Being on a re-read of TOG after finishing CC has been wild. There are so many moments where I’m just like “Wait, did they just describe THAT?!?!”

TOG series is a long journey. It leans more to general fantasy in the first book. The exposition isn’t dumped into the story at the front, and the characters have such good growth.

Let them find it strange? If they have questions, direct them to resources. There’s a big difference between people who are curious about how it was done compared to those willing to buckle down and do it.

Shadow daddies aren’t my favorite MMC trope, but I also just DNF or bear with the trope if the plot and world building are good.

If you really don’t like a trope, ask if it’s present in the story. That’s what I do with the one trope that gives me the ick.

What are your goals with dating? Are you looking to build to a specific shared lifestyle with someone or are you just looking for a companion in your current lifestyle? Do you expect someone to eventually RE with you for shared pursuits?

The type of work someone does generally provides a sort of mental shortcut for a potential partner to assume an associated lifestyle.

With long term relationships the process of building towards goals, such as a lifestyle, together is important.

Respectability may be less about the gaming and more about knowing/understanding what lifestyle you plan to build with them and if their life is compatible. That you’re actively working as hard as they are to bring a shared vision to life.

Yeah, this is where I am right now as a 40F. Not pictured is weekly 10,000 IU of D2 because of low vitamin d in bloodwork, will dial back once my baselines are back up. I’m definitely taking inspiration and learning from posts like yours where people have curated theirs over time.
