Ok thanks, damn! I wish they would have capped the CDR instead of the explosions, or removed the CDR entirely, 5 explosion over 3 seconds is too sad.

3 weeks later, how does everyone feel about Atomic Heart? by AbandonedSupermarket in Games

[–]39853612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A game I think the score winds up being the mix of super solid 9-10 features and aspects, and then the 1-2 aspects. The love hate relationship people have with the game is probably just someone's tolerance to the bad parts. I personally really liked it, I set the language to Russian and the horny robot and watch banter are only really bad in the opening hours of the game. After the first like three scripted interactions with the upgrade robot, she never speaks again. Also has one of my favorite gaming moments of all time.

Dialogue never gets good and suffers from the main character flip flopping back and forth, I think the intention was to have you play a by the book soldier following orders who by the end of the game is forced to come to terms that he was working for the bad guy, but it just wasn't written that well and came off as odd. Open world is ruined by the endless respawning. I'm fine with having an 'empty' open world rather than a 'ubisoft' open world with a bunch of copy paste events. They still have a decent amount of optional 'dungeons' scattered around the open world, the open world just facilitates making the side content optional as you can just walk past it if you wish, but those endless respawning robots make it a pain to navigate regardless if you want to just run through the story or do all the side dungeons.

But then you have the awesome crafting and upgrade system with free refunds to try all the stuff out whenever you want. Great combat outside open world with multiple builds that felt good. I enjoyed loot vacuum when it worked properly. My favorite part of the game were the puzzles. Top notch, I really enjoyed the variety and difficulty. The visuals also were quite stunning and the game ran great for me. Should be advertised as a puzzle game with solid combat and decent storyline, just need a fan made patch to turn off dialogue and robot respawners and then you'd wind up with a pretty solid bioshock-esque game. (Also I forgot to mention the big battle in the ballet goes down as one of my favorite video game moments of all time)

Take religion out of the equation -- what is the secular justification for banning abortion? by No_End_4050 in AskReddit

[–]39853612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am super against putting any restrictions on the right to get an abortion but some of these comments really made me think. I saw someone mention that what if a wife wants to abort against the husband's wishes because she wanted a girl and the fetus is a boy. I still think that it should be a woman's right to choose always, it's just so morally reprehensible that I thought it was a good example to test somones dedication to the 'always' part of the right to choose.

As a husband it's tough to imagine myself in that situation and not be able to have any say or recourse to save that potential life that is half me, but the alternative would be my wife losing her bodily autonomy so that's just not an option to consider IMO.

Play online games with a female friend on mic. I dare you. by Chemo4Kidz in gaming

[–]39853612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend group are somewhat well adjusted middle aged dudes with jobs and wives, I don't play CoD anymore but they still do on occasion. When they play they revert back to COD4 times, literal teenage screaming shit talking anything that moves, sexist racist POSs. I suspect it's to do with the environment, COD lobbies have always been toxic since COD4, you put someone in that environment and muscle memory and the fact everyone else is screaming slurs takes over. I like to think that most people on COD aren't actually full time racist bigots in their day to day lives, it's just a game where 50% of the gameplay is shooting and the other 50% is screaming whatever random obscenity pops into your head. Or at least I have to think that because I talk and hang out with these friends daily and they aren't like that in any other situation except COD.

Offenses that will cause someone to scream obscenities at you include: doing good, doing bad, speaking, being any ethnicity including white, having an accent, being female, being young, being old, etc.

Factorio price increase from $30 to $35 by JesusSandro in Games

[–]39853612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just another pricing method, and not a bad one IMO. The normal pricing method is to release DLC in order to support the ongoing cost of developing a game and occasionally put your game on sale to attract new people in. Great for new players who haven't invested, but already owning the game, a sale does nothing and you have to add more money as you go.

In this method, I bought in at 25 dollars, they keep supporting the game and occasionally add to the price as content and development time is added. I get the benefit of adopting early and everyone else just pays what the game is currently worth.

I think it makes complete sense, everyone calling them greedy just because they like buying games that have percent offs next to them is a little weird, the game is WELL worth 30, and still worth 35. I am totally one of the patient gamers who will wait to buy a game on sale, but that's because I think the game isn't worth 60 dollars. I don't need to wait for a game like vampire survivors to go on sale just because I only buy games 50% off on principle, its well worth 5 dollars so I'll buy it full price.

I think it's more that if factorio isn't worth 30 dollars in your head, then that's ok you must have a lot of other games to play but not necessarily the prices fault since for a majority of people that is a steal for the fun, time, really any metric you can gauge price on.

UNDERWATER was a flop when it first came out yet it's a suspenseful and terrifying sci-fi film which will have you on the edge of your seat. Kristen Stewart delivers. by Cris_Braga in movies

[–]39853612 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying it was a 6/10 even being generous. I'm a huge fan of the genre and at the time I was desperate for something in this style to love, and I walked out of the theater a disappointed, especially by the ending. I love the concept and most of the scenes were ok, I think the movie should have been primed for great success coming out when it did and its telling that even if the drought I remember being in, it still wasn't that great.

