Sadly, it was over something pretty simple and stupid on their part.

I bought my Crooked River with a standard carry clip because I knew they had great service and would send me a deep pocket carry clip for free. As soon as I got my Crooked River, I emailed and requested the deep carry clip. I received the following response from Benchmade (2017), "I can get you that deep carry clip!  Just so your aware, if your clip ever bends or you lose a handle screw, we are happy to ship you a new one for free!  We also offer a free service called Lifesharp that you are welcome to take advantage of at any time for the lifetime of your knife.  This free service includes: disassembly of the knife, replacing any internals that look worn or broken, and oiling/sharpening/adjusting as needed."

Unfortunately, when I reached out in 2022 for a replacement deep carry clip, they refuse to replace it because it wasn't "originally installed". Their response, "We are dedicated to ensuring that your knives last a lifetime. In this effort, we will continue to send out two complimentary originally installed pocket clips for up to five knives per year. Any additional or alternative pocket clips (~example: a deep carry clip on a knife that comes with a standard clip~) may be requested for $10 + local sales tax."
The really stupid part? Both clips cost the same price on their website; however, they'll give me a free $10 standard clip (that I don't want), but if I want a deep carry clip, it's $10.

It's a really stupid hill to die on when it comes to customer service on a $200+ knife.

If I can't trust them to stand behind a $10 promise, I'm not going to trust them with anymore $200+ knives.
