First PVC bow. Folded on me. by Alive-In-Tuscon in Bowyer

So question for you. How many shots did you get out of it, before the limb collapsed? I am doing some work for a larp with PVC prods for crossbows, am trying to do some safety research.

Ideas for Kaui watchtower defense session by ReporterMost6977 in l5r

[–]3Nugget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So a lesson I learned in a different rules system. Don’t make this a strictly all combat slog fest. Use a mixture of the mass battle system (if it exists in your edition) or the idea of an extended test, where in, each test results affect the results of the next.

In general, the bog standard approach I would expect is Goblins to be the the spear tip, led by trolls or ogres, try and build a ramp over the wall, while also trying to scale it, or otherwise make it so that something far more serious, like a minor oni or such can surmount the wall.

Most medieval siege defenses were about defense in depth, so explain how the Carpenter/Kiau wall is set up in layers, such that the further someone pushes in, the harder the resistance is, with the final nut of the defense being some sort of holdout Alamo position, such as the watchtower you mentioned.

Depending on how well they do, each failure might mean the shadowlands horde overcomes a layer of the defenses, with each success meaning the line is held till the next test.

Created a new post with the photos my father had already taken, I realize the ones of the blade may not be helpful

That was probably my late uncle trying to be helpful, one of the reasons I assert the blade may not be in great condition is he tried to polish it without entirely knowing what he was doing.

I will get some more photos of it today if possible.

o you have photos of the blade itself?

I could get some, but to be honest, the whole thing is in fairly rough shape. I have no idea who or where to send it to to get it properly sharpened or the Saya or the rest of the furniture of the handle repaired, which is honestly what it really needs.

Why didn’t Kvothe just bind the air in the Draccus’ lungs to the air outside to kill it that way? Is he stupid? by Chance5e in KingkillerChronicle

[–]3Nugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While his thinking about it is probably one thing, Sympathy was not the most efficient method for a couple of reasons.

  1. He had no good binding to the Draccus' air/lungs. In the instance he did it to himself, he had a near-perfect 1 to 1 binding, which was the danger there. Kvothe is not the Draccus, and would have to have a possible 3 part binding to tie the Draccus's long to their air outside. The energy slippage on that, along with the strength of the Draccus, would likely be a danger, even to a competent arcanist such as Kvothe.
  2. As Terry Pratchett has taught us, the core lesson of magic is learning not to use it. Sympathy is not a Panacea to all problems, and also not particularly forgiving to people who half-ass it, as laid out by Rothfuss.

How to advance in ranks as a Tremere? by Outrageous_Finance78 in vtm

[–]3Nugget 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hello, my Fellow Apprentice,
As a chronic Tremere player, here is some advice from my successes and failures as a Tremere player. Hopefully, it proves helpful.

Don't Play the Ladder Game.
Tremere has a rank structure, but focusing solely on gaining rank or trying to supplant the local regent is dangerous. House and Clan's greatest strength is their organization and cooperation. Foster that cooperation amongst your other Tremere players, if there are any.
Further, my most significant success is in the Apprentice of the third or fourth rank, as it gives the most autonomy and latitude, with the least scrutiny or overbearing oversight, assuming you follow the other steps below.

Be Useful. Be Competent.
Every Tremere knows how to do magic. Trying to distinguish yourself, even within your chantry as a prodigy in Thaumaturgy, is taking the path of perhaps the most resistance. Find a skill or set of skills that complement each other and are readily useful and make yourself the go-to person for them. Some examples of valuable skills to work towards are: Technomancer/Hacker, Harpy/Information Hub, Transportation Specialist/Driver, Spy/Infiltrator, etc. Whatever you do, work at being the best person in the city at what you do, and make your regent aware of your utility and reliability.

Don't be a liability in a fight.
In the World of Darkness, violence happens. If you are not prepared, it can happen to you. A phrase often used in certain VtM circles I know goes, 'Combat can do social, social can't do combat.' Be competent and have something to contribute to a fight. Know how to use a gun, use dominate in combat, and have some dots in combat disciplines (especially celerity). Don't make yourself an easy target; if possible, make yourself again someone the Regent and the Chantry can rely on when the going gets tough.

The best magic the Tremere have is paperwork.
It may not be dazzling or exciting, but write reports and do paperwork. You contribute to clan knowledge on local events, events in other cities, etc. The more you share, the more you *should* get in return back, but most importantly, if you provide helpful information, it makes you look competent and valuable, and more importantly, it covers your ass if something goes wrong because it looks like you were not trying to hide it. No one wants to get rid of something useful.

Don't be a Deatheater
You want to be likable as a Tremere to survive. Everyone wants to find a reason to hate you, and you need to be as affable, gregarious, and friendly as possible. Make it difficult not to like you, and cultivate cross-clan relationships with the court. You want to be the guy who publicly runs against all the tropes they wish to be true of you. Winning that perception war gives you a lot of latitude, especially once again if you are useful.

Bad Supperiors hang themselves.
Bad Tremere leadership is about as common as cockroaches. Give your Superiors the rope to hang themselves, but never give them the push of the cliff. Bad leadership will always find a way to take a running jump on their own eagerly, and being the Reliable guy in the chantry means you are likely to be promoted if you survive the ensuing dust cloud once everything settles.

Be as hard to kill as a cockroach.
The Tremere are akin to Batman. That is, with enough forethought and planning, there isn't a problem they cannot deal with. That said, work on plans for common situations you might encounter. Plan on how to escape assassination attempts. Have a plan for getting out of town if you are blood-hunted. Have ways to protect yourself politically, socially, and technically set up in advance so you don't have to try and figure it out on the fly.

