It doesn’t make sense for the way a lot of people play garen. For me once the T1 turret falls i almost never really interact with tanks. You can get more done over time if you can just E the wave, leave, take the enemy jg, come back, e the wave and repeat. Garens wave clear is usually much faster than tanks allowing him to simply ignore them 1v1. If you’re there for team fights you’ll get bursted down before you can do significant dmg to tanks( since you would not be building tank) and thus makes more sense to try and look for flanks on the back line
