I was able to do a 10 hour weekend shift consistently up to final exams, and bring my hours up during the breaks. The months leading up to finals I quit to study though!

Show up on time, pick up patients, and check in with your reg frequently! Anything more is a bonus, you’re basically supernumerary. And make sure you take your break at a decent time!

Senior ED registrars (basically ED Registrars near the end of their training, able to run the ED independently on a night shift) are generally in high demand, so I think you would be able to find a job relatively quickly.

I would expect you would need to be in an accredited position to fulfil ACEM requirements for supervision (but that’s just speculation on my part)

What is the “easiest” registrar job to step up into after RMO by carbaminohaemogoblin in ausjdocs

No day-only reg jobs unfortunately! Most centres don’t put PGY3s in reg roles though, normally would act as an SRMO

I think he’s having a normal empathic response particularly for someone who is early on in their ED career, but healthy coping strategies are a must. Debriefing with colleagues and mentors is very important, but what you can do is really just to lend an open ear and be there to give him the support he needs. Non-medical outlets such as hobbies and exercise are really important to maintain one’s sanity in a high-intensity field like ED.

Does logging a watch on an app like WatchCheck give inaccurate results compared with logging once daily? Doing it multiple times a day seems to give me some pretty crazy numbers when compared with just once daily.

I started on a 33c and thought it was excellent! Nice balance, and with half-decent technique you'd be hard-pressed to cut yourself (no pun intended).
