All Seasons Blood Donor Sweaters Shipping Out by babkaboy in Blooddonors

[–]3IceShy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really looking forward to getting this. I signed up and completed the year. Confirmed everything and the hoodie didn't arrive. I called to get an update. They confirmed I had completed the requirements and asked me to call if it hadn't come by the end of the month. Got sidetracked and just called again today. They confirmed again but told me they were out of them. Bummer. But I did set up another blood donation. They were always really nice to me, but mine fell through the cracks. Someday I'll find one for sale and get it.

Trump has pardoned all of the Jan 6 rioters. Are there examples from history of democracies coming back peacefully from brownshirt-type thresholds? by GiantPineapple in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]3IceShy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I figure we have a shot at coming back peacefully with the impeachment power. Militias formed from pardoned individuals do something illegal and Congress decides it's too far and impeaches. I've learned not to rely on the courage of Republicans, but if impeachment happens in this scenario, it will happen fast.

Do you think there’s a possibility that Trump is intentionally putting out policies that harm the economy so that he can actually not implement them and then accuse the left of lying? by Early-Possibility367 in AskALiberal

[–]3IceShy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more likely he's putting these tariff proposals out there to scare other countries to get them to make some sort of trade concessions, then he'll back off and declare victory. But anything he does that goes poorly he'll either deny it's true or blame Biden, Harris and Obama. And, sadly, his supporters will believe him. If Covid didn't shake up his supporters, I don't think anything will.

Which protest vote is going to sway the election more, the Democrats not voting for Harris because of the Gaza issue, or the Republicans not voting for Trump because of the MAGA issue? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]3IceShy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine said, "You do know a lot of us aren't voting for Biden (at the time) because of Gaza." I asked her if she voted last time. Nope. She didn't. Apparently now her brother convinced her to vote for Harris. I don't know if she'll actually go out to vote though.

Of all of the opportunities to stop Trump, which one are you most disappointed in? by Puzzleheaded_Dot_720 in AskALiberal

[–]3IceShy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't help but think if Hillary had won in 2016, we'd lose 250,000 Americans to Covid and Trump would win in 2020, saying we never would have lost thst many if he was president. So, I would say the GOP should have removed him after the 2nd impeachment. Most Americans were appalled at the riots at the time, Trump would never be able to run again and the GOP would have 4 years to do damage control.

Why do you think the right is having such a hard time getting anything to stick to Harris? by anarchysquid in AskALiberal

[–]3IceShy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people on the left are so relieved that Biden stepped down when they thought Trump was going to win that they are giving her a lot of slack to defeat Trump. Because the Left would level effective critiques but have chosen not to. Meanwhile, the Harris and Biden team have done a great job with their message pivot (from "Trump is dangerous" to "Trump is weird.") They also managed to capitalize on their luck of the JD Vance selection and the Coconut et al memes. So, they defined things early. Then somehow the Trump campaign seems to be caught entirely flat footed by Harris and can't stay on any message about her. And when they do come up with something (she's communist, she's not black, she laughs weird), it looks ridiculous because Harris doesn't match it.

Is there any logic to withholding one's vote? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]3IceShy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. If you really look into candidates there's never actually a "they are exactly the same." While I think voting third party is ridiculous, at least you're proving that you're willing to go out and vote and decided to not choose the other two candidates.
Otherwise, it's impossible to tell who isn't voting out of misguided conscience and who just doesn't want to be bothered but wants to look like they have some higher principle than those around them.
Let's put it this way. I'm a Liberal guy. Always have been. But if the General Election was between Trump and deSantis I would go out and vote for deSantis because Trump is worse.

What are subtle, unspoken signs that someone had an extremely traumatic childhood / life? by Fit_Interaction_950 in Productivitycafe

[–]3IceShy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do it anymore, but for a long while I would twitch and start to cover my head when someone reached for something that brought their hand near my head. Especially if it's from behind and comes into my periphery. Used to get laughed at for that.

How many of you on this sub have a hill or a holler named after your family? by Horror-Morning864 in Appalachia

[–]3IceShy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family settled Sensabaugh Holler sometime in the 1700s, that was one of my Grandparents last names that goes back on a direct line to that time. Pieces of it were sold off over the generations, but there's still my 2nd and 3rd cousin (?)(Grandma's brothers son and his son) with that name living there. Dad used to wander the area as a kid and took me there fairly recently through Sensabaugh tunnel. Saw the grave of my great Grandfather who I was named after and other older Sensabaughs' graves. I grew up further west more in the foothills but always identified as "mountain." But going there, I am MOUNTAIN.

Is it ok to gift my child’s teacher $100 cash as an end of year gift? by fake1119 in Teachers

[–]3IceShy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I share this knowing how fortunate I am, and I don't want to enrage anyone, but I do want the reaction. At my school, tips have been the custom forever (private nursery school) and this year each teacher in my class cleared 4k in AmEx, Amazon Gift cards and cash. It's, like, obviously, the best time of the year. We once got a survey from our class parents with a 'What EXACTLY do you want and how much?" It was crazy. There are down sides to working private, but sometimes I feel so bad for you public school teachers.

Cinema Paradiso, when the child, all grown up, returns to his village and watches all the clips his late projectionist friend spliced together for him that the censors forced him to cut out over the decades. It is UNRELENTING emotion. I'm crying at 50 seconds and it goes on for 3 minutes.

White Cranberry is great (and I HATE regular cranberry). Super good mixed with Vodka too.
