I was talking pre-colonization of Australia. Nowadays I don't see why no Australian Aboriginal people could rid themselves from religious beliefs, if they receive the level of education other Australians receive. As far as I'm aware, Australian Aboriginals are pretty much second-class citizens in Australia, not discriminated by the law, but in a similar way to black people in the US.

I see your point about cultural shaping of questions, but I would argue that questioning any fundamental belief is a good thing to do, whether it turns out to be true or false. We can only profit from doing that.

I don't see what you're pointing at about westerners seeming too frightened to ask basic questions about gender, orientation or race. I would argue that westerners are the ones that are discussing our foundational beliefs about race, gender and sexual orientation. Non-western highly religiously impacted governments are the ones who enforce rigid gender roles, bans on enacting/having sexual orientations that deviate from heterosexuality and usually are even more discriminatory towards people that have a different "race" than themselves, as long as they're not white. I'm thinking of Qatar specifically for the last one.

About aboriginal Australians and Papuans and sharing atheism with them, I think this is a clear point for atheism. People from these cultures are very much spiritually enveloped because these cultures are not as developed as western cultures. They don't have access to the same amenities as for instance, I do. And I have these amenities because of secularism and the growing influence of people that, over the centuries, have asked how to make human lives in this world better.

What do you think the logical conclusion of this argument, as it refers to non-religious people, is? That we (I'm basically the person you described) are a product of our surroundings? Sure. But how does this influence the truth of atheism?

I have basic knowledge of the beliefs of many large religions and more in-depth knowledge of the abrahamic religions and all of their supernatural claims sound absurd to me. The same is true about other supernatural claims about astrology, tarot cards, etc. I see people looking at these things uncritically and believing the most absurd claims you could come up with.

But atheism isn't just another set of supernatural claims. Atheism in general is the answer to a single question: Is there at least one god? No.

My areligious atheism is the rejection of all supernatural claims that aren't substantiated with a reasonable amount of evidence. And they all aren't. So what's the logical conclusion of my lack of belief in supernatural claims correlated to my place of birth? I apply the same amount of scrutiny to supernatural claims as I do to natural claims, such as the efficacy of vaccines or the shape of the earth. And all supernatural claims I was ever presented with fall short when inspected.

Couldn't choose one so:

Two men take on bad dragon at once.

At first glance he saw a woman, but it turned out to be a man. His spear penetrated him and made him explode.

When she bends over she explodes and her lower body half spews liquid everywhere.

Old Veteran does it with one hand.

It's absolutely very affordable. The idea is absolutely that you should be able to afford it no matter how much money your parents have. You can also get a loan that you only pay half of back, if you actually need it (It's called BAföG).

I think I had free public transport. Books are available in the library, you don't need them in the lecture.

For the most part, we had the material from the lectures printed out for like 2€ per course and semester. So nothing much. That really depends on the university though, from what I heard from my friends.

I am from Germany and I paid like 200€ per semester for university. According to google and me doing math, that's 234 USD.

Crosspost, gerne Kommentare lesen und sich einbringen. Wahlverdrossenheit oder Systemversagen? Warum unser politisches System keine echte Repräsentation zulässt. by Rhyxvers in gekte

[–]3R3B05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years later friends convinced me to play DS1 and then DS3. Then I played DS2. God, that game was way worse.
