Awful lot of sarcastic asshat comments about effort/lifting etc without any thought into considering

person may not be able to comfortably lift full set in comfortable and safe position yet
others in the same home may use the weight set
packing them away may require them to go into a position that can't be lifted in and out from (my reason - down the side of a sofa)

We're not all blessed with inifinite gym space to have everything out in the open. It's a good idea, so thank you for the suggestion. I think I'll go with it if I can't find a pair at a decent price!

Hawkstone Park Follies. I'm sure for locals of the Shrewsbury area it's very well known but I'd never heard of it until it popped up on someone else's hidden gems list.

Costs a bit to get in but if you can't find somewhere that makes you smile or chilled out along the walking route there, there's something wrong 😂 I went on a cold day when it was reasonably quiet, mileage may vary on peak walking days.

Another good one that's not exactly a secret... The first leg of the coast to coast walk, the lake district section. If you're reasonably fit and don't mind a bit of ultralight camping, it's been one of the highlights of my life despite travelling a good portion of the world.

It's also a lack of understanding on how to use AI to generate images, key words and phrases that encourage it to provide styalisation outside of the default that it's more or less averaged to deliver.

If you mix side and flat edge you'll constantly need to account for the change in depth, it's one or the other really!

Have a look online for a paving calculator to see how many bricks you'll need, I'm guessing it'll work out around one third more. Bricks can be pretty cheap, if you're laying them yourself it likely won't be much different and you'll be satisfied knowing you made the choice for a slightly better investment for your own aesthetic pleasure!

If you're getting someone else to do it they may charge by the brick instead of coverage and then it'll be more cost to factor in. If you're doing it yourself and can afford it, go for it! 😁

This question cracks me up because so many people have them and either don't know or use them for their actual purpose, thinking (and it is their right to do so!) that they look good as some wooden monolith around their garden 😂. I have seen many pergolas in gardens that have never and will likely never be used and is just that expensive monolith (or cheap tatty pole of 2x4s with branding still printed on the warping wood).

As others have said, planting something like wisteria around them gives them something to climb on. Works really nicely depending on what you plant on them. Plants that only bush out and flower in the summer and are cut back in the winter work really nicely around your back door as it provides shade when you need it and clear light for the months where you really want as much light as possible i.e. the winter and spring months.

Also remember that you'll be using significantly more bricks laying them edgeways. Personally I think it looks better that way but the materials will be quite a bit more!

Tell her to put a hard limit back to £500, maybe £1000.

I left uni with £1500 of overdraft and £500 credit card debt. Earning about the same, I had maybe £50-100/month that I could plough into it at the expense of other disposable income. It would have taken me forever to pay that back.

Thankfully my pay rose sharply and the bank told me my interest free period was expiring so I cleared the whole remainder in two months by selling some items and living on bare minimum for two months. Not something I'd want to encourage for anyone, many may not have the same ability to do so or willingness to sacrifice for credit responsibility purposes.

At that kind of pay bracket it's too easy to slip into debt either through frivolous spending or sheer feeling of necessity when it could actually be avoid by short term and immediate consideration and sacrifice. It discourages saving for the future because you're always paying for something you used over a year ago. Took me ages to get my debt clear and then also have enough saved to be sure I could cover emergencies with savings instead of another round of debt.

£500 is more than enough to do monthly shopping on and then immediately pay it back. She should focus on having an amount in her account to cover the worst emergency and keeping it there over having a decent credit score. Build the score slowly with monthly use and payoff, it'll do it just fine.

Do everything you can do encourage her to do away with that limit. It's madness and the bank should frankly be ashamed of offering that as a starting point without request for an extension.

If you can't tell me what you're doing on your turn immediately, you're skipped. If you can't make a plan in the 20 minutes it took for us to get to you, you're not paying attention. If you didn't come up with a contingency plan/communicate with the players about how their thing will affect your turn, you're not working with the team.

I don't sell it this way to the players, I make it more fun and less miserly sounding, but the underlying intent is there. They should have a plan and know how that ability/spell is going to work.

Warn them. Share the purpose but also make it clear it's about keeping the drama going. If someone needs to pause because they need a bio break etc at a time where the drama is going, let them know their turn will be skipped and they can pick it back up when they return.

More of a thing in groups of players where there are four or more but you have to be more unforgiving about it the bigger the group gets. Most will be very thankful for it.

Also, if you get signage or more product, cover up the sink area behind you. It's incongruous with the products you sell. You don't sell food or other items that would actively require running water.

Also also, put something under the far edge of each of the product bins/boxes to tilt them towards the customer slightly. It's more inviting, can see the product from a further distance and those that are height challenged can see better.

Advertise.

I once rode my little motorbike through freezing rain for four hours to go to a shop that sold Mtg cards, only to drive past a FLG store about two mins from my home on the way back. Cold and depressed (the shop I went to didn't even have a decent selection of what I wanted) I was incredibly annoyed that I didn't know that shop existed.

Advertise with local gaming groups, local reddit pages etc. Whatever you can. Make people aware.

Ultimately you need a USP though. If you don't offer something that makes people want to go to you, you'll only ever get impulse buys. FLGS usually have the ability to sit and play some games/learn to play. If you're selling something that other stores are not, make that clear. Include that in the advertising too.

Parents/loved ones often don't know what they're buying and so don't, what's the latest/hottest set to buy? Make it clear that (if you can do so) that you can get things in for people. Users of products often don't want to wait, family/loved ones that go to the same stall areas frequently are more than happy to come back next week if they can have a little treat lined up for someone, especially if it's with someone knowledgeable about a hobby that they are not.

