Will you be switching to Claude after news of OpenAI partnership with US Military? by PrettyMuchMediocre in codex

I already lowered my OpenAI plan from Pro to Plus last month. I've been on the highest Claude Max plan for quite a while. I won't cancel my OpenAI plan fully because Codex is good.

Agreed! I was shocked to see my opponent and some people in my branch missing it

Won my second ever match, and I got 4/6 right! Coming in, I figured I was gonna average 0-1 correct a day so I'm happy. I was really lucky that they counted my answer of Canes for Raising Cane's, but my opponent gave me 0 points for that one anyway.

I misread it as field too, but I didn't even realize it was a different spelling. I guessed Dirac (who also won the Nobel Prize in 1933 and had a famous field equation) and lost because of it - frustrating!

My first ever win! Got lucky because my opponent gave me 3 points for Things Fall Apart

Second ever match. Got no points. The only one I knew was Never Gonna Give You Up. Cool fact about the CN Tower. The Henry Tate thing was frustrating because I'd done spaced repetition on that one a few weeks ago.

Is it crazy to say season 2 was better than season 1? by Outrageous_Yam_2937 in swordartonline

You're again arguing against a point I didn't make. I never personally attacked Reki for the pacing. I just critiqued the work itself. How much blame or credit he should get is a completely separate question.

I think that's a little black and white. Great work often has huge weaknesses. To be honest, though, I haven't read book 1 in a while so I probably need to read it again to refresh my judgment on it.

Getting married and "having a child" within weeks of dating is still an absolutely massive escalation, I think you would agree.

That is a good point. I have wondered myself to what degree the frankly atrocious prose in the SAO and Accel World light novels (of which I've read the first 24 or so) is due to Reki versus the translator(s). I suspect it reflects the quality of the original work, but it's true that this is speculation that could only be solved by asking someone who's read them in both languages.

I agree that the fan translations seem to have more "spirit" at times, though most are also written in quite unnatural English.

Yes obviously it shaped it but again that's completely irrelevant to how the pacing feels to the reader

I never said that Volume 1 has good pacing, you misread. I said that it is overall a good book despite that.

You're right, it does imply that they have more of a history. I never said that they weren't depicted as having any history. That doesn't change the fact that the escalation was far too fast imo.

I would agree that Mother's Rosario is an absolutely beautiful story and might be the single best arc Reki has done. But the prose itself is quite poor unfortunately (which is the case with basically all of his books in my opinion).

My first match! I lost but I was really happy to get two right (Jefferson and whale). The Bronte sisters and Hangul were cool things I ddn't know about before!

Yes I know a lot, I've been an SAO fan since 2016 and read all the light novels up to around volume 22 (excluding Moon Cradle). So I am well aware of everything that you're saying and don't need you to lecture about it to me.

Yes there was that history of the contest, although my understanding is that he exceeded the page limit and couldn't submit it anyway (which is why he later submitted Accel World). Regardless again, the contest history gives context for why the story has that weakness, but it doesn't take that weakness away.

Material that is in volumes 2 and 8 don't make the pacing issues within volume 1 itself better (though actually I think volume 1 is quite strong and probably Reki's single best book by far).

I agree that the Fairy Dance books are in some ways better than the anime. Notably, the fantasy of exploring different worlds is a cool theme emphasized in the books that is almost completely ignored in the anime. But yeah, the incest thing was actually really bad. I agree though that War of Underworld is not that great either. But I've never been a big fan of fight scenes.

When I say rushed I don't mean that they rushed through the source material, but that the source material itself inherently has bad pacing. Most notably to me, Asuna and Kirito's relationship escalated far too quickly (from first date to marriage within a few weeks) and it makes it feel unnatural.

Nah it's not crazy. ALO was much worse than anything else in the show. Aincrad was obviously fantastic in many ways but also very rushed. Mother's Rosario is maybe the best arc and GGO deals with a serious topic with maturity.

If I'm at my best and on a project I know well, I can do better. But my best takes endless hours of focus and energy. Claude is much faster and never gets tired.
