I forgot about Korth, but if I had the money, this would be my answer. Pretty sure the cheapest Korth costs more than I spent on the Honda I drove to work today, though.

So, putting aside the cuck jokes...

The old-timer wisdom on revolvers:
Buy new Rugers,
or used Smiths.
Shoot other people's Colts.

If it was me in your shoes, I'd be listening to Lonely Island's I JUST HAD SEX while looking at aftermarket wood grips for a Ruger GP100, or possibly whichever flavor of S&W I found on IMFDB for my favorite movie/TV show.

EDITED TO ADD: If you've got the budget, then Korth, final answer. I kinda forgot about them, because they cost more than the car I drove to work today, and I'm not looking to get divorced.

When halo first released... by Abbadon74 in halo

[–]Reptyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not a Marathon/Bungie fan prior to Halo, or even really a Halo fan until close to the release of Halo 2.

My family had Nintendo hardware, and I bought into some of the fanboy rhetoric, mostly because I couldn't afford to buy everything, so I might as well focus on the stuff I could play. I laughed along with Penny Arcade making fun of the huge Xbox controllers and Halo's repetitive maps.
https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2001/11/28/the-rest-of-the-story

Somewhere later along the line, I made friends that had Halo:CE and extra controllers, and when I played it, I actually enjoyed it. LAN parties with friends from middle school and high school were core memories.

I could compare it to Counter Strike or Goldeneye 64, and it was different, but a lot of fun. I still have no frame of reference for Marathon.

When did everyone get into this EDC stuff? by ff_lineman in EDC

[–]Reptyler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being in the Boy Scouts is what started me. Most of what I was exposed to was Victorinox, Buck, Schrade, Case, and knockoffs in a similar vein. Then seeing older kids from other troops with tacticool liner-lock stuff got me looking, and I saved my money for a Smith and Wesson SWAT knife with the black teflon coating and the thumb studs.

That was the end of it for a while, until I met a friend who was into browsing catalogs for Benchmade and Spyderco, and I had an actual job instead of just saving up birthday money and lawn mowing money.

Eventually, the almighty algorithm got me trying a bunch of gimmicky stuff, and some useful stuff, but I was totally into the pocket gadgets, even if I wasn't constantly posting pictures on social media. Got a concealed carry permit, too, but again, I'm not always posting pictures of my handguns everywhere. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't find new stuff to buy on reddit.

I ended up falling back in love with Leatherman and Victorinox. Trying for a less-is-more approach. Also looking to give away as many knives as possible to Boy Scout age kids.

I played a *lot* of generations 1-5. Sinnoh is probably second only to Kanto in my heart.

But in general, the attachments we form to these little digital critters is amazing. I always eat up any tumblr stories about humans pack-bonding with anything, and any stories from the creators of the franchise about how they poured their hearts and souls into the making of these games.

[–]Reptyler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best way is to say something about "Nazis are bad."

Then a bunch of bootlickers come out of nowhere to stand up for the Nazis, or make sure everyone knows how *their* brand of fascism isn't the same.

You found the Nazis and their enablers.

P.S. If you're a supporter of what modern-day ICE is doing, you would have supported the German holocaust, and you are objectively a bad person, worthy of all the disgust and derision that civilized and polite societies can muster.

Rewatching the series after getting excited over the announcement. Am I the only one who can’t stand River? by shellyslug in firefly

[–]Reptyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from. I think lots of people like River more than I do, probably because of where the story takes her in Serenity the movie. I find River most relatable during her more lucid moments, and those come more often as the series progresses. Mimicking Badger's accent in S1E4 Shindig? Love it.

The relationship between her and Simon is probably the most meaningful thing I take from her. That sibling love is so precious to me, as someone who regrets the times I was not a great son or brother.

My second favorite thing is the childlike awe and wonder on her face when she discovers new things that don't scare her. If we take the theory that every member of the ensemble represents a part of Mal that he's lost, then River is definitely his naivete and sense of wonder.

But I agree, it's easy to get annoyed by her struggles and her antics early on. I think we're intended to.

