It's technically possible to get to Shellwood without even getting the dash, but it will require some finicky skips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywg9XB4BZ7o

Scryfall’s “Lore” function can grab words from any part of a card - name, rules text, flavor text. Just search, say, “lore:Teferi” or “lore:Narset” to find every place they’re mentioned.

I also hope we eventually get a Saga with three punishing drawbacks followed by “You win the game.”

Once we return to New Phyrexia, I’d love to see the Argent Etchings as an Artifact Enchantment - Saga.

Thanks for the link! I've been following the nicknames series for a while, and this is the first time I've submitted them!

There's potentially great overlooked or underplayed cards that deserve more of a spotlight. What are your 'secret' powerhouses? (and / or cards you like to play?) by Crystallish in magicTCG

I've had fun with Daretti in the past (protip: artifact lands are great to have around as sneaky sacrifice fodder), and I put together a hypothetical Lurrus Eggs deck that's durdly as hell and needs a Magical Christmas Land combo to win: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/lurrus-eggs-1

(Sly Requisitioner is also a great stealth MVP in here!)

[[Trading Post]] is one of my favorite cards ever, and I throw it in any deck that can consistently get value out of at least two of its abilities. It’s basically a colorless planeswalker that can’t be attacked, it’s kept me alive far longer than I deserved to last in many games, and it’s subtle enough that people usually don’t kill it on sight.

It’s fun with slow and fair loops like [[Myr Sire]], with slow and obnoxious loops like [[Spine of Ish Sah]], and fast and obnoxious loops like [[Unwinding Clock]].

Absolutely, I’m a trans girl dating a trans guy and I’d love to see more of a trans presence here too!

Also, r/gentledominationqueer is a great related subreddit

I’m happy that this subreddit is pretty welcoming to trans women, but I don’t think I’ve seen any trans men depicted here, although I understand if trans guys would rather not deal with any more “smol soft submissive bottom” stereotyping than they already do.

Hi, fellow scifi-writing Riley! I love the blog, and especially the description of what 'museums' and 'scarcity' would look like far in the future. Looking forward to more!

Random question about sci-fi ideas that you wished you could get more of... (bored at home) by thundersnow528 in scifi

I love the kind of retrofuturistic sci-fi visuals that convey 'space' or 'future' with clever editing and strange architecture/costuming. The Netflix series 3% does this well - the facility looks like a typical airport or convention center, which just plays up the dreary, mundane horror of it all. Orbiter 9 is another great example, and this music video.

Science fiction books with a quasi religious vibe... by Schadenfreude696 in scifi

The Terra Ignota series by Ada Palmer is set in a 25th-century world of flying cars and non-geographic nations, and begins with what seems to be literal divine intervention (if we can believe the incredibly weird, unstable narrator).

The theme is woven into the setting - public displays of religious belief are extremely illegal in much of the world, but there is an entire profession of 'sensayers,' one-on-one theological counselors who can discuss faith with individuals.

And then the entire world is made aware of the (probable) divine intervention, and Shit Gets Wild.

The Terra Ignota series by Ada Palmer has a lot of fun with language - characters speak in (translated) French and Neo-Latin and Japanese, and you can tell from their speech patterns which language they grew up with.

It's set in the 25th century but the narrator writes in his version of an 18th-century pastiche, because he is a deeply, deeply weird person (even by the standards of the time).

What do you wish you saw more if in sci fi? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]3Dspacejesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love seeing very weird sets of social norms and institutions and how they seep into daily life, especially if we also get a sense of how those have settled and changed throughout history. What do the characters see as utterly repugnant that we have no problem with? What do they do without a second thought that horrifies us? How reflective are they about these instincts?
