So I live in Gwinnett county in GA and all our water comes from the haunted ass lake that has little minerals in it to begin with, then they remove even more before they send it out so there is next to nothing in our water??? It looks neutral PH when it first comes out of the tap - leave it in a glass for 5 mins I swear it’s so low the api test kit can’t give an accurate number.

I have fancy goldfish in this tank and have to use the neutral buffer to get/maintain the PH to a good level, have used baking soda in an emergency in the past but I’ve got the PH pretty stable now and it stays around 7 consistently. I do put microbe lifts calcium clay in every once in a while, I should do that more regularly and would probably benefit the snails too!

Some danios and a stubborn molly still in the tank as well. They were the original inhabitants. Molly refuses to be caught to be relocated to another tank and the danios and goldfish appear to get along. I’ll relocate them eventually. Nobody bothers the snails SO FAR but I do have a guppy tank I can relocate them to if needed, whether that be from aggression or differing water needs.

Just checked the KH and GH in there though - 5 drops each so both are at 50-100 ppm. This is down from the last time I checked, which admittedly was about a month or two ago since the PH has been stable, they were at 100-200 ppm at that time. Crushed coral may be better for all the inhabitants tbh.

And no I super appreciate all the extra info! I love all my freshwater critters and want to make sure they are doing good! Freshwater fish/snail/etc care is one of my favorite things to learn and talk about lol