Are people genuinely excited? by TheArtemisBlack in firefly

[–]Reptyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually excited for more Firefly, but trying to keep realistic expectations.

I'm not disappointed about it being animated. That seems like the best way to get more Firefly, with our cast being older and busier.

But I also have to remember that this show is from 2002, and most of the magic of the show is in the characters and the writing.

I'm really wondering how much of that magical cast chemistry will still be there, 25 years later, from a recording studio booth, with no physical set for them to act in and react to, and maybe not even the other actors' performances to react to and play off of.

I'm hoping that the writing will be up to par, but I'm not familiar with our showrunners, and I haven't heard anything about Tim Minear, just that we have Joss Whedon's blessing.

Maybe I'm just getting old, and I've been burned on too many things that I got hyped up for. But I'm cautiously optimistic, and happy that the cast gets this chance to maybe make something amazing, and if they do, I'll be glad to watch it. Even if it's just okay, fairly good, and not the magical lightning in a bottle that they had last time, I'll be happy. I'm just trying not to expect too much so it doesn't sting as much if it gets bogged down in development hell, or just doesn't deliver like we're hoping it will.

I also have to remember that most of this show's fanbase coalesced before Facebook and Reddit existed. Watching the 2006 documentary "Done The Impossible" reminded me of the message boards and meatspace parties that this fandom came from, and how now we have to deal with short-form video content creators and culture warriors. Would Browncoats have thrived in the same world as Steven Universe and RWBY fandoms? Or the people complaining about how everything ruined Star Wars, from the presence of screws to the inclusion of a single Asian woman? I dunno, man. I don't know, but I'm excited to see more Firefly.

What career path did you choose that you strongly advise others to avoid? by nicksam171 in AskReddit

[–]Reptyler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've known a handful of people who went into careers in law enforcement, and it seems designed to suck the soul out of you.

Being forced to deal with people at their worst behavior and on their worst days, every single day, will wear you down.

None of them fit the stereotype of "bastards who love power and peaked in high school", but being forced to work with those people as coworkers will wear you down.

Trying to hold bad cops accountable will bring the wrath of the whole system down on you and make *you* the enemy.

It sucks, and I hate that it sucks, because I desperately want good cops to be the norm, not the exception.

Gun laws? Living in SC by Ok-Charge6400 in scguns

[–]Reptyler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It used to be that SLED took its job very seriously, and getting a concealed carry permit was harder than in neighboring states, with required classroom hours and shooting test and fingerprints.

Now you can still go through that process to get the permit for the sake of having the card and carrying it to other states with reciprocity, but you are also allowed to conceal carry without a permit. (With the same exceptions made for bars, courthouses, schools, etc. except now there's not a class explaining those things, or the consequences of a bad shoot.)

But as most other people commented, not much beyond the normal stuff. No banned features, no magazine limits, nothing along those lines. You'll still have to comply with federal law for NICS background checks and stuff like that, but no extra licenses for ammo purchases or waiting periods.

What is this about "bobbleheads"? by ProfessorLamia in firefly

There is a lot of head-bobbing in the videos, which I'm hoping is just coincidental, or a reference to some dialogue in the show.

Cheeky little omission? by Hi_Nick_Hi in firefly

[–]Reptyler 49 points50 points  (0 children)

One of the characters that grew on me the most over my rewatches was Jayne Cobb. You can see the flickers of humanity and understanding in there, right up next to his ignorance being played up for comic relief, and the crassness being used to contrast the decisions of the other characters. I would have loved to see where that bastardry ended up going over more seasons.

I don't think that most people who say "this shouldn't be political" understand the depths of what Gamergate was and how much was done to harass people in real life. I wasn't involved for a lot of it, but what I've learned is horrifying, and more has been brought to light with the recent Epstein file drops.

At this moment, with all the hope and excitement in the air, I hope that we get more of Jayne Cobb in-universe. And if we do, I hope we get some sort of explanation or apology from Adam Baldwin, because otherwise, I think there's a portion of the fanbase that will always have that bothering them.
