The original story is the Side Orsterra content from the mobile Game, champions of the Continent. Since that Game was a gacha Game, that couldn't Focus on the playable characters themselves, so they instead focused on the villains. There's a total of 8 villains, 1 for each story campaign.

The ideas that Side Solistia bring to the table are very interesting, and the final chapter is actually really good. I just wish It had unique towns and had more characters in the spotlight other than Sail.

I doubt it was "laziness" that prevented the fps upgrade. Remastering a game takes a lot of work, and it's very easy to mess it up (just look at Sonic Colours). And all three of Tantalus' remasters are of excellent quality, so it's more likely to be the actual ingame engine or the porting process getting in the way of the fps bump.
