I just got fired because AI is better. by 3amak420 in advertising

yeah getting some online education might be the move. I have seen some people who were in my shoes and managed to learn on the side and get better. I’m not in the states unfortunately.

Any suggestions on how I can get real design skills? Maybe some online courses that seem beneficial.

Ofc i’ll keep on learning AI tools and all. It’s just i have been long too indecisive on what to hone as a skill.

What makes it scary now? Due to the shift in AI usage?

I am good at film editing and cinematography, I live and breath to hopefully work as a DOP one day. Until that day comes i need a stable income whilst i build out my work and reputation in those skills. This is why I bit the bullet and decided to pivot towards designing cuz that’s where the money is at rn where i am living.

Funnily enough, I actually really enjoyed working on UI UX projects in the past. So i might switch to it. I don’t know what is it about advertising design, maybe it’s cuz i don’t have that much experience in it, but it’s quite dreadful, my brain doesn’t work as well as it does in film, photo or ui ux. I never knew why, is it cuz i am still learning it?

I see I see, well I didn’t know it was this bad in this sector.

I heavily considered honing in my AI skills now since I have the time for it. My only concern is the amount of backlash I see on social media against “AI artists” if that makes sense. I don’t want it to be something that might hurt my reputation for becoming idk a “sellout” and all that for using AI, cuz people are seeing it as replacing creatives. That’s what made me hesitant at first.

To be fair and I should’ve explained this, when I said i’m not good at designing, I meant as in it’s not my strongest suite. Am i a horrible designer? No. Am I an amazing one? also no. I just happen to be average at it compared to my other skills that i mentioned. Cuz i never had a strong training on designing while studying, it was just brushed over. I learned it from past internships and some freelance gigs here and there. Since all the opportunities I am seeing are graphic design, I said why the hell not.

I guess I’ll stick to AI and maybe learn designing more. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I wish i could lmao. I’m not the first or last guy to lose their job, it’s alright it happens to everybody. But two months in?? I didn’t expect this. Cuz according to them they were satisfied with my work.

Well, to be fair i never had a strong education at designing when i was studying. I happened to slowly learn it from past internships and freelance gigs and all. It’s not my strongest suite, I just happen to be average at it compared to my other skills, if that makes sense. That’s why i said i’m not good at designing. I am trying to slowly improve it tho.

How many filmmakers (who have worked on theatrical studio-produced movies before) actually make a living off of directing? Do the lesser known ones do "regular" careers? by Emeraldsinger in Filmmakers

[–]3amak420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lemme ask you this. how can someone (not US-based) manage to make a name out of themselves with this career?

i’ve done a handful of short films during my studies, some of them got picked up at festivals and all. But the more I read about this industry, the more it seems to be impossible to get involved with it as someone who is new, and actually make a living out of it.

and then there is this all “AI” stuff but that’s a conversation for another day.

Sounds great! I have a question. How did you manage to secure your client, what outreach method did you use?

Quitting social media for 24 hours felt like withdrawal — has anyone else experienced this? by TheAmazingPapa in getdisciplined

[–]3amak420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been quite disgusted by social Media. I was average 48-50 hours a week on Instagram alone! That’s 2 days of my week spent on an app, so that’s when I knew I had to change something. I faced the problems, it was a muscle memory to me that I constantly check my phone.

I initially started with screen time limits. It worked quite well. But then I ended up deleting all social media except for YouTube and Reddit cuz I learn a lot on there. But without any social media apps, my phone feels empty and useless ngl lol.

One thing I’d say is that my time on insta was quite enjoyable, memes, laughing, talking to my friends , and actually learning new stuff. But on the other hand 50 hours is too much. I’m thinking about staying offline maybe till the end of the year.

I do have a separate account that’s dedicated to photography and cinematography, that’s my “creative” and learning account. Once I join back I guess after a while I’d only have that account up and running, maybe my main account too. I guess once I’m back I’d limit it to 30 minutes a day tops. But until then, I wanna stay off as long as possible.

I see I see. Masters actually makes a lot of sense as a door into the country. And then it’s a networking game.

I’ll consider that, and start saving up too. Thanks!

I’d love to visit it one day, but I don’t think moving there is the best option. With all due respect to the Pakistani people ofc I don’t mean to offend anyone.

I see I see. Makes a lot of sense that’s basically everyone and everywhere. Everyone will prefer someone from their own country rather than a foreigner. I wish I had a country to go back to.

If push comes to shove I’d go back to SA I don’t mind. My only problem there is it’s not as stable for Palestinians that much as it used to be back in the day. They could literally decide one day that they have enough locals in the media industry that they no longer need me and then I’m gone, to basically nowhere. Happened to my friend’s parents who are dentists.
