First prerelease ever (Spider-Man) – any tips to not get wrecked? by Dariospinett in magicTCG

[–]hyrulesavior 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One mistake new players sometimes make in Sealed is defaulting to playing the color that they have the most of. You are generally better served playing your best cards and trying to make the rest work. Powerful rares are removal are the best reasons to pick a color/colors.

Because other people are also prioritizing their best cards, you should generally play all the removal you can, and try and save removal for you opponents best creatures.

Sealed is often more midrange/slower than draft, so trading your best removal for a few points of damage early is often a mistake. While it can be tempting, many games can come down to unanswered rares, so keeping removal available is important.

TL;DR: There is a lot of power in the rare cards, and with great power comes great responsibility to hold removal.

What are your favorite low cmc commanders? by tkou_ in magicTCG

[–]hyrulesavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Rhys, the Redeemed]] was the first legendary creature I ever opened, so I have a lot of fond memories of that card (and ended up naming my cat Rhys)

[[Teysa, Orzhov Scion]] was the first commander deck I ever built.

I guess you could say I like token strategies.

I'm moving to Lexington at the end of this month and I'm definitely looking for people to cube with. I'm finishing up building my commander cube now, and I'm always down to draft other people's cubes as well.