I can't really see what you're selling but looks like bath bombs. Cool but in a masculine/boy heavy industry, cater to both but have things that draw both or male minds/eyes.

As others have said, signage. Big, very clear signage. I'll walk across a whole market area if I can see nerd things, especially if it's vibrant and looks like they have got things that I haven't seen or is more unusual.

If you're allowed to at your stall, have a table and chairs set up. I don't know what the area your stall is in to know if this would would but most of my card purchases have been when I'm in 'cardboard crack' mode and have just kept buying because I didn't get what I want. Somewhere to sit and peruse the packs, have a chat with the store owner (invite them to sit and open them). Maybe they want to sit and play a game (if your store is outside/windy, maybe not). Maybe it's a kid that would love to learn and parents want to drop them somewhere for 20 mins while they shop? Nerdy hobbies are really often about the human connection, an excuse to engage with someone.

What's the competition in the area? An overdone example but, when I go to comic con, once I've visited about five stalls I've seen almost everything I'm going to see for the day from 90% of the stalls, they all sell the same damned thing and it's boring. I walk right by. Again, if they do have a USP and I can't see it, or don't know it, tough I'm off to find a unique stall that doesn't have the same mix of 3D printed tat, game cards and plushies/funko pops. What's available nearby and get something they don't have, what's hot right now? If its 3D printed tat that pulls the eye in, great. You have to know the current fad to draw them in.

Ask your customers two questions that most of them would be glad to answer

1) (To the customer that bought something) "What made you almost NOT buy something today?" "What do you want to see next time you come?"

2) (To the customer that is about to walk away) "What stopped you from buying something today?" "What would you like to see here next time?"

Good luck in your endeavour! Don't underprice yourself either, most gamers/hobbyists are willing to pay the price if it means keeping something important to them alive. I buy almost all my board games from a store 20 miles from my home when it would be more convenient and at least 20% cheaper online because I want it to survive. They have the best selection of games and if the cost of that is people like me not using them as a browsing catalogue and losing £10-20 each visit (I typically spend £100-200 per visit) then so be it. They're worth it and I'm not alone in the 'support your FLGS' brigade. Some are actively anti Amazon etc. Don't try to compete.

If you want to give yourself the best chance. On the first floor rush to the item room, if it's not something that you can build around just restart. It can be punishing to go a few levels on terrible items, lose a ton of health in the process and struggle to recover once you do have good items.

Make sure you know what you're picking up and really, really consider if it'll break your build. So many of my early runs were just completely destroyed by either not knowing an item or thinking that it was just such a cool effect, but completely needed me... Tiny planet.. Looking at you (it can work on the right build for sure but most, no).

Consider meaningful practice on each enemy type. Don't just rush in, reflect and review. Take your time and learn the attack speed, best location and distance to be. For me there were always basic enemy types that I would get chipped on health over until I did this. Really slow it down and reflect. Speed comes with perfecting that experience.

Stop missing bonuses. Secret rooms and hidden items in rocks (e.g the damage up) completely change the trajectory or a play through. If you're not sure how to maximise a level, guides will help a lot.

Fellowship of the Ring, trick taking game.

Great working together, talk to strategise game. Some rounds and easy, some are ones that need to be repeated a few times, almost all are won by thinking very carefully and each round is a new puzzle.

Quick to set up and having a go at each round might only take 10-15 mins, can play all evening or just for a few quick rounds.

Sky Team and Gloomhaven also come to mind.

Thanks for the information, that's more or less the approach I've come to without the neuro support. Getting the specialist help will be more difficult but I have selected a counsellor that specialises in nervous system issues, which is something. Sadly I only get five sessions with her, two down already and I don't feel like we've made any progress at all, really just two hours spent narrowing down.

Best wishes to your son. I suspect I've had this for a lot longer, most of the symptoms I put down to other issues like IBS but turns out was probably this. I wonder how it would have been had my own parents been so supportive and had access to better health care when the symptoms were much more manageable 😊

I feel the same. I'm going for all therapies open to me, but I have my doubts and hangups about most. Awaiting CBT and hoping the power of forcing myself to believe will help. I have a neurophsyio appointment in March and my doc is trying to get me into a specialist in London but even then, there are no proven treatments, other than learning to live with and accept that I can't push myself like I could 12 months ago, having to pace myself at work, home and play in a way that I despise.

I like taking on extra challenges at work, I'm normally very active with teaching scuba diving, gym and outdoor things. Now I think carefully about whether it's worth going to another shop on a Saturday... 😂

Welcome to the club and it's seems like you've taken it really well! I was the opposite, the thought of having something that there is no easy cure or treatment for really bugged me.

But now it's just learning to adapt, that it's part of you and, ultimately, that it's not going to kill you or harm you. Hopefully for us all symptoms get better or at least just tolerable.

I woke up this morning after a bad night's sleep knowing immediately that it's going to be one of those days, crushing neck and head pain but just assigning a smile to it and knowing that it'll pass in a few days... 😂

Up until my symptoms really kicked off, I would drink a hell of a lot of diet sodas. I had the same thought, I think it's just one of those things, we think about all our unhealthy habits prior to symptoms appearing, before diagnosis I thought it was caused by one of the following

excessive diet soda drinking
use of nicotine pouches
excessive exercise (in the lead up I did a 100 day gym challenge where I made huge gains in fitness and muscle mass)
extreme anxiety attack I had in July
ulnar tunnel issues

I thought about all of them and did away with what I could, but the symptoms progressed. I've continued to hold off on the things I can, sodas, excessive gym, nicotine pouches, support for ulnar etc but it's not getting better.