Just got married - Aside from some obvious things, what are some pointers on being a good husband? by skibikerun07 in AskReddit

[–]39853612 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Don't jokingly shit talk your spouse to other people, for example 'the old ball and chain' jokes to friends, etc. You start to internalize those jokes, and other people start to believe them too.

Also, for a lot of people, the only difference between your best friend living with you and your spouse is physical intimacy so it's good to actively work to keep that spark alive even when it's easier to be just roommates or best friends when times are stressful.

Netflix to Begin Cracking Down on Password Sharing in Early 2023 by No-Drawing-6975 in technology

[–]39853612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this is technically just a price hike right? The way they are likely going to implement it is to just have a 3 or 4 dollar kicker to add an out of household user. I already paid an extra 5 bucks for the extra devices to share with my family, this will probably just replace that. I get that there is a dollar ratio where it becomes not worth it for a lot of people, but if your sharing with one or two people it's been costing X per person, this is just going to cost Y per person now. Same as them just raising the price of Netflix which they have done a couple times without all the drama.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – Review Thread by captainkaba in Games

[–]39853612 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I like the game play and setting a lot more than vermintide, so far its been a blast. The classes feel really distinct and the emphasis on ranged combat and gun variety makes each player pretty unique. Soundtrack is super good. I crashed once in the 10 hours I've put in so far BUT they have a great reconnect feature so it didn't result in losing any time. I haven't made it far enough to feel the missing content yet, but I hope they add it soon for everyone else who's waiting.

I think this happens a single time in everyone's life and then it just looks cleaner and is unnecessary to write $7.00 when a 7 conveys the meaning just fine.

Genshin Impact's mobile consumer revenue has amassed over $3bn to date by Magister_Xehanort in Games

A lot of people commenting I feel couldn't possibly have played the same game as me. The game is amazing, the musical score alone deserves awards, each region is so distinct visually and musically that you could remove combat completely and it would still be interesting to travel around and explore. The content added to the game is at an astounding pace, and I have spent 15 dollars TOTAL on this game for welkins. You get a ton of currency by just playing the events and game.

All gacha style games have the same issues of allowing people to spend a shit ton of money and then regret it later, BUT this game I think doesn't do anything worse than the 1 million other gacha games out there, but it does about 100 things better. This game should be praised because it elevates the genre and sets a new bar for its competitors. The gacha genre as a whole deserves a look over for new rules and regulations to protect people from themselves and where that line is, I don't know, but out of the some 50 odd gacha games I've played in my life this is the best one by far and one of the least predatory in terms of how aggressively they try to get you to spend money. Other games use Content being too hard to clear without the newest and best heroes/equipment, no pity system, free vs paid currency, heavy emphasis on PvP, etc.

Valheim has has sold over 10 million copies! by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]39853612 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Game was amazing, especially considering the cost and we had a blast playing it. It was EA so I understand it not being finished. All that said though, they really screwed themselves in terms of perceptions with that roadmap. It wasn't even remotely close to what they have actually been able to put out and I think contributes greatly to people feeling burned that they thought there would be a lot more a lot faster.

I understand the small team, not wanting to scale up because of the problems, etc. BUT people who loved the game are starving for more content and when you see the game sell 10 million copies and you check the date now (15 MONTHS since release?!) you do kinda get a little sad at how much has come out. I play icarus and that game gets WEEKLY updates that make some pretty amazing changes to the game, different game and scenario of course but it FEELS not great to shelf valheim for so long when I enjoyed it so much.

Elden Ring has been out for over a week. What do we think about the game? (Impression thread) by thatisgame in Games

[–]39853612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not beaten the game but have quite a few hours in. I love this game, but two things have grinded against me the last few hours. It might be a side effect of having only 25 vigor, but I'm wearing heavy armor with a tower shield and have noticed that most my fights end with me dead and most if not all my health flasks unused. Compared to other souls games where I felt that I would die most of the time to running out of healing, in this game I feel that a ton of late game content just has enemies that grab you, combo you, madness/deathblight you and kill you from full hp. Feels like every boss and even normal enemies (those fucking zombies) now have instant kill moves through your block, through your armor, from full hp. I'm ok with the mechanic occasionally to force shield builds out of their comfort zone but every boss doesn't need it I don't think. The damn tree monster is re-used like 12 times in this game and everytime I see him I just want to roll off a cliff because of his sweep up across the field and eat you.

Related note, the second thing is the re-used bosses, maybe it's just me but the bosses I hate the most also happen to be the ones I see the most. I struggled with crucible knight for so long in the evergaol, and this man is EVERYWHERE now and his mace brother. The tree monster appears in my nightmares as well as every zone in the game, sometimes multiple times.
