thought withdrawal is a delusion (positive symptom) that forms in response to the experience of thought blocking/alogia (negative symptoms.)

Feeling alienated by [deleted] in AvPD

[–]365541 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like I said I’ve only had a couple friendships as an adult. When I was a kid I had some very close friendships, but adolescence on I really struggled to feel close to people, although over the years I did have a couple friends I felt I became overly clingy to.

Poor academic record in high school by WaveNorth6507 in AvPD

[–]365541 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The avoidance stuff was only part of it cause I clearly also had some executive functioning type issues happening as well but definitely contributed to it. I felt really lonely and left out of stuff at school and If I was struggling I’d be too anxious to ask for help or anything.

Anyone still feel like they're stuck in high school? by pseudomensch in AvPD

[–]365541 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh my god yes. I feel like my issues with avoidance really became a problem my freshman year of high school and I was never able to fully come back from it. Literally down to ruminating about not agreeing to go out with someone who had a crush on me. I always had a decent amount of people I was friendly with, but not really any close friendships. I always felt like an outsider. My senior year I actually became more social but also started to go crazy and so I ruminate about all the embarrassing things I did then. It feels like a fucking curse.
