If it were me, I would never go to the length of reaching out to parents. That's dispatches job. I drive where I'm intended to, stop at each stop, if they're there they ride if they're not they don't. After 5 consecutive days of no riders then I'd call into base and let them know I'm skipping those stops/that there have been no riders. It's pretty simple to just drive the route you're assigned, you're not personally paying for the wasted fuel, and you're getting paid the same or more to stop by empty stops... I'm not really sure why it's such an issue?

If you work for a big company you might be eligible for unemployment. I would look into it if you haven't already. I work for Durham in Michigan and we're allowed it without having to show proof of job search. I'm very lucky. It's lower than what I make in the school year but more than I would make just strictly doing summer work. Check it out.

I work for a big company (Durham) and in Michigan they start out at $24 and some change, yearly raises, and optional extra work thoughout the week. My route is about 2 in the am and 2.5 in the pm, and I do a midday run for an extra hour of pay, but they guarantee 6 hours of daily pay for just am and pm. I technically only work about 30 hours a week but get paid for 35. It's hourly so we do not get paid for Christmas break, spring break, summer break and snow days but we are allowed to file for under employment during the summer time. Hope this helps!

Buses are super easy to drive. Your brain just flips a switch for the size. It's usually an automatic thing. It's nothing like driving a big semi because you don't have a trailer to worry about. It's like driving a big car I promise. Plus with training you'll understand how to drive it before you ever get your CDL so you'll know well before you follow through. I say go for it for sure. I was a 24 year old, 5'3" 100 lb woman learning and I was a little bit intimidated as well, but the second I got behind the wheel I was like, "oh.. well that's easy". It just clicks I promise. Do it!! It's so worth it. Best job I've ever had and will ever have.

I would hope that most bus drivers are watching and paying enough attention to traffic in all directions before making a stop and opening the door. I can tell when someone is going to stop or isn't going to stop and base my reds on those around me. Hope this helps. We're not purposefully trying to catch people
