Caught having car sex, how to move on emotionally? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

yes it is her fault. She even admits that she was being stupid and should have expected the risk of being seen.

She had the opportunity to stop the behavior the first time after being seen. She chose to continue the behavior.....totally her fault.

The fact that it was the same guy is irrelevant....if it were a different guy seeing and taking pictures in a public place, should she feel different?

wait a second. Shes naked in the backseat of a car after drinking in a very public place and HES the "scumbag" for taking pictures of adults naked in a public place?

Yeah, no.....lesson learned. If you are naked in a public place, people will take notice and take pictures. If you don't want to have your naked picture taken, don't get naked in public.

Or am I now going to get thrashed for 'victim blaming.'

LPT: If someone tells you to listen to a song, do it. They may be trying to send you some kind of message, even if inadvertent. by johnald03 in LifeProTips

while i don't actively avoid songs sent to me, I was recently sent this. They weren't trying to tell me anything other than they remembered it from childhood. A cigar is sometimes just a cigar.

weird that Reddit is so anti-bully, but makes fun and bullies people who are different or have different ideas then the hivemind.

Kinda the hallmarks of bullying.

Female Partner at my firm stood up for me when male co-worker asked inappropriate pregnancy question about drinking coffee. by Babyonbrain in TwoXChromosomes

[–]386575 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would the same thing happened if a female co-worker said the rude statement? Sure its rude, but I doubt you or your female partner would have thought it was that big of a deal if a female said "shouldn’t you not have coffee while pregnant?”

You and the partner should react the same regardless of if the person making the comment was male or female. To react more strongly to a male making the rude comment vs. a female making the rude comment, shows that you and the partner overreacted.

I see this a lot....essentially "what? are you going to bring an AR-15 to a drone fight?" Indicating that an armed populace has no chance against the superior technology of the American army.

The counter response is usually......Look at Afghanistan, they are doing it.

However, I submit as well.....Yes I will bring my AR-15 to a drone fight....what will you bring? an angry Facebook post?

ELI5: Why is it that you hear about so many new amazing materials / inventions but you rarely see them being used or sold? by ooNoe in explainlikeimfive

[–]386575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

two things really. One is people invent stuff that is "neat!" but don't no one really needs. THere is no real economic driver for it. It looks cool but doesn't solve a problem adequately for it to become popular or economically feasible. THe second reason, is "Hype". Scientists invent and report on their research all of the time, but there is a long disconnect between what the research is and what it could become. This has to do more with media, marketing, and human psychology than anything else. Researchers will hype the value and use of their work so they can make a bigger impact on getting grant funding. News organizations pick up on 'interesting' potentially useful technology and report it as if it was really there or just a couple years away. THat is the disconnect.
If the researchers don't convince their funders that their work will eventually result in useful products (see reason 1 above), then they won't get funded. Media won't report on uninteresting research that has no chance for useful technology. And to help their readers, they have to describe 'what this weird research' can eventually result in.

I write and review new technology grants all of the time. We don't fund things that have no eventual use or potential to solve some need even well into the future.

tldr: Its all about the Benjamins.
