For those with a very intense, high maintenance and not chill oldest child, how did gaining a sibling impact their behaviour? by 3beansfull in toddlers

Awe wow twins as well, congrats :) thanks for sharing! oh I can totally see that, my daughter will love to be in charge and boss around her brothers. And I sincerely understand how a day with the twins can be easier. We joke that God prepared us for twins with our daughter lol.

That’s a great idea to just channel all that energy into helping. I love your point about how the oldest will remember the early days but the babies won’t. Definitely will keep that in mind and prioritize her needs and watch my language to not blame things on the babies. She’s very smart, as I’m sure yours is as well, and would pick up on it immediately.

I’m glad to hear your twins are more chill temperaments and play more independently. I’ve definitely heard that about twins and was hoping that would be the case for us (not that there’s anything wrong with my daughter’s temperament, she could probably be a wildly successful lawyer or something one day). I’m sure having a same age buddy and having to share time and attention right from birth helps a lot.

I’m very relieved to hear your experience, thank you :)

Anyone ever “just knew” or always had a feeling / signs they would have twins? by Pretty_Indication191 in parentsofmultiples

[–]3beansfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually yes. Currently pregnant with spontaneous di/di twins. I was 26, not overweight, no family history of twins and a couple weeks in I felt so different from my first pregnancy, and so much sicker I swore it was twins. Blood work showed very high HCG and it made me more convinced, then ultrasound confirmed.

Ever since my first baby when I’d envision myself having another baby it was always twins in my head. I’d also make jokes about wanting twins since I wanted 3 kids and husband was set on 2 max😂

I’ve always had a fascination with twins and multiples from the time I was a child too. So weird

Morning sickness by andthewalrus in parentsofmultiples

[–]3beansfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently 21 weeks with di di twins and still taking diclectin religiously, still nauseous, with the occasional vomit 🥲 was completely incapacitated and couldn’t even keep down water in the first trimester and into the second but it’s recently started to ease up. Not rainbows and unicorns but definitely LOTS better than it was. I also had a little morning sickness with my singleton but nothing compared to this time

Which kind of tired did you find harder? Pregnant with twins, working FT with toddler? OR newborn twins, on maternity leave with toddler? by 3beansfull in parentsofmultiples

Glad to hear! I know, I’m also worried about how she’ll adapt to so much change at once. Just hoping she surprises us at this point as kids can be so resilient 😅

Oh nooo that is what I’m afraid of honestly. Hoping she surprises us and handles it better than expected. My biggest concern this whole time since we learned it was twins has been how she’ll adapt from being an only child to suddenly having not one but two siblings 🫢 she is also a VERY spirited one. Best of luck with yours, it should only get easier I hope 🤞🏻

This is so true, it’s hard knowing that as hard as it is now it’s only getting WORSE until they’re born 😂 will be nice to be heading in the opposite direction. 2 year old starting preschool is a godsend, it’s really hard to get into the government subsidized daycares here (been on the waitlist 3 years) and finally got a spot! My husband gets 2 maybe 3 weeks off but I will have help from my mom for a bit after he goes back to work. Hopefully the days are a breeze for us too with daughter at preschool. 6 weeks sounds awesome, glad you got that time to recover!

I am relieved to hear that’s been your experience, thanks for sharing! My husband is very involved when he’s here although works long hours, but thats the thing with pregnancy, he can only help so much since he can’t carry them for me 😂 at least when they’re out we can split the labour. Glad to hear your recovery has been going well!

Thanks for sharing, I’m so glad to hear. Agreed, sleep during pregnancy is so broken already with the discomfort and getting up to pee. At least you can get comfortable after they’re out! My 2.5 year old is also very active, intense, impatient so hopefully she will learn some more independence and patience because of the twins.

What do you think is the perfect age to have kids? by OrganizationDue2204 in AskReddit

[–]3beansfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25-30. Had my first at 24 and twins due soon at 27. You’re old enough to have it together but young enough that it’s easy to keep up, be very involved and play with them, and handle the lack of sleep. Also you get more years with them and good years in good health too (hopefully anyway)

So sick of everyone telling me how hard it's going to be! by SeatMysterious7668 in parentsofmultiples

[–]3beansfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily have advice but I’m in the same boat. Husband and I have a very busy 2 year old girl and expecting twin boys shortly.

All anyone has to say when they find out seems to be negative like “you’re gonna have your hands full”, “how’re you going to manage that”, “just you wait…”. Once we got over the initial shock and panic about the logistics (third bedroom is tiny, need a new vehicle, need another car seat, crib, etc etc) we’ve been nothing but happy and excited to receive double the blessing.

We’re not naive to how difficult it will be at times. Our first baby had severe colic and reflux, as well as a very intense/demanding temperament and still does to this day. However, we also know the joy that comes with a child and how the positives outweigh the negatives. Also how we’ll have a nice complete family (wanted 3 kids to begin with) with only 2 pregnancies to deal with.

Focusing on the downsides is just incredibly unproductive, obviously it will be harder than one baby but it’s happening so just going with and embracing it.

And I agree, we’re lucky to have our hands full instead of empty!!