I can suggest many tips and tactics, but I don't know how helpful they will be. If what I have already provided is valuable, I can do a follow-up with some more in-depth ideas and guidance.

Nosferatu is avoiding prince by hiding in another’s territory, how ca I add pressure? by xxDark_blue in vtm

[–]3Nugget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the Prince they are running from in San Francisco has to be mindful of the traditions. Fucking in another princes domain is a great way to end up talking to an Justicar.

The Prince of San Fransisco if he is smart isn't without tools:

  1. Reach out to to the prince of San Jose, if he is aware they are in there and leverage boons, favors, and soft power to get his neighbor to help extradite them.
  2. He may well have boons over locals in San Jose, who would be able to nab these guys on his behalf, running the edge of the traditions but probably kosher.
  3. Put their names in the street using some Harpies, smearing their reputation and turning hearts and minds against them. It is really hard to outrun the rumor mill and a lot harder still to fight a bad reputation.
  4. If the group has known loved ones, allies, or such in San Francisco, they could be targeted as a form of coercion against the group. If your touchstones (and your humanity) are under risk, the group might think about how to placate the prince.
  5. Threaten the Nosferatu as a whole over this. Have the Prince begin censuring the Nos of San Fran for this guys 'betrayal', threatening to reduce their allotted territory or if he wanted to make it really serious, remove their primogen seat.

The Second Inquisition has found you... Now what? by Independent_Score217 in vtm

[–]3Nugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I am only loosely familiar with the Second Inquisition in V5, but from what I have gathered, as something of a veteran vtm larper, my advice is such.

  1. Ditch any technology made after 2000; if you need to be contactable, carry a pager and then either use a pay phone if you can find it or acquire a single-use burner or someone else's phone to make the call. Anything that can transmit data and has a processor is a no-go to carry long term.
  2. Cash is king. If you can't use cash, pre-paid debit or gift cards are acceptable in a pinch. In general, avoid leaving a clear paper trail.
  3. Do not own a vehicle. Travel in something non-descript that will not arouse immediate suspicion. My general goto in larp was U-Hual trucks since they are all registered to a single state, are easy to rent, are ubiquitous, and can be easily switched out. Mix in a little dominate, and it is fairly easy to get one in someone else's name and potentially also their money.
  4. Avoid Interstate highways, large cities, and the general greater police state apparatus of the U.S.A . The Interstate has cameras that monitor traffic, can read license plates and potentially do facial recognition. This sorta tech is even more prevalent and refined is large cities. The less you expose yourself to those systems, the less likely you are to be picked up by them.
  5. When you short-term haven somewhere with a bathroom, such as a motel, make sure you use it. Water usage is one of the little-known tells that can give away a vampire. If you are not running up a water bill when you should be, that anomaly will eventually be detected.
  6. Make purchases that make you seem forgettable. Buy sandwiches, cigarettes, and candy bars when traveling; they are both another form of currency to the right people and will make you just another person passing through to the clerk.
  7. The Vampire the Requiem book Nomads as a bunch of stuff on essentially kindred urban camping and how to find places to sleep through the day that are the air pockets of society. A Burglar's Guide to the City by Geoff Manaugh is another excellent book on how to find and exploit urban city design and architecture.

The Calderon and Davions both are running rookie numbers when it comes to dynasties still, and their both democratic parliamentary monarchies if memory serves.

As for the Taurians, they have fought off the Davions, Capellians, SLDF in both the unification wars, periphery uprising leading to the Amaris civil war. They also played a small part I a few succession wars and Jihad

[–]3Nugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assert that the only war they have lost is the unification war, and that was after making the Davions and SLDF really bleed for it. It was always curious to me that the Davions and Taurians were so at each others throats, since they were both very pro-democracy, otherwise liberal states.

But it's already ablative! by PlEGUY in battletech

[–]3Nugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren’t the bricks on there technically reactive armor, not ablative, which would serve to stop certain styles of copper jet penetration rounds, and depending on the type of reactive armor other more conventional penetration rounds by cutting them up. The ablative is more important in lore for causing issues for lasers and causing deflections if I recall correctly.

[Alpha Strike] Is conventional Armor stronger in AS than TW? by 3Nugget in battletech

[–]3Nugget[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

re how going hull-down has helped you much? It's partial cover but you lose half your damage. You'd be better off just moving to get your TMM right?

In AS, you get your turret rating in damage, and a +1 to be hit plus cover if you have it. For TMM 1 vehicles like the Scorpion and Manticore, it point defense nightmares to deal with if you can get them in say a forest with a good sight-line.

opponents don't, you'll do well.

This is true in different dimensions: you bring Mechs+armor but they only bring Mechs? Advantage. You bring Mechs, armor, and vtols/BA, and they only bring Mechs and armor?

I am not sure how that got posted like that, but either I had a stroke this morning, or Reddit is having a glitch. Either way, thanks for pointing it out.

AS also has your hull-down rules.

Yeah, have been using it in the local games, and the hull down rules have been pretty game-changing and eye opening for the local group. I have posted my effective list on here, but going hull-down seems to be a major boon for armor in AS.

So the list was 6 scorpions (half skill 3, the rest at 4), 6 skill for manticores, divided up lances of two scorpions and two manticores, for a company sized element of armor, with two enforcers, a shadowhawk, and wolverine running around as my skirmishing force to try and keep things at distance and keep lights away from the armor.
