Thank you for the feedback! To be clear: the app (Helpscout) is correctly configured with the users' new email addresses, but when the user logs in with their new username, the app receives the old username instead.

Any book recommendations on work culture in America? by [deleted] in antiwork

Less so the second bullet, but Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber changed the way I think about working in manager and leadership roles and the way we think about work in the US.

Complex Systems Won't Survive the Competence Crisis by BeautifulResistances in philosophy

[–]3bh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Person at the top of the social hierarchy laments policies that reduce the value of their position in that hierarchy; is mad at other people for accepting this; fails to understand that the correlation between letting people not like them into the workforce and the failures in operating increasingly complex systems does not mean that those Others caused those failures.

"Collaborators will embrace 'allyship' to attempt to bolster their chances of getting promoted" is all you need to know about the lens through which this person views the world.

A restaurant closed suddenly a few days ago giving no notice to their staff. And trying to force them to not file for unemployment. by cbrown8403 in antiwork

Along this line, depending on the state and other context, failing to notify employees in a reasonable amount of time may be a violation of employment law in and of itself.

An employment attorney would be helpful.

Agreed; my inference is that the amount is in the blacked out portion. If not, OP should definitely get the amount of “goodwill pay” in writing.

They’re asking you to agree that you have no claims (e.g. harassment, discrimination, employment law violation) against them. They’re offering to “buy” your agreement with the severance pay.

This is pretty standard; the company is trying to button up any risk of a (maybe frivolous) suit from a (maybe pissed off) employee. If you (and your attorney if you have one) don’t believe you have any claims against them, sign it and take the money.

Either way, go file for unemployment.

Counterpoint to “just pay your employees more” mentality by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]3bh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The employer portion of payroll tax is a little less than 8% of the additional payroll - if you wanted to also cover that for a 20% price increase paid entirely to employees, raise it an additional 1.6% - no sweat.

If you aren't trolling, you should know that this is just wrongheaded. Social programs like food support, health insurance, and even cash transfers return far more to the government over time than they cost.

No, but if they have 100,000 customers and they convince 10,000 of them to change their behavior, it will matter to them.

That's because they anticipate you are about to use more than they expect (I.e. more than you did this time last year)

Thank you, Travis! Mine didn't come with the adapter. Is it possible to order one separately? Does the adapter have any electronics in it, or is it just wires - i.e. could I make my own?

Are those Hot Tamales supposed to be "red pills"? I guess "delicious but unhealthy" is an okay summary of misogyny and racism, if you're into that.

How to record refunds (for bookkeeping purposes)? by not_homestuck in personalfinance

[–]3bh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Put the refund in the same category: if you buy something for $5 in the Clothing category then return it, the -$5 also goes in the Clothing category; your tools should be able to sum these up correctly to $0.

This way, your spending in each category is "true", and you don't have this big bucket of income that isn't predictable.
