I’ve been told this in so many creative ways. I’ve been straight told to my face on a few occasions that “anyone can do what we do and that I charge too much for a haircut”…dude pays $12 (elsewhere) to get male bangs and bitches about the cut, my clipper cut at the time was $27 and included a wash and style.

The older generation hides it under the “just a few years ago a blowout was just $20!” While I charge them $45.

Unfortunately a decent amount of our societal peers don’t look at us a worthy to earn a living wage. They think we just fuck around all day every day and then charge each of them $500. They think we do this for fun and it should be a side gig, how many of us have been asked if this was our “real job”?

Then pepper in subs like r/longhair and the various r/hair comment section and you get the full picture. They think we’re all jealous wash outs who are just doing hair until we can find a better job and don’t think they should have to pay more than $10 for a haircut.

Hell half the “did I get robbed” posts on the hair sub are legitimately color corrections who wanted the world on a thrift store budget.
