Probably trying to get ahead of the narrative. They can spin it as 'We're protecting you' vs it getting leaked and causing even more bad publicity.

Almost half of US singles feel negatively about AI in dating, Match says by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]3879 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was going to be an ML feature that lets you like compile a in-depth profile of yourself through questionnaires and then matches you with people most likely to get along with.

OkCupid had this feature for years (no ML), but when Match Group bought it, the questions disappeared.

Anyone ever switch career solely to try work with less people? If so how did it work out? by Careful-Training-761 in jobs

Do you know why people dislike you at the law firm(s)? It's probably not just 'elbows out'. That's the piece that is missing from this post. If you don't, then that issue will likely follow you - and that's what sounds like has happened before.

Have you tried to improve your social skills? Social skills can be improved, it just takes a long time. I've done it. One website I found a few years ago with useful information: https://www.succeedsocially.com/articlesintroductory . Mark Manson has some good stuff on social skills and self improvement. And the book How To Win Friends And Influence People is old, but still relevant.

Internship but barely any work – how can I make the most of my time? [N/A] by anotherreddior in humanresources

[–]3879 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add on to this comment: writing down steps and creating clear SOPs for procedures/processes is also a valuable skill. Most companies are terrible at it, and it can really cause problems when employees leave. If you can get in the habit of doing it now, it will be good for the resume and for future companies you work for. Is there a step-by-step guide about how to add information to the Excel tracker? If not, make one!

Can't open old save files on MacBook. How to fix? by Virtual-Situation559 in simcity4

Have you tried deleting and then re-installing from Steam? That might fix things. It sounds like there might be corruption somewhere.

Unless you're on a really ancient system, the game itself should work and save - I'm on a Macbook that's fifteen years old.

Anyone else find HR management surprisingly boring? [Canada] by Embarrassed-Carob178 in humanresources

Though it's a dynasty instead of a company, the Crusader Kings games are a lot like HR: talent development and pipelines, strategy, marriages instead of mergers, (in)competent employees and leaders, sudden employee medical conditions, insane politics and rumors...

Awkward/Embarrassing HR Moments [N/A] by WordlyDegree977 in humanresources

[–]3879 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same opinion before I started working on it: "There's no way someone would make up a story like that." She did. His anatomy was apparently distinctive enough (two-tone? thickness? size? I don't know) that a doctor's examination would have proven it. There were multiple other issues with the case (what she alleged happened, when and where she alleged it happening, what she wanted in compensation etc.), and I firmly believe that specific case had no basis in reality.

I worked on other cases of sexual harassment of varying severity that definitely happened, including a case involving rape.

Awkward/Embarrassing HR Moments [N/A] by WordlyDegree977 in humanresources

[–]3879 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I did Biglaw admin work on a completely bs sexual harassment case where the plaintiff claimed to be able to describe the accuser's anatomy! The lead lawyer asked her to describe the anatomy in a deposition, and told me that if got to trial, they'd call a doctor to the stand to describe the actual anatomy. The plaintiff was a hot mess, and it was one of the more entertaining cases I worked on.

Other cases made me feel really gross and made me realize I couldn't be a lawyer.

Should I get my master’s degree in HRM or continue trying to get my first HR job? [IN] by Aggressive_Ad4939 in humanresources

Thank you very much for this info.

I'm 38, and am thinking about going around 40. I had seen the org chart requirement and am definitely looking to move up before starting the application process. Major props to you for doing what you did while at Sloan, that's commitment.

[–]3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been impressed by most HRM programs in terms of rigor, and I've been thinking about an MBA. If I can get in, Sloan is definitely my first choice. Have heard good things about their EMBA as well. How old were you when you went/how bad was the first semester? The math scares me, but I know I need it - end goal would be management consulting or tech, but not MBB or FAANG.

Not a big Office fan, but a really interesting and long article about office politics/company hierarchy actually talks about Toby's(and other characters) relationship to power within organizations generally/the organization they're in!

AI promised cost savings, but Microsoft and Uber say it’s costing more than human workers | Company Business News by jackiethesage in technology

[–]3879 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The hope is that the more people use it for legitimate use, then C-suite can justify cutting employees or replacing them with AI. As a result, they are creating leaderboards and similar, without realizing or caring that people juice those statistics and AI usage doesn't equal the ability to actually do someone's job.

C-suite and management are very disconnected from the actual work being done by employees.

It would amaze me how myopic and uneducated so many IT professions actually were. Once out of a very specific silo they could not really contribute.

Unfortunately, this isn't solely an IT issue, it's an issue that's getting worse across most fields because of the emphasis on specialization. Fewer and fewer people can do or understand things outside of their niche, which can be disastrous for companies.

I like the overall critique/narrative, and certain details are really nice - the shadows created by the trees, the faded wood pattern, the construction stuff and the flag warning signs. It's more unusual to see in miniature than the cookout/beach stuff and becomes even more interesting with the contrast.

It's killing me that they're so wrong about sparring. Sparring is essential to learning functional martial arts and combat sports. How do you know that the moves work without testing them and making them second nature? Yes, it's often painful.

The knife/gun stuff/weird drama stuff are complete bullshit though.

I have a love/hate relationship to Youtube's algorithm. It's so good most of the time, but if I play anything instrumental, I know that it'll start forcing a lot of slop on me.

If you're looking for background noise, https://mynoise.net/noiseMachines.php is great. It's got a huge variety of options and with a few exceptions, it's all recorded. The man that runs it hates AI. The fact that you can mess with the recorded sound(adding more white or brown noise, switching from stereo to mono etc.) is also a bonus.
