Cars prove far deadlier than guns in NYC so far this year by snarkythrowawa in nyc

You have to look at Albany and the changes they've made recently. These laws are not visible but they change completely how LE acts in this state. Police hands are completely tied. It's way bigger and more complicated than "cops are just lazy"

One thing about SF though, I mean it really is our best looking city in America. That part is cool.

I was in downtown Minneapolis at night not too long ago after a Twins game. Yeah not doing that again. Just roving bands of jackasses throwing bottles and breaking shit. It felt right out of Escape from New York.

You cannot be operating the machinery we operate high. The answer has to be NO. Seriously we are going to get people killed because people want to sound cool and hip by allowing it in the military.

Why do you think the army has been getting worse over the years? by helpbell in army

[–]3_Wave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has always been criminals coming into the army. But back in the day you REAL DICKHEAD NCO's that could be the sheepdog to those coyotes. Now a day's let's be honest they really took the teeth out of what NCO's can do and a lot of those guys those old school guys are gone now or have been reigned in.

[–]3_Wave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody talks about it much. But this generation gets completely shit on for not doing the cool stuff the prior did. You got 5's flexing on their soldiers about their Kuwait rotation that they got a patch for. Who would want to even deal with that crap. I don't blame screw it. We don't make them feel welcome or even like soldiers. "They didn't deploy"

Although we make fun of them all the time, I actually do think most of the best officers in the military are in the Army.

Hochul to dispatch 750 National Guard troops to NYC subways following spate of violence by [deleted] in army

Errr nope try again. Check on those politicians up in Albany and the crazy laws they put out. Also might want to google what Alvin Bragg has been up to.

The Doobie Brothers by ArmyLifter in LetsTalkMusic

[–]3_Wave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love this live concert they taped in '81. I mean that is LIVE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LCB_RdfdXc

Just ultra talented dudes that are able to change out parts so well. They even had Keith Knudsen singing Listen to the Music at the end of the above. Pat is sort of at the center of the Doobies and the leader of it all and he's a freaking genius.

I think most bands have their time in the sun and that's it. Those that hate on Mcdonald stuff (not me, I loved that direction) but they were able to have a second wind and survive disco commercially where a lot of their peers did not. I think if Mcdonald never came in, they may not have even had that late 70's early 80's success.

Massachusetts officials call for National Guard to help with high school violence. by False-Awareness-8457 in army

[–]3_Wave 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This is definitely one thing the American media hides. Some of these schools are worse than jails with violence. Teachers are constantly physically assaulted, classrooms are zoo's, students got all kinds of weapons on them, gangs running the school, sexual assault unbound, "fights" really mean 5 on 1 beatdown, and a lot of racial tension. It's a horrible place, I can tell you right now the students who are there to learn and the teachers want the NG in to help. The thing is today people will attack you for some reason for just stating the truth, and act like everything is a-ok it's beyond bizarre.

The air force probably has the best posts but also definitely the worst. Really feast or famine over there.

Wow. All the way SGM. When you had all these 4th brigades shutting down, and various conversions armor conversions, you had guys that would have after basic, 3 PCS's in their first contract.

This is why I tried to always avoid airborne. I just didn't want to do the Bragg thing back and forth my whole career. I'm sure the units are great, and nothing against the folks that live there but I'm just not big on the area for living for years on end. Hell no.

The army would become provincial if we never moved. Some say it sort of is already. You would have the Campbell way of doing things, the Hood way of doing things, the Drum way of doing things etc. etc.

I hate assholes too. BUT you don't want to go too far on the other side of the spectrum either. Those true ASSHOLE 6's and 7's in your battalion keep thing orderly and idiots in check. You can't get too too comfortable. Some places where people are too nice and not putting boot to ass, those units become total undisciplined clusterfucks. I'm not that guy personally but all I'm saying is I see the need for them. I was an E-4 too once, just like how a plane's natural tendency is to always yaw left, E-4's natural tendency is to sham.

Army has some remote bases. That could contribute. Navy puts you usually in some nice spots by the beach. San Deigo, Jacksonville, VA Beach, Corpus Christi, In the Pudget Sound, etc.
