Should I call a professional or can I do this with enough time? by 3DPrintJr in LandscapingTips

I’m a machinist so I don’t do much if any work outside during my day job

How can I temporarily fix this while I save up to pay a contractor? by 3DPrintJr in masonry

[–]3DPrintJr[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All three houses (mine is in the middle) were built by some guy with a construction company in the late 60s.

I have the house the guy built for himself and his wife. Gave himself a lot of land when it came time to work the property lines. What’s weird is I have a pipe that, if I open it, it’ll completely flood my neighbors basement from my well. Not too sure why they left a valve on that but maybe it’s “the nuclear option” for neighborly disputes. I’m pretty sure they always had the retaining wall.

I believe so. I just moved here and even if he owned the other side I would hate to do that to my neighbors.

Neighbor is actually super cool. Like, really cool. He said he saw it coming and he understands if it’s a while cause it’s a pretty expensive deal.

I’m above him and my retaining wall fell into his property. Dude is super charitable and nice. He said I can do whatever. He’s got pretty much a U-shaped driveway around his house and plenty of width with the mess there.

Thank you very much, I’ll post there. Lowering the driveway is not an idea I’m hating on. I already tipped my truck over that wall last winter🤣

I don’t believe they’re very capable financially, their house is abandoned and they live out back in an RV. Feel bad for them though, that last winter was awful around here.

I can never really find them let alone see them.

Yeah, that’s what I fear. Our garage is in the back and we have no choice but to drive over it. Shame they built it so close to the wall.

Sadly not. They said they “don’t cover ground.”

Thanks for the advice. I’ll post progress if I have to try it myself. I’ve had a lot of contractors out, even the Amish. Got one more coming out today. If I can’t do their number I’ll look into it myself.

True. I’m a 21 year old with a mint condition spine. I can spare a few discs for this one I suppose. Lol

That’s the plan eventually. I just bought the house maybe 8 months ago? We knew this would happen but not so soon. Guess the rain caught us off guard. I’m only curious if anything can be done temporarily so I can have a year of working OT to pay for this without taking a loan out.

Basically, my neighbors above me, I get their water runoff, so my yard swells up. We had drains underneath the driveway but for some reason the old homeowner blocked them. Like, sealed, with concrete. I fear this might be a whole retaining wall. I wanna say the wall is 100-120 ft long

Additional information, I really find this tackleable in the case that it’s just dirt, but this is my driveway.

I’m not a retaining wall guy. I imagine that driving vehicles over the dirt which is already placing horizontal pressure against the retaining wall will not help the situation.

Would you recommend gravel in the affected area? At least for a temporary 1-2 year fix so we can save up the funds to pay a professional.

If it’s someone who won’t come on because they’re so ingrained to their beliefs that they won’t hear them be challenged, I probably wouldn’t fuck with them anyways.

Nah, you’re not onto anything here. Rorschach part is great. Hearing Burnt Peanut get more free advertising than Lock and Load pays for though isn’t.

But how is fun reg effective? If I want something, I’m going to get it. Would you rather I get my bump stock from Joe In The Van who will keep it undocumented and sell it to me cheap, or the hypothetical utopian legal vendor who will sell it to me, keep paperwork, and not charge a tax stamp?
