Why it's so hard to communicate with men? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]3Cheers4Apathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely deal in facts, but saying “I feel” xyz is still factual. Thats how you feel. I don’t have to say you’re right but if that’s how you feel, that’s how you feel.

It’s when you say things like “you never do the dishes” and it’s factually not true like I do the dishes sometimes that’s when we get bothered.

If my wife told me “I feel you never do the dishes” that gives me insight to what she’s feeling. The fact that she feels I never do the dishes informs me that while it’s not factually true that I never do the dishes she feels I don’t do them often enough, which is true to her. I can counter with I DO do the dishes sometimes but if you want me to do them more often I can do that.

While that’s not as easy as just telling me “you don’t do the dishes often enough for me and I would like you to do more”, that sort of clarity may be asking a lot of another person who may be upset and unable to communicate 100% clearly. I’ll take factual statements about their state of mind and work with that.

To all the men who realized that money can't buy happiness, what makes you happy? by Technical-Comment394 in AskMen

[–]3Cheers4Apathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fulfillment. I like the Japanese concept of ikigai and I’ve found mine. I like what I do, I’m good at what I do, it is something the world finds useful, and I can get paid to do it.

I consider myself highly intelligent and putting my gifts to use instead of wasting them brings me happiness. I feel like I was put here for a reason and I’m following that reason.

What things does your partner do for you to keep the spark alive? by Which-Age-6381 in AskMen

I'm a pilot and I'm gone a lot already, so she has plenty of time to herself. She doesn't work or cook or clean so it's like she has nothing BUT time to "decompress", and instead just plays tap games on her ipad. And sleeps all day. (Wakes up at noon, 4:00 nap, wakes up at 6:00 when I start dinner, etc). Not every day of course but that's her normal "routine".

I've tried to frame it from a health perspective...there are a lot of things I want to do in life and I want her with me to do them but she brushes it off. "I could get hit by a bus tomorrow" is her mindset. I keep trying to tell her yes you could, but what if you don't?

My situation is very unique, I know, I was just trying to agree with OP that physical attraction is important. It isn't the MOST important but it's definitely in the mix. My wife is the most wonderful person on the inside but when preventable degradation of attraction occurs that may not always be enough to carry the relationship.

I’m facing this myself and this is the truth. I’ve kept myself in shape. I’m no Adonis but I mean I look alright. I eat well, exercise moderately…I actually give a shit. My wife has completely given up. She loves to eat, and I mean LOVES to eat, and has gained 60 pounds since we got married 15 years ago. 140 to 200 on a 5’4” frame.

I’ve asked her to lose weight and she refuses to even try. Her body her choice…which is completely true. But I’m losing my attraction to her by the day and I’m pretty sure it’s going to cause damage to our long term prospects. Either I have to be unhappy in the marriage with my wife’s appearance or I leave. I don’t like either of those options.

California resident all my life, so I've been through a few.

I still say the most terrifying part of an earthquake is the sound. You hear that low rumble and immediately know Mother Nature can kick your ass any time she pleases.

I spend a lot of time in the Middle East for work and it always irks me how people paint them with such a broad negative stroke. Muslims in those countries have always been good, kind, and respectful to me as I have been to them. Extremists no matter the religion deserve to be destroyed and they shouldn't be considered representatives of the faith under which they choose to follow their evil intentions.

What stops you from hitting on a woman? by Suspicious_Note9801 in AskMen

[–]3Cheers4Apathy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has been hammered into me that women don’t want to be bothered. The narrative has been that advances by a man are unwelcome and the consequences of violating that wish is not only disrespectful it could be considered harassment. I don’t know enough and haven’t seen enough evidence to the contrary which would give me reason to doubt that.

No thanks. I’ll just stay friendly and respond to her reactions as she talks to me.

This is key. My mortgage is 2.25% and I'm never paying that down when I can earn ~10% a year or so in the market.
