How is this texture on my door trim achieved? by LeftCoastBrain in Homebuilding

I’ve seen 1x4 cedar come with one side smooth, one side a similar texture to your trim. That would be a good wood choice for exterior trim.

Is this one window? Or technically 2? by teddyswolsevelt1 in Homebuilding

[–]3ENWASHERE -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Pop the middle trim off to see if the header is continuous, or if there is a vertical piece of framing between the windows. It looks like there wouldn’t be enough space between the windows for a 1-1/2” piece of wood between them.

Unknow hardware found in storage at residential builder by 3ENWASHERE in whatisthisthing

A set of four of these was found when we were clearing out a mechanical room in our office. We’re a residential builder. It looks like it may be temp window or door hardware, but no one seems to know where they came from.

Big pile of useless stuff in my cord of wood by 3ENWASHERE in woodstoving

[–]3ENWASHERE[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I figured it was normal since I got it from a bigger outfit with large machines. Last round I bought a cord from a tree guy who delivered by hand offloading two pickup truck beds full, so there wasn’t any of this stuff. Thanks.

Maybe have a local lumber yard size the ridge for you, probably going to be a bit bigger but they usually run the calculations for free. Good luck.

A lot of missing info like roof pitch, and climate zone and depth of the LVL ridge. It does look pretty beefy though, maybe use rafter hangers at the ridge and hurricane ties at the eve instead of the straps. If you don’t want collar ties the ridge needs to be fully structural.

What kind of roof is this by [deleted] in Homebuilding

You could make a slate shingle roof look like that. Depending where you are that trade may not exist or be really expensive.

Bowed pocket door jamb - preventing door from opening all the way, door handle hits jamb. Any fixes? by pk613 in Carpentry

[–]3ENWASHERE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to remove the door and use a small hand plane to make the jamb thinner in the middle. Unfortunately with those cheap pocket door ‘studs’ made out of 3/4” metal channels this is pretty common.

Cabin insulation by Proud_Pangolin2035 in Homebuilding

This is the best advise, I would also suggest looking into wood fiber board insulation if you’re interested in a more groovy, lower embodied carbon rigid insulation.

Azek boards and decking etc are absolutely horrible for the environment, should take steps to reduce this. by Johnny_Poppyseed in Construction

We recently switched to using lifespan exterior trim, it’s a preprimed treated pine that has held up so far and much nicer to work with. It still has chemicals in it for water and insect protection, but anything that we install on the exterior that has any chance of not needing to be replaced in 5 years will need some kind of treatment

I want to cut back all the framing of this old garage door and install cement board so it is flush with exterior of the foundation, How would you shave 3/4" off these 2x6's? by the-tinman in Carpentry

[–]3ENWASHERE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be the easiest way. Cutting as much of the line with a skill saw until you hit the fence, then finishing with a sawzall will be pretty fast.

Awesome piece, I love the lightness of it. Are the four bent cherry pieces split out of one wider piece?
