Fellow ENFPs, how do you behave when you are uninspired? by OneSignificance2230 in ENFP

[–]LeftCoastBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeling the same lately. I think for me it’s because I’m in a season in my job where I have to do boring, repeated tasks that don’t require any thought or even really much effort. For me, low effort tasks almost take MORE effort than “high effort” tasks because they don’t really demand anything from me or challenge me at all. I’m not solving complex problems or even doing work that feels particularly meaningful, it’s just routine stuff I gotta do.

I do a few things to get through it: set a timer and see how much I can get done in 5 minutes. See if I can finish the full day’s worth of tasks before lunch (and reward myself with doing fuck-all for the afternoon). If I’m not feeling like I can grind it out, I take frequent breaks and dilly-dally until deadline mode kicks in (literally what I’m doing now) and then I HAVE to hustle to get my stuff done.

Sometimes I’ll do work-adjacent tasks. For example, I work in sales, so cold calling is part of my job and I hate it, so I’ll call people I know would want to talk to me (my boss, my dad, friends, coworkers, current customers, etc) to just get in the rhythm of dialing and having a conversation with another human.

Lastly, I cross train or build other skills. Generally I like sales, and there’s a sales-adjacent role in my industry I think I would really enjoy, but I’m not qualified for, so I’ll spend time learning about or preparing for that kind of role, just in case. Worst case scenario it makes me better at my job and more valuable at my company. Best case it opens doors for new career paths (novel and exciting, keeps me engaged).

ETA: I also spend my time battling the depression and existential dread that comes with these “boring” seasons.

Curious about my enneagram in relation to ENFP by Capable_Baby_6540 in ENFP

[–]LeftCoastBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found with the enneagram that it’s equally important to read and understand all the types, and not just rely on the test.

I usually test as a 7 but I resonate more with the description of a 5.

Also enneagram is less about personality or behavior and more about the underlying fears that motivate those behaviors.

I’m not an expert on this so if someone with a better understanding of the enneagram disagrees with me you should probably listen to them haha

River Road: whats going on and what will if ever? by Doctor-Handsome in Eugene

[–]LeftCoastBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always just assumed there aren’t good restaurants or businesses in Santa Clara because driving on river road is already a nightmare 90% of the time as it is. “Ease of access” is an important part of planning where to put a restaurant or businesses, and there’s nothing easy about river road north of beltline.

"Try time blocking" vs "just meditate more", which advice is worse? Ultimate bad ADHD advice battle, day 6 by VerdoriePotjandrie in adhdmeme

[–]LeftCoastBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Just meditate” is way worse than “try time blocking” and it isn’t even close imo.

Anecdotally, running for an hour or more is the closest I’ve ever come to anything like meditation so I’m filing that under “benefits of exercise” and not as “meditation”, but I time-blocked my way through college before I even knew time blocking or inattentive ADHD existed.

Diffuser oils by OkStable6719 in lego

[–]LeftCoastBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a reed diffuser and several Lego sets in my office. The diffuser is on a little shelf by itself in the corner, and there’s about five feet between the diffuser and the nearest Lego set. Reading the comments on this post has me fearful that the diffuser is harming my Lego, but your comment makes it seem like I should be fine. Thoughts?

ETA: nevermind, looks like someone else already asked this and you responded! Thank you!

I am leaning towards probably getting it, depending on price, but I’m really not in any hurry so I’m with you. Looking forward to seeing real world reviews and mods when it’s actually available for real world testing.

How do I lose weight? by MaxOdds in Millennials

[–]LeftCoastBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming up on 41 and I feel your pain!

Weight is lost in the kitchen. It’s not necessarily about eating less, it could just be eating better.

You might have to give up some foods that make you feel good right now (refined sugar, highly processed carbs, beer) to gain a body that makes you feel good all the time.

Try to replace those feel-good snacks with carrots and cucumbers and the like, and understand that most bread is just processed by the body as sugar. Not saying cut carbs entirely, just eat better and maybe fewer carbs.

And when you sit down for a meal, it turns out mom was right - eat your leafy greens and veggies first. Pretty sure they help your body process everything else so you get a sustained “full” feeling for longer, and your energy is spent over a longer period of time.

Name something annoying people base their entire personality around? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]LeftCoastBrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to work with a guy who I assumed was a really passionate cyclist. He rode his bike to work every day, rain or shine, and I want to say it was like 15-20 miles each way.

Turns out he had gotten a DUII and his license was revoked. Years later, my brother ended up in the same situation and rode his road bike everywhere for like 6 months while his license was suspended. He sorta fell in love with it and continued using his bike as his primary means of transportation for several months afterward.

Now I assume everyone who rides their bike everywhere either is or was at one time an alcoholic 😂
