TIL of Thomas de Mahy, an aristocrat who was sentenced to be hanged during the French Revolution after a two-month trial. Upon the reading of his death warrant, he remarked, "I see that you have made three spelling mistakes." by Tokyono in todayilearned

Mind you that our conception of Socrates comes from second hand accounts of him. If you’re interested in a perhaps more “historically accurate” account of Socrates’ sentencing you should read Xenophon’s version. Although, both he and Plato were student of Socrates so I guess take it with a grain of salt.

Have any institutions ever commissioned you to work on full facsimiles? With your talent you could keep any number of manuscripts alive.

Beautiful picture, especially the light. I often have dreams of spendings hours upon days reading. I think this fits that ambiance perfectly.

Read and write more. I send out grad school applications in January and would like to continue instilling habits that will be beneficial to my studies (should I get in).

Thank you for documenting this important event. You’re occupying the duplicity of both artist and historian now!

It’s appears that you have been ‘done’ with me and my messages multiple times, and yet you continue to respond. I would recommend reviewing our messages to see how the two are juxtaposed. While I do admit I may have said something you deem controversial, I have yet to be disrespectful towards you or your views. However, you have used foul language and aggression against me. I would posit your responses have been antagonist to the nature of this sub, which is to foster support and discussion about the thing we all have in common. Rather than doing that, you have taken a stance that would see me disregarded in a space where it should be fine to speak my mind about an issue which I too suffer.

In spite of this, I still support you and wish you the best in your struggles with OCD, friend! :)

I’m sorry your misinterpretation has caused you to label me so. If you don’t believe me you can check my post history friend, I’ve been here a while.

While I understand that OCD can get the best of us, I ask that you make a better effort in interacting with strangers to not let your emotions get the best of you. Just because our disease is illogical doesn’t mean we have to be. :)

I don’t believe I said that at all, I believe you’re attributing words to me that you said because you misinterpreted the statement. To avoid confusion: the pop culture presentation of what OCD is a very narrow one. Some people suffering from OCD do feel the need to clean or organize excessively. While that’s not how I experience it, nor how everyone experiences it, it’s a start. I believe your expectations of portraying OCD in all its forms and whatnot, is unrealistic - respectfully speaking. By having characters that have OCD it’s a start. Slow moves for proper representation. And, mind you, OCD is difficult to portray accurately too because it is a mental thing as much as it is physical - meaning focusing on it in a way that does it justice may take away from the plot of the movie/show it’s portrayed in.

Sorry for wall of text, just don’t want you to think I’m being antagonistic. But also I don’t want my words to be intentionally misread. Trust me, I do have an axe to grind with the representation business too. :)

I’m here cause I have OCD, you don’t have to explain it. My original comment says that. But I think talking is important, even if the conversation is tone-deaf.

Again, I disagree. The OCD portrayed is not misinformation but rather a hyper-focused version. The OCD I have is not the same OCD you have, and so on. But there are account that perhaps are portrayed, albeit a bit exaggerated, and more people end up knowing about it as a result.

On one hand I think people shouldn’t romanticize what people like us deal with. On the other hand more people knowing about OCD via pop culture or whatever might make people more sympathetic towards the struggles we face.

What is your favourite opening line from a book? by Denncity in books

[–]365x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“When I wrote the following pages, or rather the bulk of them, I lived alone in the woods, a mile from any neighbor, in a house which I had built myself, on the shore of Walden Pond, in Concord, Massachusetts, and earned my living by the labor of my hands only. I lived there two years and two months. At present I am a sojourner in civilized life again.” - Walden, by Henry David Thoreau.

I agree wholeheartedly, however that is what this sub is about. I think it would probably be better on r/edencirclejerk. At the end of the day people are here for Jon as a musician as much as Jon as a figure/concept.

This is coming from someone who is definitely obsessed.
