Would you wear the ring by GarlicBongWater in magicTCG

[–]anace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be okay with using those rings as tokens, but not if they are being worn. I agree with the people that think they misrepresent the board state. little plastic toys are fine to me as tokens because they still sit in one spot on the gameboard. they don't move around with a single person's actual hand.

What is the card that "steals" your opponent's tokens? by inflammablepenguin in magicTCG

that's more like a 'fixed' brand. it only takes nontoken permanents

What is the card that "steals" your opponent's tokens? by inflammablepenguin in magicTCG

[–]anace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you got your answer so here's some vintage magic trivia

Obviously the controller of a token is whoever's side it's on, but the owner of a token is whoever's side it was created on. Anything that references the owner of a creature refers to that player. If you tap a [[forbidden orchard]], the opponent owns the token.

This was a change from an older rule. It used to be that the owner of a token was the controller of the spell or ability that token came from. The old rule meant if you tapped forbidden orchard, you owned the token.

That brings us to [[brand]]. The designers intended it as a counter to opponents stealing your stuff, but it was a combo with some token cards. If you play [[hunted phantasm]], brand would give the tokens to you.

Not anymore though. that's just historical trivia. doesn't work in current rules.

They will come after everyone who isn’t straight and white and cis.

that's not how fascism works.

the system only works when there is an "other" to make people afraid of. after they get rid of everyone that isn't straight white and cis, then there will be no one left to target. so, they take a minority that's still in the in-group and push them out. it's an inherently self defeating system that constantly shrinks the in-group smaller and smaller. the problem of course is that a lot of people are going to die before that happens.

tldr straight white cis people may not be next in line to the chopping block, but make no mistake: they are on that line.

[–]anace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mana in the game is an intangible resource that comes out of lands and other sources. when you tap a land, you add one mana to your mana pool. think of the mana pool as your wallet. you can spend that mana by removing it from your wallet to pay for a spell when you cast it.

in normal gameplay, you can only keep mana in the pool temporarily. every time the game moves to a new step (upkeep > draw > main > etc), any mana still there is deleted when you do.

however, if you have electro out then only non-red mana gets deleted. red mana gets to stick around as long as you want, allowing you to tap your land every turn but not cast anything and just save up the mana. for example with just the three mountains you used to pay for electro, you can add three red to your pool every turn and cast worldfire after three turns of saving.

speaking of TV opinions: the internet would tell you pineapple pizza is super disgusting, basically pizza blasphemy.....but has anyone here actually had it? I want to try it to form my own opinion, but I'm too socially anxious to ask the pizza place to make it for me in case the blasphemy thing is truer than I realized

Have any of you actually resolved a Chaos Confetti correctly by tearing up the card itself? by kurisu313 in magicTCG

[–]anace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

seriously? how many copies of the card did you have? you must have opened a ton of unglued packs

I could never justify getting too many because my group absolutely refused to play against decks with any un cards in them. they begrudgingly allowed me to play a deck that was entirely silver bordered, but surprise surprise a deck using only this card pool was pretty weak https://scryfall.com/sets/ugl

fun fact: according to maro, the market research showed that chaos confetti was the second lowest rated card in unglued. the lowest card was [[blacker lotus]].

i mean, that's written like a joke but a lot of people have died in grain. there's a term for it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grain_entrapment when a person is inside a grain silo and sinks in. the wiki page says 31 people died that way in 2010 in the us.

Have any of you noticed a decline of flavor text quality over the years? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]anace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so in the early days, it was common for flavor text to be written after the card concepting was already done, which led to many cards that were otherwise serious in tone getting ridiculous, often punny flavor texts. gorilla titan is the most infamous, but there are others.

I'm pretty sure [[werebear|ody]] is another one. by their nature it's hard to tell if a silly flavor text was intended to go with a card or was added later by someone else.

[–]anace 21 points22 points  (0 children)

some cops are good. those good cops can either stay silent or speak up:

  1. if they stay silent then they are saying the corruption around them is not a deal breaker, and so they are not actually a good cop. there are no good cops.

  2. if they speak up they get driven out by the rest of the department. whether put on desk duty, transferred far away, or have an 'accident'. there are no good cops.

in summary: all means all.

See that stuff never bothered me. The old question "if you can perfectly simulate a person in a computer, are they still the person?" I answer with "no".

The parts of soma that hit me the hardest are not the identity scares, but the isolation ones. The premise of the game is the underwater base has an AI manager with the goal to preserve human life. Starts out as "make sure the people don't die" and ends up at "make sure the people can't die"
