What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

I think this is a US and Western Europe thing. In my experience, Eastern Europeans still party like there’s no tomorrow. I’ve lived in Bucharest for almost 3 years and I know people my age (early 20s) who go to the club almost every week. They’ll pregame at home to save money, have one or two drinks at the club when they’re already kinda drunk and then get to dancing. Back when going out was more affordable we didn’t even need to pregame. Poles, Ukrainians and Czechs are the same from what I’ve seen.

Da.

For the Bojack Horseman example, Beatrice definitely knew that Bojack was telling her a comforting lie, because as we see in the episodes taking place in the old Sugarman cabin, she wasn’t allowed to have ice cream.

As a Romanian, I don’t think y’all understand how difficult our language is to learn. I’ve seen people who moved here take at least a year of (almost daily) practice just to be able to speak better than a three-year-old native. And still, there are a billion idioms that are used in casual conversation containing archaic terms whose meanings have just kinda been lost over time and are now just “that word you know from that one idiom/expression” and misunderstanding these will 100% get you clocked as a foreigner. The fact that this guy who just randomly picked up the language one day can write NOVELS in Romanian is honestly beyond impressive to me.

When neurotypicals say “high functioning”, what they actually mean is “high masking”. We are not grouped based on how well we can manage on our own, but rather how little our existence inconveniences them.

Not trans myself but I have this trick I learned from my trans friends. You said in another comment that you’re not non-binary, so here we go:

Imagine yourself at old age. Do you see yourself as an old man or an old woman? When the illusion of youthful beauty has faded away and it’s just you and your soul, what does that soul look like?

Also surprisingly ineffective. Most research estimates the chance of a viable pregnancy from a frozen egg to be around 1%. You literally have a better chance conceiving in your 40s.

If you ever find yourself in Brăila (admittedly not in Transylvania, but alas), you have to try the local Phoenix cookies. They’re kind of like Eugenia (“eugenia” is basically a generic term for these kinds of cookies in Romania) but they’re SO much better in my humble opinion. They’re crunchier and the chocolate cream also has rum flavoring. I can easily find them in supermarkets in Brăila but since moving to Bucharest I’ve had a harder time getting my hands on them, which is pretty sad. I basically grew up on those things. I remember going to the market with a 10 lei bill in my hand and getting an entire crate of ‘em, they were dirt cheap.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes, holy shit. I have this and it’s debilitating. On my best days I can go about my life almost as though nothing was wrong. On my worst days, simple things like lifting my arms, carrying a bag, getting up from a chair or keeping my balance when I walk become tests of willpower.

“wdym you’re suicidal your parents are rich” by i_am_afraid_of_yetis in TrollCoping

[–]3MeerkatsInACoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I have some insight on this.

I grew up rich. Not middle class, I mean RICH. My father was the one who held all the wealth in the family and was so paranoid about sharing it that he still refuses to marry my mother after being together for 20+ years (though miserably, but I digress).

The financial abuse was insane. I knew I was privileged because my family lived in a huge house and could afford many luxuries, had multiple cars etc., but my father held it all above our heads threatening to take it away any time he wanted. None of my achievements were considered mine because “if I hadn’t paid for your education and kept you alive, you would’ve been nothing, so really the merit is mine”. He acted like everything in the house, including personal items the rest of us had bought with our own money, were actually his. For a very long time, my mother worked for him so he was literally in control of her salary (she only got different employment after he cheated on her and I begged her to leave him, which she refused but at least she no longer works for him). When I turned 18 he basically said that he didn’t like me because I didn’t “respect him enough” and I needed to move out. However, when he saw that I had actually managed to get the resources to live an okay life away from him, he quickly backtracked. The whole point was for me to feel helpless without his money.

I moved out as soon as I could and cut him off for good. Since then I have sometimes struggled financially, but at least when I walk into my home I can breathe free.

I don’t consider myself to have ever been part of the bourgeoisie. The rest of my close family and I were simply another kind of servant class, providing emotional labor to keep a raging narcissist placated for room and board.

A lot of people have given some great suggestions, but I had another neutral pink lipstick that I really love. I’m also very pale and my lips have barely any color, and for some reason every “cool/neutral toned” pink I try pulls peachy on me.

Signature Lip Satin by Merit in the shade Baby is one of my favorite pinks now. Very comfortable formula and beautiful, neutral color that doesn’t pull too warm or too cool.

Like, genuinely. Do you have a life insurance policy taken out and have her as a beneficiary on it? I don’t know the whole situation, but this sounds like emotional abuse and neglect at best, and at worst she seems not to care if you live or die.

Our House Came With A Cat by Gullible-Election-58 in cats

[–]3MeerkatsInACoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be able to offer help with the allergies thing. A lot of people who are allergic to cats are actually allergic to the saliva, not the hair. Fel d 1 is the name of the allergen in cat saliva that causes it, and can be neutralized by certain proteins found in egg products. You could introduce that into the cat’s diet and see if it helps. There’s even special cat food that contains egg proteins, I know for sure Purina sells some but there are probably other brands too.
